OOC Discussion Thread

I just had a quick question about timeline things. I noticed that it looks like there's currently war threads going on, but under this season's events it looks like the final battle for the season has occurred. If I were to start posting in Nashaki, would denizens consider the war to be over for now?

Edit: Received this response from Basilisk, because I had PMed a few days ago before I found this topic :)

"The war isn't over, no. In fact, if there's enough interest, and enough people, there'll be another big battle towards the end of this season. Right now though, it's sort of quieted down due to the World Event and the upcoming colder Seasons IC. Even in a desert, people just don't campaign in the winter."

[Nashaki] OOC Discussion Thread

Greetings!

I am currently using two NPC groups in my threads, and future plot plans. I wanted to speak more about them here. They can be as small as you prefer, or as large as you prefer. I will also be pming Basilisk about my post here to get their input, approval or any adjustments they would like to make.

The Makers

The first concept is a society known as the Makers. A group of craftsmen, wealthy merchants, their guards, some healers and a few working class people who managed to get in, perhaps a council member or three with approval. Originally primarily a human group, the Qi'ora that did join have outlived the humans that founded the group, and are now mostly in control. As such, while it is a group that looks after its own interests first and foremost, its interests are usually the cities interest, and so it is tolerated by the council. Not least of which because a few of the council pull the strings of the Makers at higher levels. There is sometimes friction with the council if they overstep their bounds, but all in all the Makers maintain healing sites for the poor, through to a crafting academy for the wealthy, and are tolerated as a result. If anyone dislikes the Makers, it would be jealous traders, who rightly feel their members can out compete them at times, council members who dislike secretive societies and those few who cannot be bribed, or raiders who want their mining sites and trade caravans for themselves.

The ones that want to appear noticed, wear bronze colored clothing to identify themselves, mixed in with regular desert attire. It is known the group takes a dim view of others wearing bronze in the city.

They are rumored to have singers who can charm animals with their voice, but this is surely a myth.

Suggested Numbers 250 *I have no idea on Nashaki's population levels, so this is a guess.
Almost all the makers exist in Nashaki but some agents are reputedly to be working in nearby cities in disguise.

The Aurora

A significantly less tolerated group within the cities limits, they do however have seemingly endless pockets for bribes. Rumored to have links to the eternal empire, among other regions, this makes them much more of an unknown in local politics. Assuredly they are usually not welcome interfering in Nashaki affairs and detained, till a suitable bribe or compensation is made. The ones who want to be visible, are dressed entirely in black for the most part, with silver markings along the armor, though their rulers are reputedly seen in red formerly but rarely by anyone, or known to anyone but a few. The Makers and The Aurora really do not get along, and much of the problems anyone has with either group come from this simple fact. It is very, very rare anyone will see the two groups fight or cause trouble in the open, but behind closed doors things can and do happen between them, subtly. Outside of Nashaki, raiders hitting imperial interests, may well see the Aurora as the perfect target, not that any formal alliance between the Aurora and the Eternal Empire ever has or will exist.

Suggested Numbers 600 in total, with 50 in Nashaki.
Mostly located in the Eternal Empire, with some scattered alcoves wherever plots need an antagonist, such as Nashaki.

They are rumored to consort with the shadows themselves, but this is surely a myth.
They are rumored to like, very, long term contracts.

I will do a full write up, with NPCs, if these groups get the official go ahead. If not i'll limit them as smaller groups to my sub plots as I need them, if that sounds alright.

[Nashaki] OOC Discussion Thread

Hey all, putting a proposed Caste System for slaves up to see what you think. Enforced by the tower of flesh if you like the idea Basilisk? If not no worries, not critical for a plot or anything, it just came up in a thread I was writing about the Tower of Flesh and how they maintain order.

1) Indentured Servants – Life or Arc Spanning Contracts, otherwise having all the rights of free men except being able to leave before the contract is up. Any crime against them is considered a full crime. Contracts usually include the estimated fee anyone damaging the servant, or the servant running off, will have to pay if they cannot perform it. All life or long contracts are sealed by the Tower of Flesh's approval.

2) Professional Slaves – Registered and Accounted for. For a small fee a slave can be made a professional slave. If a professional slave is harmed it is almost as serious as harming a freeman and can carry a criminal sentence in the same manner, though this is usually slightly reduce it isn’t by much. The fine to compensate the owner for his property is never reduced. These slaves will sometimes be managing other slaves for their owners, and are generally fully trained and well behaved. Most middle and certainly upper class Nashaki residents opt to give their slaves professional status.

3) Registered Slaves – If you register your Slave with the Tower of Flesh any harm coming to them is expected to be paid in full to you by the offending party. Harming registered slaves is looked down upon and usually carries light criminal penalties; these penalties are not severe to encourage people to pay the extra fee for professional status; often times the tower of flesh will allow the injured party to take a slave or item directly from the offender to mitigate the insult. Those with less coin sometimes just choose to register their slaves to give them financial security.

4) Unregistered Slaves – Usually untrained and/or belonging to strangers, it is expected people pay their owners for any damage done to their property but this isn’t always honoured. In the case of killing or maiming an unregistered slave usually some penalty will be enforced to maintain public order, but a beating for example is often going to be ignored.
