Burnt Wine
Owned and run by the Aranaz family, Burnt Wine is the secret extension of the public family business. No books are kept on this part of the business, however it is believed that the vast majority of the Aranaz wealth comes from the illicit business. The brandy they make from their fruits is sold exclusively on the Black Market, in the labyrinth below Viden. Much of the product is then sent from the city across Idalos, but enough of it remains in Viden, and it has gained enough popularity in the city that even the most public of parties will not be without the sweet brandies produced by the Aranaz family.
The facility is operated almost entirely by slaves, ones which are branded and kept under lock and key, lest they try to escape and spread the secret of the illegal family business. The Aranaz family is under no illusion that the Directorate do not know what they are doing, of course. They know that very few things happen in the city without the Directorate knowing about it. But as long as the family is sensible about its produce, and there is no rise in the death toll from climatic injuries related to alcohol consumption, the authorities are willing to turn a blind eye. However it would not do for the public to be made aware that such corruption exists, so the Aranazes work hard to maintain a semblance of a secret.
The building where the brandy is produced is located in the middle of the family land, amidst all of the greenhouses in which all of the fruit is grown to make the brandy (as well as all the fruit that is grown for the legal, public family business). Slaves are distributed according to the requirements of the day, and all will be trained on all aspects of the businesses - the family is aware of the effects of boredom on workers and they endeavour to keep variety in their slaves’ work so as not to see those effects.
Though some may question why there is a stone building situated in the centre of the greenhouses, the family rarely offer tours out to guests visiting, so none see the building close enough for them to truly question it, and those who knew the truth wouldn’t dare to speak of such things aloud.
Prophet's Note: This location requires no permission to self-moderate.
