[Mature] Acquiring the Totem: Anaconda

Image
6th Of Cylus

With a satisfied smile, Fridgar walked through the streets of Andaris. Wrapped around his body was an unconscious, untrained, 29-foot long anaconda, and by the immortals was it heavy. A perfect specimen weighing in at half a ton of raw snake muscle, it was safe to say that Fridgar was delighted. He sweat profusely while carrying the massive creature, a massive weight pressed at the base of his spine and knees with every step through the snow. While the shopkeeper hadn't been kind enough to provide a horse and cart for him to transport the beast, they had provided a 'mild anaesthetic' whatever that meant, followed by lots of warning that he didn't listen to.

He'd been warned that the snake was untrained and would likely attack him when it awoke, so he had to get it back home and lock it up as fast as possible. Not a trill to spare. That was the plan, until a familiar face or two turned the corner. It was Austin and Gwen! Their eyes lit up upon seeing the Lothar, even if he was wrapped up in snake at the time. "Fridgar!" The siblings said in unison, both very excited. "Gwen, Austin! It's good to see you again! How have you been?" he spoke with a smile, despite holding the ridiculously heavy snake in the middle of the cold. They looked well, both were wearing much nicer clothes than the last time he'd seen them and looked to be a little healthier too, Austin having healed and all - not to mention that they were happy.

It brought a smile to his lips to know that he'd impacted their lives in such a positive way, he simply had to check in on all the details - pending snake attack or not. The two explained that they were able to acquire a studio flat in midtown with the money he'd given them along with plenty of clothes and food. The two had eaten like kings on their first night at their new domain, or so they described. Despite being Cylus, Austin was now out looking for work. He didn't want to squander his second chance, even in the slightest. So, he was doing his best so that he could sustain himself and his sister, they didn't once ask about the snake.

A good half a break passed and Fridgar had long since resorted to resting the snake in the snow slightly to spread out the weight, it helped him maintain his strength. The three finished their conversation with a chorus of hearty laughter and waves goodbye as well as pleasant wishes for the future. They were good kids, Fridgar was glad to have not punched them to death five trials ago. He lifted the snake's body segment from the floor and continued his walk back home.

Something stirred within the snake during his walk, Fridgar hadn't noticed. Its tail twitched as it began to regain consciousness. He couldn't help but ponder what Rey'na got up to when he left the house, did she just practise cooking? Poison making? Maybe she just slept, that would have been cute. Without warning, the snake tightened its grasp on Fridgar - it had already been wrapped around him in a perfect manner to do so. He grunted with confusion as his movements were suddenly restricted by a force he couldn't see, looking about the streets with a glare. Was someone using magic on him?

The snake's head rose from its dangled position and looked to him, seemingly rather pissed off. That, or it was hungry. Neither were good in Fridgar's case. The massive beast hissed as it tightened its body further, forbidding any and all movements. "Fuck off, snake!" he growled in a half whisper while struggling to breathe under the immense crushing power of its coils. It adjusted its body, wrapping itself around him further and further. His eyes widened as he realised that the snake didn't want to fuck off - this was bad, very bad. The Lothar was brave, strong too - he could surely wiggle himself out of this some way or another?

No, the snake had other plans. It leaped at him, biting into the top half of his face violently, covering his eyes and forcing him to the floor. He screamed soon after, thrashing to the best of his ability with the bastard creature still wrapped around his body and covering his eyes. His scream was shrill, full of fright - anyone close by would have surely heard it through the otherwise quiet, darkened day.

[Mature] Acquiring the Totem: Anaconda

Woe was on his way back from his 'combat training', having been thoroughly dressed down for various reasons. Too thin, too weak, bad taste in weapons. He didn't care too much, though. He was used to the psychological dampeners from a lifetime as a slave. Well most of his life as a slave. The last ten years had been something of an adjustment. Now he was held to account for what he knew, how he spent his time, and so forth.

Now he spent his time walking through the street, on his way back down to Low-town. He heard the muffled scream. Usually one heard all kinds of strange sounds coming from people in the city, but this sounded more desperate, urgent, and close at hand. In fact it did not cease, and was accompanied by the signs of struggle.

It was very close at hand in fact, he could hear it coming from the house right next to him!

Curious as always, he peeked quickly through the window, expecting to see some degenerate voluntarily getting smothered by his girlfriend, and expecting that he would soon be sick and have to look away. Instead, he saw an empty house. He followed the sounds round the bend, and then spotted a man getting eaten by a giant snake in the middle of the street!

Woe to the rescue again, he knew how this usually went. He'd crack his whip, or extend his foot to trip a villain, only to be beaten down himself, or in this case likely eaten. Even so, he couldn't just leave the man there. He unfolded his bullwhip and crack it at the cobblestones, away from the man and the snake, trying to get its attention. If that didn't work, he'd aim for the body of the snake.

And well, if that failed, he'd have to unwrap it another way. But he'd cross that bridge when he came to it.

This was bad, very bad. If he couldn't reach his totems, all he had to go off was his brute strength and even that wasn't much in the face of the snake's powerful coils. Thrash as he might, there was no stopping the beast. Its jaw unhinged with a pop before it began to slide further over his head. No way. There was no way he was going to end up snake food, was there? Surely, it wouldn't be able to pass his shoulders? With a final scream, the snake took his entire head into its mouth.

A muffled crack in the air sounded beyond the snake meat, forcing the snake to halt for a trill. Then another, only this time it left a stinging sensation on his arm. Had someone stabbed him? Finally, the snake regurgitated his head and looked to its attacker, hissing violently. Fridgar took in a deep breath of air as the snake uncoiled from him, coughing and sputtering while he recovered from the snake's heavy grasp. He smelled putrid, like various dead things all rolled up into one paste of saliva. He immediately wiped his eyes in the foul substance while the snake did what it did.

The snake slithered at Woe through the snow, seemingly unphased by the ice against its scales before leaping at him with insane speed. Should he run, the snake would miss and chase him for half a bit before falling victim to it's cold blood, unable to move. Should he stay and fight, it would inevitably coil woe a, bask in his natural warmth and attempt to eat him too.

Once Fridgar had recovered, he would stand, charge, and punch the snake in the head. Regardless of the outcome of Woe's fight, the snake deserved a punch. Should he have to, he'd pull the unconscious snake from the poor, crushed man and promptly apologise for punching it while a part of him was inside. After that, or if not:

"Phew, thanks for that. You really saved me back there!" he'd put his hands on his knees, bend over a little and recover, coughing and gagging at the foul scent. "What's your name? I'm Fridgar... And would you believe me if I told you I'm a snake trainer...?" The enormous 6'10" Lothar, picked up the snake and wrapped it around his person once more, not having learned from the first attempt at carrying the creature. "Do you wanna walk and talk? or do you have place to be?" he offered. In truth, he didn't want to have to be alone with this creature again, but he wouldn't admit that.

[Mature] Acquiring the Totem: Anaconda

The ex-slave winced as his second attack hit the man's arm. Even so, the giant snake took notice, and turned its attention to the source of the cracking whip. Woe hadn't thought so far ahead, but was only concerned about getting the snake to stop crushing the man and perhaps run towards him? How fast could snakes, even giant ones, move without legs?

Well Woe found out quickly enough that they moved pretty damned fast, even in the ice. Woe didn't waste anytime, he was only trying to help the man, not get himself eaten, although he had realized that was a distinct possibility. He certainly wasn't picking a fight with this thing. So he ran like a gazelle, trying to avoid the snake's leaping while moving as quickly away from the thing as possible. At the last moment, he slipped on the snow. He thought that was it, but then the snake slowed to a stop just feet away from him. Woe's eyes were wide as the large man gathered himself and went over to punch the snake in the head, rendering it unconscious.

Woe got to his feet, brushing the snow and dirt off his breeches before nodding to the large Lothar. "Well, that was something you don't see everyday. Where did you get this beast? And, don't worry about it?"

When the man introduced himself, the ex-slave returned the greeting in kind, "I'm Woe, good to meet you Fridgar. Well, I never met a snake trainer, but I'll take your word for it." At least for the moment, the sound of doubt in the man's voice gave him pause to wonder, but it wasn't entirely important yet. Then as the Lothar wrapped the snake around him again, Woe's eyes went wide, "Uhm, it didn't crush you too badly, did it? I mean that's what snakes do to their prey before eating them, isn't it?" The ex-slave nearly shuddered at the thought of being crushed alive.

"Sure, I could use a talk and a walk after that shocker. I was just taking a walk, when I heard your screaming." Keeping a close eye on the snake, should it awaken once more, Woe questioned Fridgar, "That is one hell of a snake you have there, to be training it. How long have you been training snakes, Fridgar?"

Thank the immortals that this man had some moves. Whether it was blind panic that saved him or absolute skill, he was uncertain, but he was unharmed none-the-less. Ignoring the stinging pain in his arm, The Lothar spoke. "Oh, it was on sale at the pet store. 50 gold nel, can you believe it!?" Fridgar laughed, he hadn't expected to see one, but had to have it. He'd unlocked the reptiles of the animal kingdom anyway and had been searching for the perfect specimen. This feisty noodle just happened to be it.

Crap, this Woe guy was on to him about the snake trainer lie. "Just act natural, dude." Fridgar nodded to Woe with his eyes closed. "That doesn't surprise me, I haven't met another one either!" Fridgar laughed uncomfortably. He then swiftly turned and walked with his new snake defence, Woe. "Oh, don't get me wrong. This bastard stopped me breathing easy enough, but us folk from Gauthrel are a tough bunch." Fridgar affirmed, this was half the truth. Being a Lothar, training in strength was a breeze. That, mixed with the added mass of his recent mutation, had saved him from the iminent collapsing of his rib cage. This explanation should be enough to satisfy the human though, had he ever met a Lotharro before.

"I-I wasn't screaming..." Fridgar spoke, blushing lightly through his scarred cheeks. He cleared his throat "That was a War Cry!" he raised a free fist while maintaining his grip on the snake. Seeing the man's probably sceptical expression, Fridgar sighed. "Okay, so maybe I was screaming. ...Don't tell anyone though." The Lothar's boisterous tone quieted down somewhat, speaking almost humbly before the human. In all fairness, most people would scream upon being bitten in the face by a giant snake, but Fridgar wasn't most people, he oughta get a hold of his discipline to spare him from further humiliation.

Dammit, Dammit all. Woe sussed him out. "Uhh..." he fumbled for his words. Did he give a high lie or a low lie? "...Only a dozen Trails or so, believe it or not. My teacher, Eric, told me 'don't try the Anaconda, Fridgar' and, as you might have guessed, I didn't listen." Fridgar grinned, mentally high giving himself on his awesome lie. While Eric was his teacher, he didn't teach him to train snakes. He was taught Arcana, awesome Arcana, too.

"So, where are you headed?" Fridgar asked with a glance, keeping a firm grip on the limp noodle in his arms. "I'm headed to the front gates, it's totally alright if you don't go all the way with me though, it's quite a trek." Fridgar looked to the snake wrapped around him. "I'll just punch it again if it wakes up!" The Lothar laughed, heartily. His hand drifted to his forearm, rubbing it with a wince. "I think the snake wasn't the only thing biting me, you know!" Fridgar turned his head to the human with s playful grin. While he had no idea how the human had managed to bite him while being attacked by an anaconda, he was glad that it had taken the snake off of him.

[Mature] Acquiring the Totem: Anaconda

In truth it was luck that saved Woe. He had no idea of the snake's intolerance to the cold, and that it would stop him, and had been frantically running and jumping until he slipped. Then the rest was already told.

"Uhm... Oh thanks for punching it out before it started on me, by the way." Woe was a bit apprehensive as the big guy got closer. He eyed the small lash he'd made in the man's arm apprehensively, "You're not too badly hurt at all, are you?" This Fridgar seemed a bit nervous and quick of tongue. With the adrenaline of escaping such a grim fate, it was to be expected, however.

Satisfied that the Lothar was not seriously hurt, he shrugged at most of the words that came pouring out regarding his career as a snake handler. He decided to take him at his word, not being great at telling lies from truth. Given the circumstances, the man's strange circumstance and behavior was understandable. So Woe was willing to suspend disbelief until such a time as he had to question the other man's... state of mind?

"I doubt your screaming will come up in any conversations, but yeah I won't tell anybody." He said with a shrug.

The later question as to whether he'd follow him seemed less like an invitation to join him and more of a politely discrete 'bugger off'. Nevertheless Woe wasn't offended. "Is that the gate near Warrick's Watch? I live not too far from there. If so, and you want, I can go with you until we get to the Watch, then I'll let you and your pet go." That is if it didn't wake up and decide Woe's head looked tastier than Fridgar's.

When the big guy referred to something else biting him other than the snake, Woe nodded, "I'm afraid I'm to blame for that." He pointed toward his leather bullwhip, and then toward the small scrape on the Lothar's arm. "Sorry, I was aiming for the snake's body. I tried the ground, but the snake didn't much care at the first sound of the whip."

"I'm just coming back from my job, at the Andaris Dungeon." He said, trying to put the Lothar at ease. It didn't occur to him immediately that saying he worked in a dungeon may have been counterproductive toward that end. "Nasty work sometimes, but some folk need to do it."

Fridgar smiled politely at the human, but screamed underneath. This Woe fella was a nice enough guy, but to hell with taking the hint apparently. "Uhh, it's the gate that goes straight beyond the walls... I don't really know what it's called." Fridgar spoke the truth, he didn't have time to stop and read. He was a busy man, the rapid growth of his spark had a hunger that needed sating in the form of totems. "That would be great, honestly." Fridgar lied. "I don't really want to be left alone with this thing, haha!" he laughed nervously, that much was the truth. His black eyes fell to the creature’s head as it dangled, still very unconscious.

"You bit me!?" Fridgar screeched with disbelief before Woe explained that it had been his whip. "Ohhh, gotchya. Nah, It's fine, don't worry about it." Fridgar shrugged off the injury, it barely hurt in the cold. Next to breaking down his body and rebuilding it repeatedly, the cut on his arm was no big deal. Sneakily, Fridgar reached up and touched his necklace, initiating chrysalis and repairing the wound over the space of two bits.

He raised an eyebrow "The dungeons, huh?" He'd only slept there a few times, and it was often because he'd gotten in a scrap while drunk. Thankfully, Woe didn't recognise him, the journey would have been so much more awkward otherwise. "Yeah, I know what you mean. Who else is gonna train snakes if I don't, you know?" He held back a chuckle, still barely able to believe that the man had fallen for his genius. Woe following him was a problem, he could just as easily unleash deeper in the woodlands then sprint for Rey's house, but the man could easily tail him, too. An Idea struck.

"Say, have you heard the rumours, over there in the dungeons, about the woods?" Fridgar asked with curiosity. Maybe there were actual rumours, maybe not. But he would start them now if there weren't any already. "They say there's a beast out there, a man killer." Fridgar explained, looking to Woe to see if he was buying it. "It's the truth, they found a few chewed-up bodies out there before Cylus hit, Ilaren knows if anyone's dumb enough to go out in perpetual darkness, though." This was the truth, he'd left a couple of chewed up remains out in the woods of his victims and he'd recently been feeding off the wildlife, a stray Ryon and all. "Scary stuff, right?" Fridgar asked, almost delighted. This 'rumour' should be enough to stop Woe following him beyond the gates.

They finally reached Fridgar's checkpoint destination after a few bits, the city's main gates. "Thanks for the company Woe, and for saving me from being a snake's meal!" Fridgar laughed. "I hope we'll meet again, sometime. Hopefully over more pleasant circumstances." With a wink and a nod, he headed through the gates and slid down a slope into the treeline before setting the snake down, leaving Woe behind. He looked behind him, only to see the dark. Satisfied, he stirred his ether, preparing for an unleash.

[Mature] Acquiring the Totem: Anaconda

As they arrived at the gates, Woe looked to Fridgar to see what he'd do, and also the snake to be sure it wasn't waking. It did seem that the big guy didn't want Woe following him outside, and Woe had no real reason to deny that wish.

The ex-slave listened to the tales about people turning up having been eaten by some... thing. Normally he would've been curious about such occurrences, but not to the point of pursuing a beast with no gain attached to the act of investigating. Perhaps if a bounty came up he'd think about it, but his fitness stood, Woe could barely subdue a snake in winter. So he decided he'd pass on a wilderness excursion, as Fridgar exited through the main gate.

"See you later then, maybe." Woe shrugged, and headed off on his way, content to let the man deal with his purchased beast in the outskirts of the city. If he got eaten by the thing, and didn't wish for a defense (or decoy) in the form of Woe's company, the ex-slave wasn't about to argue. So he chickened out on following the suspicious man, and headed on home, to return to his training the next day, perhaps.
OOC
Yes, so Woe chickened out on following Fridgar. Thanks for having me in this thread for as long as I lasted, hehe. That is, unless it isn't over. Otherwise I'll let you take over. Sorry bout the short post. Just wanted to free you up to go about your character's business with the Anaconda.

Finally alone, he initiated the transformation. Blend, he commanded with a touch of his bear and Fridgar totems. The Werebear emerged without a roar this time, not this close to the walls at least. Now that the facade had been cast away, he bit into the anaconda's body near the bead, decapitating it with the single strike. Stupid creature he thought to himself before picking up the two parts, wearing the body as a scarf above his totem necklace and breaking into a sprint on all fours with the creature's head held firmly in his jaws.

He ran deeper and deeper into his woodland, eventually reaching Rey's house. He stood up onto his hind paws and opened the door, stomping his way in with tremendous weight. He immediately sighed, blood decorated the walls and floor. A quick inhale through his nose confirmed that the blood wasn't that of Rey'na. Rey's been busy He thought before proceeding into his room, where the Ryon carcass remained nice and chill. He snapped his head to the left with extreme speed and flung the snake's head from his jaws, it bounced around the room for six or seven before slowing to a halt on the floor, he stomped into paste under his massive paw as he walked for his workstation.

There, he placed the snake's carcass on the table and bit through a small segment before hanging the smaller segment to train with his blood bowl beneath it. Taking the snake segment, he turned to his bed and approached, stepping over the dead Ryon. Planting himself there, he looked to the snake segment with a watery maw. it wasn't warm, but it was near enough to fresh kill thanks to the cold. Fuck it he dug in, ripping through the underside of the segment, swallowing the chunks of soft, moist, fresh kill. Reptile didn't quite taste as nice as warm mammal, but it was satisfactory all the same, perhaps more than satisfactory.

He pulled the meat from each rib bone and the spine columns too. Eventually, after painting himself during his feast, the snake was dry of all succulence. Only it's bone remained on the segment. His black eyes looked to the draining snake, it's massive weight had drained the creature fast enough, but he wasn't ready. With his enormous clawed paw, he pulled the spine segments apart with an ear pleasing series of pops. He snapped the ribs from the beast and set the column to the sanding stone, sanded down a segment of the creature's spine to an appropriate size and shape and readied his hand drill. With great difficulty, he bored a hole through the bone near the top.

With that, he looked to the snake's body. The bowl had all but overflown, spilling onto the table and onto the floor. he shrugged. What did it matter? The house was plastered with gore anyway. With his claw, he cut out a square of the snake's scales and set it aside. With a deep inhale, he took hold of the blood bowl with both hands, put it to his lips and drank to about half way. He took about a tenth of the fluid in glue and added it to the bowl, mixing with one of his brushes into a thin, deep pink paste. using the same brush, he painted the underside of the totem with the paste then pressed the square of scale he'd cut out to the mixture. He held the scales there for a few bits while the glue set, when it was done, he cut with a little more precision around the edges.

Satisfied, he focused his being on the Fridgar totem and initiated the transformation of two bits. his skin crawled with agony, but he stood still, unflinching in the face of the maddening explosive pain across his form. Once he was Fridgar again, he removed his necklace, ignoring the blood that seeped through his clothing completely. A shiver crawled down his spine as he eyed up the snake's carcass, it had tasted better than he'd first given it credit for. The string of the necklace soaked in the blood of the snake on the table, he untied the knot regardless. With his precise hands, he threaded the string through and added the Anaconda totem to the accessory next to the Ryon's. Eagerly, he tied the knot and re-equipped his necklace.

This was always the best part, becoming a bird was a lot of fun for the first time, now he got to try scales. He stirred his ether, quickening it to a point and focused his being on the Anaconda totem, unleashing into the mighty reptilian. His arms folded against his form, melting into his body with his clothing, as did his legs, forming together as his spine extended downward. His rips snapped from being conjoined and separated into individual sections, one for each column of his new spine. His head snapped backwards as his head began to shrink and elongate. The mane that had previously decorated his cranium withdrew into his body and his skin melted inward to be replaced by scales, he began to fall as the last few details sorted themselves out, his teeth disappearing to be replaced by four rows of sharp fangs, his tongue reshaping, his eyes becoming slitted among other things.

Fridgar lay on the floor, an Anaconda. The first thing he noticed was the absurd cold and difficulty to move. It felt as though all his muscles were encased in stone, still as the grave. With a great deal of struggle, he forced his body to move in a sway from side to side along his length. Suffice to say that the Anaconda would have to be saved for Ashan, it's cold blooded body made movement near to impossible during Cylus. He attempted to turn for the table only to find that he couldn't move. Fantastic! his thoughts rampaged. This snake totem had been more trouble that it was worth, now he had to wait for Rey'na to get home from wherever she was (probably burying some bodies) to fetch his necklace and help him turn back.

With that fresh in his mind, he waited with his belly on the floor, hopefully she'd know it was him. Though, with half of his body poking out from the gore spattered room, she'd probably figure it out.

and looking a bit of a fool for losing  (-1)

Okay, nice amusing thread, I loved the "You BIT me??" bit.
But I gotta call you on a couple things.
1.) You have the snake being both largely unhindered by the cold weather when it attacks you, AND largely paralyzed by it when you Become it.
2.) The lore says you can't dedicate a totem on the fly, and that it takes "the course of a trial" to complete. You don't necessarily say how fast you dedicated this one, but the suggestion is that it was pretty quick. There's no indication that skill level matters, that I can find.
3.) The werebear form you mention would be the result of "Borrowing" not "Blending", which is blending features of two totems of the same species. However, you seem to have used it before, and you are Expert, so I just gave you the knowledge.
None of these are of any great consequence.
Hope you have no objection to the Jewelry Crafting bit. It's not a magical part of the Becoming skill, but you put such detail into it, it deserved something.
No need to do any follow-up thread for Rey'na to bring you your necklace.
PM me with any comments or concerns :)

I enjoyed the clumsy small talk while Frid tried to get you to give him his privacy.
