Evil, encountered

The Gauthrel Plains reach from the coasts of western Idalos to the very edge of Ne'haer before meeting the forests surrounding Hiladrith. The Fields of Gauthrel can be a dangerous place, one that is home to the most deadliest of creatures. It holds many secrets in the history of the land and may offer rewards to those who choose to journey out into the wild plains. It is best not to wander out alone in these fields. Even caravans have been known to go missing.

That Dying Sky

Image
48th of Ymiden, Arc 717

Last night, he received a letter. It came swiftly, a dead crow knocking at his window with its beak, eyes nearly falling out of its socket. In its fragile, dead talons, it dropped a roll of parchment with a black seal in the shape of a symbol - one he knew to be the symbol of the Lich, disfigured and macabre in appearance. He already knew who it was.

Alistair,

Your mother is here, in these lands. I felt you here, you know. I felt you wandering so far away. Why did you not tell me that you were to arrive here?

No matter, I am a forgiving mother. I only ask a singular request of you and that... man of yours. I've heard tales of how you brought him into our strongholds, without even a blindfold to cover his eyes. You trust him a great deal, don't you?

If so, then he shall be obliged to help in this matter, and I must insist. I cannot wait for you to come help me of your own will, as you never often do these days. Instead, you touch lands where I hold no power... you drink and dine with the vileness of outer society...

I will have you see, tomorrow, what every man is when you bring out the falsehood from beneath him. You will help me in this matter, and you will see. The Coven is your family, not this entity who uses your body like a toy. You will see. Come to Shirnrad, south of the city of the Sacred Father. Come at first light.

E.

The mage exhaled. It was never wise to defy the mother's will - not when she was capable of finding him wherever he was. He was marked by her, almost as he was by Syroa, but with whispers that had drawn her to him and near exactly where he was. She always knew. She could always hunt him, always kill him, always use that sense to merely vanquish him as he slept. He had become an immensely powerful mage, greater than any other in the Coven. He was not far from surpassing Ellasin as he was now, and when he'd managed to acquire the right artifacts and advantages, that gap would surely close. She wasn't a physical fighter like he was - he could tire her out.

The problem was... she had the advantage of the night, of the sleepless, of the ancient and Immortal. For not a single moment was she truly vulnerable as he was, and the vulnerability he held now was what allowed her to continue to use him as she did.

The moment he no longer lived beneath her thumb, the moment he escaped the paralysis of that advantage of hers, he would be eradicated as a precautionary measure. This was a fight that he could not win.

"Fridgar," he called to the man after rising from his moment of thinking, shaking his lover and attempting to awaken him to the dawn's light. "Fridgar, we need to go... to Shirnrad, it's called. There's something we need to do; I can't do it by myself."

Fridgar stood at the prow of the ship, leading the whole armada from his stand point. Many of his men had questioned why the great pirate lord didn't drive his own ship, Fridgar threw those people overboard. Among him were only the finest and most loyal of his crew. Whenever they spotted another ship, they'd rush it, surround and board. The crew would be granted a choice after the beheading of their captain; join Fridgar or join the sharks. Most people joined Fridgar.

Following that, they'd tear down their old sails and raise new ones. A black canvas with the skull and crossed bones of a bear. Did he trust these men? No, of course not. Which is why he tied every ship to a long rope and wrapped it around his fingers; one tug would see them brought back to him! Why was he gathering so many ships? He was to face the kraken, of course. He needed all the men and vessels he could get.

Between now and then were lots of parties, feasts and love making to his beloved and first mate, Alistair.
Several times during his slumber, Fridgar had whimpered and moaned Alistair's name. This was accompanied by the light bucking of his hips, sleep humping. The great pirate lord understood that testosterone was key to winning fights and it was always rampant after a good bedding! His beloved rose made him feel invincible, like nothing could stop him. As such, he'd vowed to punch the kraken to death. Nothing had stopped him before, how could it?

Finally, on a dark and cold night, the kraken rose from the depths, flailing its massive tendrils and screeching obnoxiously, Fridgar feared no such creature. But his men did, for sure. he felt the ropes tugging at his fingers as the men he commanded refused to go any further. The first to put strain on the rope would be lifted from his finger and swiftly thrown into the kraken, shattering on impact. Yes, he'd just thrown a ship at the beast, but it didn't scratch the creature. This would be a tough fight indeed!

Fridgar would grow mighty wings of a leathery membrane before taking to the sky and fast approaching the kraken. Landing atop the kraken granted him two options; punch it or flee. He strafed as the tendrils attempted to bat him away, untouchable, he was. One punch, buried into the head of the beast saw that the fabric of reality itself tore around the kraken before splitting apart in a glorious shattering impact. He was the god of punching, after all. His mission complete, he took flight to catch his lover as he swooned.
"Ali... stair..." he wrapped his arms around the waist of his beloved and pulled lightly, edging the man deeper into bed with him. Even as Alistair started shaking him, he showed no signs of rousing.

Only then did the kraken roar with defeat as it plunged into the depths, the whole armada watched the glory of their unstoppable teamwork as the beast sank into the depths, green light filled its wound. Fridgar stared, unsure. When realisation took its hold, Fridgar grabbed for his mate and ran, only no one was there when he looked. His armada, they were gone too. The ropes around his fingers? Gone. His ship? Ruined, ablaze. The ear-breaking roar sounded once more, rippling the oceans and brightening the flames of his ship.

An enormous black claw would grip the edges of the kraken's wound from within the tear of reality. Another gave the creature within the leverage it needed to escape. Its silhouette head emerged from the tear, Fridgar saw it for who it was immediately; the beast of green fire from the fracture. Its roar sounded akin to the exploding star he'd once laid eyes upon during his initiation. In a single powerful thrust, it ripped its whole body from the tear and caught fire again, turning to green flames. Ina flap of its wings, it caught itself. It nearly capsized the whole ship with the disturbance it brought to the water.

Fridgar clung for dear life while the creature charged some sort of attack from its maw, glowing with brilliant white light. In an instant, a massive ray of energy blasted through to his left and steamed the ocean, instantly boiling it. The whole ocean began to bubble and boil before the beam swept across with a turn of the creature's head.
Meanwhile, Fridgar whimpered and rolled, tossing and turning. His paw would twitch and spasm as though it had a mind of its own, running in a singular rotation over and over; he was running.

Very shortly after, he awoke. His body was still and his eyes were calm. A turn of his head laid his mismatched eyes upon his beloved, Alistair. "Alistair? Is everything alright?" he asked with uncertainty, though he was apparently completely awake. "I had the strangest dream, I was a pirate punching god, I think" he could scarcely remember.

A grunt would follow his exertion as he sat himself up. "...Being a pirate is boring."

When Fridgar awoken, finally, Alistair's eyes immediately lit up. "My love," he called him, moving forward to plant a kiss on his lips. "Good morning, my love; I'm sorry for being such a nag." He listened to the man's questions, and then shook his head. "No," he responded. But he would wait for the Lotharro to finish speaking before he fully explained.

A pirate punching God? he inquired, head tilting before he began to lightly laugh. Of course he was a pirate punching God. "You're already a punching God, Fridgar," he spoke, rolling onto his mate. Then, he leaned in, whispering into his mate's ears. "And the God of lovemaking," he said, reaching for the man's...

"But," he added, throwing himself off the bed and landing rather acrobatically on his two naked feet. "To answer your earlier question, not everything is alright. To be entirely honest, my darling, I'm very angry. Look," he said, tossing the man the letter he'd received the trial before. Giving him some time to read over it, the mage's fingers pressed his brows together and massaged at his temples. He was clearly consumed by stress. "Ellasin Dathlande. Do you know who she is? I believe I told you about her before, when we first met. I explained to you that I'd been in a similar situation as you were with Rey'na... being used, by a similarly raven haired woman. Only mine's the most powerful mage in the world. Not so easy to just walk away from that."

He sighed. That wasn't all, either.

"She knows where I am, Fridgar. Always. You know the sense we have for one another? She has it for me, and I for her. At any moment, if she decides she's tired of me or doesn't trust me or thinks I'm her enemy, she will come to me in my sleep and slaughter me. Sure, opening a portal is loud, but she doesn't have to open it where I can hear it. She could port herself somewhere close, send some trained assassin thrall after me - you won't always be there, and I can't always be secure. I need... to convince her that I'm still loyal. At least until I can kill her." Which wasn't too far off, he imagined, but he wanted to be safe rather than sorry. Perhaps he was vastly underestimating her -- many had before him. It was difficult to know.

Ellasin was not powerful merely by raw strength, but by her politics, her scheming, her deception. Alistair was similarly skilled in these areas, but did not have a convincing political network within the Coven. They were a cult -- loyal to her, not him. He was still at a huge disadvantage. There was no... way. Not right now.

"She wants me to come do something for her, and you too. We must oblige; I cannot act with disloyalty. She is the Necromantress; she is Sera ba Randil. All mages must bow to her."

Confused eyes loooked to Alistair before turning himself around with the sheets over his legs to look at Alistair, devoting his full attention to his mate. "What do you mean No? What's happened?" He asked, concern welling in his voice. When Alistair threw himself gracefully from the bed and revealed that he was angry, Fridgar couldn't help but furrow one of his eyebrows. What did he mean? Angry at who? What? Fridgar turned and threw himself from the bed with the grace of an eagle... riding a Trachadon. With a heavy thud, Fridgar's bare feet connected to the floor of their bedroom.

It was warm enough outside that Fridgar barely noticed he was standing in the nude, even if he did, he might have been showing off what Alistair could have had if he'd decided to act instead of tease. Alas, this was how things had turned out instead of steamy lovemaking in the unmade, warm, comfy bedding. Fridgar brushed his hair back with his paws before tying it into his usual ponytail with the aid of his string. He didn't try to hide himself through the process, more showing his body to the noble with the hope that he would be looking.

Regardless, his love went on to explain and Fridgar read the note he was tossed. Even six arcs down the line, he struggled to read proper common. It took him longer than your average human child to read, but he got there in the end - or most of it, at least. "So, some cunt is telling you to go help him with some stuff? Tell him to piss off," Fridgar shared his wisdom. Ellasin, He'd heard the name before, "Your ex? And mentor? That crazy necromancer?" He asked, confused. "Yeah, I remember," how could he forget? The dance he shared with Alistair that night made going to Andaris dungeons worth every trill. He would never forget that night for good and bad reasons alike.

She will come to me in my sleep and slaughter me, Like fuck will she. "She'll come to you in your sleep and I'll knock her head off." Fridgar growled, instinct claiming his thoughts while his paws clenched in a furiously tight grip. He soon released it, but still. To think that some skank from across the globe could make his mate feel unsafe pissed him off, this was evident in his sudden change in posture, demeanour, expression and tone.

He would stand up straight and cross his arms. "Me? She knows about me? Then she oughta know that threatening you is a bad idea," Fridgar stood, adamant. She is Sera ba Randil, all mages must bow to her... "She's pulp if she thinks I bow to anyone." Fridgar shook his head. "If she's really that powerful, can’t we take her on together? You're like, the second strongest mage on Idalos if not the first. Together we can take her, I know it."

Fridgar started getting dressed, slipping on his chiffon undergarments quickly, he'd apparently lost the desire to tease with blood on his mind. The rest of his clothing followed and he neatly plucked his leather jacket from a hanger in the corner of the room, fancy indeed. "If you tell me to bow before her, then for your sake I will. But don't make me if there's a good chance we can kill her and be done with it all."

He had to admit, his eyes certainly wandered as Fridgar stood, undressed, the sun coming in through the window and shining upon his perfect form. The man knew how to tempt him. Alistair had to look away in order to stave off the many ideas that were circulating within his thoughts. None of them were innocent.

So, some cunt is... the man started, and Alistair interrupted him, holding up his hand and shaking his head. "No, not some cunt," he replied. "THE cunt. Ellasin is... look, if you looked up the etymology of the word cunt, Ellasin was probably involved in its creation." He felt a bit foul-mouthed, saying the forsaken word so many times, but he had to emphasize himself. She wasn't just a bitch, she was queen bitch. Of... bitchenvale. Skankyton. Slagmere!

"My what?" he clarified. While he was off thinking of cities that Ellasin would be the mayor of, Fridgar had gone and said something crazy. "My ex? Like ex partner? WHAT?" he asked. "No, Fridgar. No. Just - n-n-n-no. Me and her? She's almost two hundred years old! She probably has the texture of a rotting liver down there! And most of all - I'm gay! Homosexual! Born and bred, emphasis on the bred part after you came into the picture, and -- definitely not attracted to the parasol wielding trollops of the world!"

He took a breath, allowing himself to calm. Fridgar had never gotten such a reaction out of him. At least if you excluded their nightly activities, and such reactions were rarely so wordy. He had never been so offended by an accusation!

"Our house is literally named the House of Buggery. By the Seven," he whispered under his breath, shaking his head. He was beet red, and very embarrassed. Mostly because of the visual that popped into his head shortly after the words - it wasn't far from necrophilia to bed a Lich. That was just wrong. And putrid.

AND TERRIBLE!

"Fridgar, you won't be able to knock her head off," he said, shaking his head. He'd calmed down. "Besides, she'll come when she knows you're not there. We're not always together, you know that. We spend days sleeping alone, off in different parts of the world. The one night you and I are sleeping on different beds, will be the last night I ever dream. Ellasin will make sure of that." It was true. Fridgar had to accept that truth.

And then came another idea. Tag teaming her. The mage shook his head again.

"We can't beat her. Maybe I'm one of the strongest mages around, maybe I'm not, I don't know. But the gap between me and her, and her and everyone else for that matter, is immense. She is like nothing you'll ever see. If we fought her now, we would die, horrifically. Even if we won, she would probably find a way to survive. She's a Rupturer, and a Lich. I doubt you know anything about Liches -- you don't want to. We can't kill her, so you must bow. Not literally, but act servile. Agree with her, follow her will. I know you hate kneeling, but..." he looked away, out to the trees, towards the house standing beside him. Laying against the window sill, he sighed.

"To be completely blunt, this is not about you. It's about her control over me. If you jeopardize this and are designated as her enemy, I will die. There is not a single doubt in my mind of that fact. How you want to handle that reality is up to you, but I would ask that you don't place me into a position where I have to surrender my life as a result of your unwillingness to follow a witch's commands. I will, but don't make me do it." He frowned. Perhaps he was being unpleasant, or unloving. He didn't know. Alistair dearly loved Fridgar, and he felt that love for him now, pumping through with his blood. Still, the man could be a chaotic element, and some matters required an immense amount of elegance and caution.

He was stressed. More than anything, he was stressed, and in need of a hug. He gave the man a quiet, but sad look, beckoning him through the eyes - asking for his embrace. He didn't know what would happen. Would Ellasin be convinced? Would she decide Alistair was not worth the risk?

Every moment was life or death with her. The stronger he got, the more dangerous his service became.

The Lothar threw his hands up immediately, he did not mean to offend Alistair in the remarks about Ellasin being his ex-lover. Somehow, Fridgar had made that mistake? "I'm sorry, my rose!" he grinned, looking away, "Please forgive me!" This is true, how could he mistake Alistair, so fond of buggery, for once having a girlfriend? It just wasn't in his nature to enjoy the woman's form. Only the more masculine side of any race could satisfy his beloved's undying thirst, he just happened to be the most masculine of all races.

Even so, the more serious end of the conversation followed. Fridgar might have annoyed his partner, might have not. It was difficult to tell. "She's got Necromancy and Rupturing, right? What's her third domain? Aborration?" By Ilaren, he hoped not. Only once had Fridgar had to deal with the likes of those power-hungry maniacs. That was back in Saun when he and Avrae were trapped in the burning bar, trials before their initiation. Suffice to say, he did not want to deal with one again, though he was stronger.

"No, I don't know shit about Liches-" he spoke, only to get interrupted following more of his mate's rant. When he paused, Fridgar could have sworn he felt a distinct coldness in his chest. His expression was otherwise blank, save for the irritation in his eye. To be blunt... ...Ouch. That one hurt, even spurred on some of his fury. For a trill, he wanted to react with nothing but anger and bombard the noble with his hurt feelings. But for the sake of caring about how his other half felt, he restrained himself.

Was he being selfish? Perhaps. "Of course I wouldn't do that.." his pain was difficult to hide. Fridgar had improved so much over the past seasons, yet somehow, his beloved still thought him the mindless animal that would put everything on the line over his pride? No, of course not. He just hadn't understood the situation. "Okay, so just act like she owns us then?" Fridgar grit his teeth, clenching his jaw tightly. The very thought pissed him off beyond words. he'd never seen his beloved so ready to give up and submit to anything before, if she were truly as strong as Alistair had said, attacking her right now might have been a bad idea, no matter how many dozens of people he could slaughter without using a drop of ether.

"Well, let’s get going then. We don't want to keep cunt breath waiting, do we?" Fridgar stretched, he'd get over the excessive bound of emotion eventually, but his anger for the Ellasin bitch would linger, even if he'd never met her. She was his enemy if she thought she owned either of them and until the trial came that he could rip her heart out through her throat, he would imagine her dying screams to keep him going. When at last he'd come to terms with how his feelings on the situation didn't matter, he disregarded Alistair's beckoning. Life and death was not the time for cuddles, he wasn't in the mood. All he wanted was Lich blood, if Liches even had blood.

When the pair were ready, he would step through into Alistair's portal, a land that he'd not been to before.

Fun little thread - I enjoyed it! I made a change to Fridgar's psychology knowledge because it was a personal knowledge about Ali - which I also added. Also, Ali, as a marked of Syroa, falling in or pursuing love as you and Fridgar are is an auto -7 on the devotion front. Syroa doesn't like it!
