Fridgar nodded, sarcasm heavy in his ursine face. "I wouldn't have asked if I didn't want you to," he explained, baring his yellowed teeth in an attempted smile. Maybe he was pushing his luck with this new girl? Nah, another Lothar wouldn't be nearly so merciful. He was doing her a favour in toughening her up the perils of the land... Right? She was a bit of a wimp; some toughening couldn't hurt. As for the ass comment... well. Fridbear choked, coughing in a form that he didn't even know was even capable of coughing.
He then shook his head in realisation, she was human; where she came from, men married women all the time. Straight relationships were the ruling majority, gay couples never really showed their faces. Kayleigh was in for a shock when she realised that she was in a land of homosexuals. "Uhh, damn. I'll just have to avert my bear eyes!" he laughed nervously. Was that an acceptable thing to say? It was surely better 'Sorry, not interested', right? Even so, he couldn't help but feel awkward. He'd just have to explain later that he's betrothed to a man. It sucked that he had to break Kayleigh's heart, but it had to be done.
Regardless, she scaled him and pulled painfully at his fur as she went. Why did he think that was a good idea? The full weight of a person supported by just a few strands of hair? On a few occasions, it felt as though she was going to accidentally skin him. Thankfully, bears aren't capable of crying. "Hey Kayleigh, You probably don't, but... Do you have any interest in fighting?" The bear would ask as she finally reached his shoulders. "Because I've noticed that you're kind of... helpless," the bear spoke, quieting the tone of his echo toward the end. "If you like, I can train you some time. There's nothing wrong with some skill in combat out here, it'll probably save your life and all."
Then, the girl started laughing, had he said something funny? He must have said something hilarious because she was laughing hard. "Haha... What's so funny?" he asked, nervous. Did he accidentally break her? Was she going insane? Sure, the Soraanar was spooky and all, but was it really that bad? You suck by the way, "Say what!?" The echo bellowed, hardly able to believe what she'd just said. She was laughing because he sucked!? What the fuck? "That's animal abuse, I'm going to have to report you to the bonde," he informed with a serious tone and a sincere nod, but was ultimately joking.
She then decided that he owed her for the traumatic experiences she'd suffered in Gauthrel, including the tongue bath she'd received. "Hey hey, if anything, I should be charging you for that tongue bath. Not everyone gets that kind of treatment you know," just people covered in delicious protein. "But fine, I guess I owe you. Whatchya want?" He managed his question just before the woman ripped the axe from the tree and began to plummet. Shit. He watched, almost helpless as she fell from twenty feet high.
With his razor-sharp reflexes, the bear utilised chasing to blink to the floor. In the space that he manipulated, he adjusted his position to be lying flat against the floor like a rug before confirming the movement. Kayleigh then landed atop his thick hide along with his axe... which ended up landing on one of his front legs by the blade. The limb severed under the raw weight of his blade and even cut into the earth a little bit. The bear didn't shriek or growl with pain, but merely looked to the wound with surprise before commenting "Shit."
Whether Kayleigh got off his back or not, he would press into his paws and stand before approaching his bag and feeling for the energy of his Fridgar totem. He locked on in just a few trills and ultimately used a basic transformation along with Chrysalis. The transformation took about sixty trills, a full bit. He'd shrink, snap and crackle, crunch and withdraw. Bones broke apart and shifted with graphic popping noises beneath his shifting flesh as hair receded and bones reorganised along with his internal organs.
When the transformation was complete, he stood a normal Lothar once more. But he was on all fours as the Redbear had been. And just as the Redbear had been, he was naked. Fridgar didn't seem to notice until after he stood with his back to Kayleigh and a rather cool breeze blew by. "Oh, shit," Fridgar commented, distraught at losing his only piece of clothing in their mad dash and escape. "Kayleigh, I need you to help me with two things. First off, don't laugh and second, use that sword when I draw attention to us."
What he meant was undefined, use her sword how? Draw attention by what? Fridgar then turned to the long grass and put his hands around his mouth before bellowing a loud "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" Noise, throwing his body into it and all. Just trills after, a strange animal poked its head from the grass. It was a stekir. It looked at them with undying anger before calling its own war cry; 'REEEEEEEEEEEEE'. Soon enough, seven of the creatures poured from the long grass and all rushed the pair. Two rushed Kayleigh while five went for the bigger piece of meat.
Fridgar blinked once more and took hold of his axe before widening his stance and raising his blade. "Happy hunting!" he wished his companion before throwing his axe from the right in a full homerun swing, decapitating one of the approaching Stekir. With the residual momentum of the axe, he turned with it and slammed his foot into the head of another, killing it instantly before bringing his axe back around and over his head, dropping it on another Stekir. Only two were left on his end in this massacre. How was Kayleigh doing?
