Argos Has Fallen

The Gauthrel Plains reach from the coasts of western Idalos to the very edge of Ne'haer before meeting the forests surrounding Hiladrith. The Fields of Gauthrel can be a dangerous place, one that is home to the most deadliest of creatures. It holds many secrets in the history of the land and may offer rewards to those who choose to journey out into the wild plains. It is best not to wander out alone in these fields. Even caravans have been known to go missing.

Argos Has Fallen

Image
80th of Ymiden, Arc 717

"Sakarum!" He yelled, seated upon the back of a great and majestic beast -- the Jor Thalla, a companion to those who fought in Thetros' name. This same creature had erected a barrier to defend the men standing in the vanguard, fired upon relentlessly by the bowmen strewn about Argos' crumbling battlements. Their walls had been weakened and winnowed by the Horde, and were readily able to be devastated upon the arrival of the rolling wallbreakers they'd amassed.

Eight thousand men stood as land infantry, composing several lines and wrapping around the edges of the city. To their sides sat four thousand cavalry, mounted upon a variety of beasts, though mainly comprised of Scython and Drexion. Behind them was a line of archers, wielding Nirnbone Longbows, numbering two thousand.

But this... was the invading army, not the conquering one. If one looked upon the walls of Argos, they would find that the battlements were not manned by a contingent force, but one near to its death -- an Albion in flight roared as it followed the winds above the city, devastating the archers atop the wall with a nigh-endless volley of zirconium grade shards. Five hundred men became fifty, and fifty became five. The remainder of the army retreated within the walls, tasked with defending the citizenry with their last breath, and slaughtering the Lotharen Horde as they burst through the walls.

But as the man upon the Sacred Lion called, the Sakarum had come. The earth trembled as the beast burrowed beneath the rocky terrain surrounding the city, before emerging from the ground and roaring with an exhale, the sound resounding for kilometers around as the men rallied and yelled at the arrival of the colossus.

Alongside it sat two men, and one woman, each with a Sacred Lion of their own. Riordan Aelothar, High King of the Lotharen Horde, Champion of Thetros, adorned with a crown of Beryllium Emerald and a shimmering Sorelian Steel plate. Beside him sat Aedan Mac Thordan, King of Mac Teagan and the man who would bring the Horde and their territories to a day of renaissance if he could. Next to him, Kala Alfweyr, daughter and only child of Fenn Jormag, who represented her Clan in the coming conquest.

The three of them turned in synergy, facing the army as the Sakarum bellowed and forced the few men remaining atop the enemy walls to flee. Riordan, first to his lonesome, spoke.

"I have no exciting speech for you, my brothers," he said, shaking his head. "You don't need my permission to seek out blood. You have a passion within all of you, given through the greatness of the Creator. That passion continues to burn in trials of peace and trials of war, through illness and fatigue, and doubt -- and I can say only this: let it traverse, freely. Kill everyone but us. Rape who you want, take their bloody heads off and steal all of the gold you can. This is not an ethical conquest, there's no such thing as that. Don't be ethical -- annihilate them."

His hand rose, and the Sakarum threw itself forward, curling into a ball and rolling across the battlefield, the earth distorting around its movements. It moved with considerable haste, and before long, the creature bashed into the damaged outer walls of the city. A massive array of cracks and degradation appeared on the surface of the wall, and at this moment, the Sakarum uncurled itself and burrowed into the ground. From below the wall, it rose from the underground, the vast structure around the city crumbling upon the vicious ascent of the beast. A gaping rupture formed, allowing passage for the advancing Horde as the beast roared and snarled at the weak contingent of painted soldiers attempting to slice at its legs from below. It burrowed once more, and as it did, Riordan howled.

"Charge!" he yelled, and with his voice came the Horde bearing down.

Argos Has Fallen

Fridar stood as land infantry among the eight thousand, the vast number of Lotharen that blocked out the sight of the ground. The Sakarum was called by another Lotharro who sat on some sort of feline, a blatant magical beast. The Lothar was excited to see what kind of war worthy monster Gauthrel had to offer, what totems would he soon have access to? He couldn't wait, for the beast at least.

Fridgar was dressed for war, wearing his loin cloth, Feldorei pelt and Feldorei skull over his head. In his hands, he carried the six-foot-long Terrendyte broad axe that Halden had gifted him. It had proved useful the last few trials, especially with the white silence. His hair and jaw line had been covered completely by the skull he wore. He didn't look like a soldier or a warrior, he looked like a savage. In complete contrast to his intentions, in fact.

Since Azzas's memories had resurfaced, Fridgar had been a lot... kinder... softer... more refined, he was becoming a sissy. Savagery was the last thing on his mind. This was war, he was here to slaughter the enemy and claim Argos for the horde. Maybe he'd claim a few prizes along the way? There wasn't anything wrong with taking a trophy or two, right? Even so, raping and mutilating... like the other Lotharen seemed to preach, he wouldn't take part in it. He would kill his enemies, he would take the city and he would destroy property, but no innocents would come to harm under his paw.

This was him trying the noble side of fighting. The fact that he hadn't brought any of his totems, save for the self totem nestled in his pony tail, meant that he was fighting honourable, too. It was all him versus all them. A test of skill and hardiness, the stronger would live while the weaker would fall. This was how it should have been, survival of the fittest. But he'd grown a soft spot in his heart for the weak.

The Sakarum moved forward, arriving amongst their ranks; a massive insect-like beast with three riders. He could tell from where he was standing that the beast's skin was so thick that a nirnbone longbow couldn't pierce it, not without specific arrow heads. It was slow though, how did they plan for it to destroy the wall? Soon after, an Albion flew over the archers and splinter bombed repeatedly, wiping out the vast majority of their men in trills. Whatever was left of them retreated into the city and hid away.

Fridgar looked over what was soon to be the battle field, uneasiness stirring in his gut. hurting innocent people just... Didn't sit well anymore. Not after everything he'd been through piled on with the re-awakening of his marriage bond with Alistair. The savage within him was just... gone... or at least diminished. His thoughts turned to the immortals, perhaps one of them would be able to help him? Alistair had tried to teach him of all their domains and beliefs. The Immortal of war was Azzas' immortal's enemy; Raskalarn. Though, she followed a lot of his newly developed beliefs. Protect the innocent, defeat the enemy... conquer... What could go wrong?

It was in that trill that Fridgar dedicated the oncoming fights to her. If he'd managed to get Ilaren's attention by screaming her name and flailing his fists in every possible direction in every tavern he could, then he might as well try the same strategy for Raskalarn, right? It was settled. And just before the Sakarum curled into a ball and propelled itself forward, smashing into the wall with incredible force. Fridgar blinked twice in the helm of bone, had that just happened in front of him? That beast was so strong, he needed one! Next thing he knew, the creature uncurled from the ball and burrowed beneath the ground before erupting through the shattered wall, creating a breach for all the horde to enter.

Amazing, such a spectacle of strength and raw power. If Fridgar could get his hands on a Sakarum totem, he'd be unstoppable. Maybe when he finished his Lurker totem he could go and find one? Who knew? Maybe this beast would perish and he'd get the opportunity to harvest its corpse? Maybe just an appendage? No, The Argosi were too weak for that, he'd have to hunt one for himself... probably...

The order to charge came, Fridgar was already prepared. Bellowing a roar of rage, his blood began to pump hard through his veins, adrenaline coursing as he took to the fields, carrying his broad axe with both hands. For a trill, he almost forgot of his new self-acclaimed nobility and honour. All that was on his mind was blood and the need to quench an unending thirst. He soon snapped back to his senses though and continued the rest of his charge without the roar.

As he burst through the breach, he wasn't even close to tired. In fact, he could still run for miles before breaking a sweat. Argosi soldiers came into view. His axe weighed heavy with desire, but he tried to convince himself that he was just battle ready. Even as he collided with the human before him, the hunger, the rage, it was all just his battle-ready state of mind...

The Humans wielded a short sword and shield, swinging for Fridgar's side. The Lotharen promptly blocked the strike with the pole of his axe before bringing it around and slamming the blunt side of the bladed end into the edge of the shield, sending the human's defence spiralling out of his control. It didn't stop the human from trying an overhead strike though, which Fridgar promptly blocked once more with his axe pole. With his axe raised overhead and ready, he bashed hard at the enemy’s sword and sent him reeling. Fridgar then spun hard at the axe handle, but not before the human could raise his shield in defence.

His axe head cut through his shield with a great deal of effort thrown into the strike, The Human's body jolted behind the shield before Fridgar found that his axe had taken on a massive weight. Turning the blade to the side slightly, he found that his axe had in fact travelled all the way through the soldier's steel shield and partially into his helmet where blood flowed freely down the steel plate of his armour. The Lothar put his foot against the corpse and pushed hard, ripping his bloodied axe from the body of his foe, though the shield came with him. As the axe dripped in a foreign soldier's blood, he knew he'd done Raskalarn well.

Watching as the rest of the horde collided with the other soldiers waiting, Fridgar removed the shield from his axe and jumped back into the battle.
