cos it always reminds me of Nir'wei, and seems appropriate now.
Wrapped up against the cold, she made her way to the Lodge where Nir'wei worked. She hurried there and, once she arrived she had asked the friendly young woman (Poppy, she thought she was called) if Nir'wei was available to speak to please. She reminded her of her name and then stood, waiting. Walking through the streets on the way here she had wondered just how she was going to do this, how she was going to actually tell him. She had so very few friends and she knew that he was one of them, yet she found herself strangely nervous. From the first time that she and he had met, her slave status had sat between them, obvious and overhanging everything. Or so it had seemed. He wanted to fix it and he was frustrated that he could not and, she thought, he was a little frustrated that she did not see things from his point of view. Although, that might have been her putting ideas on to him, projecting notions which she believed others must have. But standing there, she felt quite sure that, more than anything else, her friend would be pleased for her.
When Nir'wei arrived, Faith was indeed there but, even at a glance she looked different. Her shoes were flat, her clothes subdued and comfortable and her hair was brushed and tied back in a simple ponytail. She wore warm gloves and scarf and a thick cloak and she held in her hands a piece of carefully folded parchment.
When he arrived, Faith saw him and she immediately moved to hug him. She looked different, tired and a bit paler than usual, like she was upset about something, which she tried never to show as being, but yet her eyes shone with an expression that was simple delight. "Nir'wei! Oh, I am sorry to interrupt your work, I am, but I had to come and tell you because I thought that you would very much want to know", stepping out of the hug she gave him, she handed him the papers which, fundamentally, were her slave papers, recinded.
"I'm free, Nir'wei. No longer a slave. Just... free", she said, and waited to let that news sink in, expectation, excitement and delight on her face.
