We Stole a House?

Alex stifled a groan as Andraska misunderstood her threat.

It wasn't her saying she was important. It was actually the opposite. The Cauldron would kill her, and kill any Knights she had spoken to, just in case she had spilled anything. "No. You don't understand. That-"

She sighed heavily. "I'm going to die if I end up jail, and you and your partners will too."

Before she could elaborate, the rustling of his companions sounded near. She cocked her head, wondering what the man had in mind. To be fair, her options were limited to begin with.

When he shattered the bottle, Alex flinched. She raised her eyebrows incredulously, surprised he would attempt a ruse such as that. With what had happened earlier, plus Alex's ability to pretend to be innocent, she doubted they would believe him. The downside of that was that Alex would definitely be taken into custody, and the events would be looked into.

Shit.

"Fine," Alex hissed. Now that she had run through all the options, this was by far the best one. Besides, this might actually be fun. She'd never had a chance to 'corrupt' a guard.

The man hardly appeared to be innocent, but Alex liked the little fantasy she had created more.

Head down, arms folded, Alex schooled her expression into that of a girl at least five arcs younger, and her entire demeanour was changed. Were it not for the fact that she hadn't moved and had a hole in her arm, she might have passed as someone else.

Quietly, Alex followed Andraska's lead, unsure how he planned to explain the situation to his comrades. She could give a statement, and wasn't in any danger from the Cauldron as long as she didn't stay there too long. She steadfastly kept her face down, avoiding eye contact with Andraska in case the others picked up on something in her gaze.

Better safe than sorry.

"My two natures had memory in common."
  • 11th of Zi’da, 705
  • The other guard rushed into the room to look at a peculiar scene. The young woman was no longer bleeding as extensively and her face was as innocent as ever. Andraska was watching her, but he otherwise looked unscathed. “What happened?” the man asked.

“Oh, you know. Little bit of this, little bit of that.” Andráska shrugged, “I'm just clumsy, I guess.”

“Immortal's blood, Andráska. You startled me.” the man didn't still seemed jumpy from the incident earlier. He couldn't blame him.

“Ah well, I'll have to be more careful next time,” his eyes had found the mess he had made, and he turned to his comrade, his voice changing, “You find him?”

“No. When the smoke went off, he didn't go to the cellar. Maybe he went outside.”

    How?

András furrowed his brows, looking around. This wasn't going to be an easy investigation. The speed of which that man must have moved was unnatural. How would he get past all three of them and out the door? There were... windows? András contemplated these things, going to one of them and inspecting the pane. He supposed it was possible, but the man hadn't struck him as overly nimble by appearances, and an unsettling feeling settled into his stomach. He looked to the nameless girl, who so conveniently had her eyes cast away, and sighed. She would know something. She had to. “John is outside, looking into it. Maybe he'll come up with something. I need to take her back and ask a few questions. Get a statement.” Prevent her from pressing charges.

“What shall I do in the meantime?”

The question surprised Andráska. Was he being... asked to give orders? Realizing it would sound weak to be unsure, Andras made a quick decision, and gave his instruction, “Continue to search outside. Look for any evidence inside this place, afterwards the owner will need to be contacted. If anything comes up, meet me at the barracks.”

His answer must have been the right one, because he was given a respectful nod, leaving Andras to take care of his new acquaintance. The noble slung the crossbow across his shoulder and grabbed her arm to lead her away. After all, she was a suspect, and he was the law...

    For now.

That was a fun thread, guys! Really saw Andráska come into his own here - he seemed very impressive, which is great, given who (and what) he was up against!
