“I think you are trouble.”

Despite his terrible line, the Naer laughed openly, the sound ringing lightly in the air between them. The man was confident and well aware of his charms – perhaps more than a little bit cocky. Liarra could never decide whether she liked or hated that sort of men. Brushing away the dark strand of her hair, she raised a perfectly arched eyebrow. “That the best you can do?”

A knight who would let a thief with little punishment? She certainly believed that he would be considered trouble by his superiors. “What can I say? Pickpocketing is a fun pastime of mine,” Liarra claimed with an innocent shrug, like it was the most ordinary thing a young woman could do.

“Oh, so you are a knight as well as a doctor? What a talented soul! ” Liarra teased to hide the wince as she lifted her foot. Hiding her weaknesses was just one of the habits she couldn’t shake off no matter what – especially in front of strangers. Stumbling on one leg, she grabbed the knight’s shoulder to steady herself. As he eyed her ankle, the young woman took the time to study him. With his unkempt hair and roguish, he was certainly unlike the other city guards – knights – she had seen so far. When he asked for her name, Liarra smirked. “You first.”

“I am fine, honestly. I have been worse.” A twisted ankle was nothing to sword cuts and a fist to the face. Liarra wondered if the knight kneeling before her had been in an actual fight. It should be interesting what the knights of Rynmere could do – just to find out how much she could get away with if the time came.

She let her eyes wander for a moment, looking at the people who seemed to have taken interest at them. Not that she could blame. Even Liarra would have never seen the sudden turn of events. The faster they could get somewhere less open, the sooner she could get what she wanted. “Maybe we should leave. What would people say for a chivalrous knight like you fraternizing with a criminal?”

  • "Hey, cut me some slack," Andras smiled, caught in his terrible line. He gave a small shrug of his broad shoulders, amused that she was giving him a hard time about it, "I've been stuck out in the hot sun all day, chasing hardened criminals. I'm tired."

Liarra offered her leg and he laughed at her choice of hobby, "Oh? Is that all? Pickpocketing for fun, huh? Well, keep your hands to yourself. I'm a poor boy," As fluid as flowing water, Andraska offered a teasing wink of his green eyes before lowering his gaze to the boot on his knee. He was never one to offer his status, not like brother might or his cousin, Tristan. Tris loved to play games, throw around that fact that he was a posh kid. It briefly occurred to András that he was being rude not offering the girl some sort of identity, and he thought of this as he held her calf. His fingers were light as feathers as they ran along the leather of her shoe, cupping the back of her heel and carefully testing the mobility. Whenever he thought she showed signs of discomfort, he stopped.

"My brother's the doctor," he corrected, wiping sweat from his brow and looking up at her, "I'm just Andráska Venora, at your service," Releasing her leg, he bent at the waist to give a small bow, "Which is why you should be believe me when I say that this ankle is absolutely wrecked. You'll never walk again, sad to say. A true tragedy." A pout from the young noble and a sad sigh, "Now..."

Andráska rose to his feet with a shake of his head, making sure she was steady before asking, "Shall I carry you somewhere like the noble knight I am, or would you like to defy modern medicine?"

    He laughed.

“I make no promises,” the young woman replied with an innocent shrug, her eyes glinting with mischief. “Besides, I doubt anyone who is referred to as my lord can be poor.” The Naer certainly did not miss how the old woman had acted earlier, bowing and apologizing and flustering. She had heard of the name mentioned a couple of times in relation to the war…

Her thought was swiftly cut off by the sudden bolt of pain shooting up her leg. It wasn’t excruciating, but enough to make her say, “Ouch.”

“Andraska?” the raven-haired woman mused. The name rolled smoothly on her tongue. “A rather fancy name, don’t you think? Unlike my humble name, Liarra.”

Once her foot was set back on the ground, the Naer tested it once more. “I can–” She hissed as she tried to put even the slightest weight on her ankle joint. Liarra could already see it getting swollen and red inside her shoe.

Liarra pressed her lips together stubbornly for another moment. It was embarrassing enough that she could not manage a simple pickpocketing, now she had to be carried off by some knight? Like some sort of damsel? Her pride almost couldn’t take it. Knowing she had little choice, Liarra sighed defeatedly. “Fine, but you better not let me fall.” Without too much protest, the Naer did whatever Andraska instructed her to and climbed onto the knight’s broad back.

As her eyes followed the unfamiliar streets, Liarra shifted her weight uncomfortably. She couldn’t recall the last time anyone had ever carried her anywhere – not consciously at least. The curious eyes that were following them didn’t help either. “Where are we going precisely? You could be kidnapping me for all I know.”

  • Liarra.

It suited her, and he smiled roguishly, quirking a brow. She winced in pain and he took his cue, “Don’t let you fall?” Bending, he smiled and carefully scooped her up in his arms, thankful of her tiny frame. “No promises.” The noble winked and held her securely. Their bodies quite close, Andráska couldn’t help but wonder if he smelled dreadful given his upbringing and lessons on proper hygiene. They had both been running in Saun, him with armor, and he could feel the dampness of her shirt against his arm. And he could… see it a bit, as it clung to her curves. He stared ahead, debating his dilemma.

She certainly didn’t smell bad to him, her sweat not yet souring in his opinion. It was embarrassing to think perhaps he was the unpleasant one. Grimacing, he inwardly berated himself for overlooking such a vital detail when flirting with a pretty girl. As he weaved through the street, he moved with amble patience, pausing a few times to let pedestrians pass and taking care to avoid bodies or carts from bumping into her leg. As he moved, his hip ached in protest, but he was sure it would likely only result in an ugly bruise, “So, Liarra the Thief, who I may or may not be kidnapping,” he finally said after a moment, glancing down at her, “You caught that, huh? The name thing?” He wrinkled his nose.

She was a smart one, “Anything can sound fancy in right context,” he tried to think of an example, “What if I called you Lady Liarra?” He looked down at her, “Sounds nice, yeah?” he hummed and looked up the street with an honest smile, “Perhaps, in other contexts… I could be perceived as… someone vaguely… lord-ish,” he released a small laugh, shifting his grip on her waist carefully so that her weight was more comfortable to carry. His body relaxed as he took a turn around the corner, but his eyes looked far more mischievous, “And in other contexts, I’m not very noble at all.”

Drugs. Alcohol. Other miscellaneous behaviors, specifically.

“No worries, love. Suns are still out. Means I’m still a good guy. So, no kidnapping,” He could feel sweat roll between the muscles of his back and down the dip of his spine, and he shifted. Perspiration began building on his forehead and he used his shoulder to wipe at his face. What a handsome sight he must be, “You hungry?”

Then, Andráska stopped before a rather average establishment, a tavern more than a restaurant. A commonly known location for commoners, Ye Olde Inn stared back at them, with a scraggly fellow perched outside the door on a barrel smoking. Andras smiled brightly at the fellow and greeted him while he pushed through the doors, the small female still in his arms. When they walked in, the smell of ale and pot roast greeted them, with an undertone of something slightly sour, and he went to gingerly set her down by a chair in the corner, “My lordly castle,” Andras grinned, “Do you like it, dearest Lady Liarra?”

He looked to her face for a reaction, amused that he had started this adventure with a smoke break and in the same day, had chased a woman through the streets and was now taking her to lunch. Immortals, fate, whatever one believed in... it was a funny thing. He lifted his hand to wave over a barmaid and pulled out a few coins, rolling them around in his palm and slid into his own chair opposite of the thief. Casually, he winked, and the day continued...

Hah! Brilliant thread! I generally don't like fight or chase scenes, so the first part of it I was a bit urgh. But the rest of it was absolutely brilliant! Very funny, these two make such a good couple. I now ship Anrra.. Liaraska? :D

Liarra, a really minor thing but you had some slight jumping of tenses in your posts occasionally. Not enough to remove points, obviously, but it was noticeable at times.
