The Little Garden

The Little Garden is a tall, sturdy building in Venora, often covered in ivy during warmer seasons, and appears bright and welcoming on most days. Due to the beauty and excitement of other shops surrounding it, this place looks lackluster in comparison, and as a result, has not always received the attention it deserves. Large, and with plenty of space, this could be the ideal home for children in need, but instead lacks proper funding and the woman in charge is often run thin doing everything by herself, i.e cooking, cleaning, sewing, which often leaves some other items such as leaky roofs, drafty windows, etc, to go unchecked. The few older children try to help with the chores and the care of the youngest residents, but labor is still in small supply.

If one were to walk inside, they would see just how plain it is. The floors are a dark mahogany, but the walls are a dull grey or white with the paint chipping in various places. Some of the children's clothing is too small, or too loose, often rotated or handed down among the youths until the matron can afford to buy a new outfit, often out of her own pocket money. Very few toys litter the halls, but the children make due with the best they can. Despite its desperate need for money, the bright spirits and faith of the matron keep this place from falling into disrepair.

Originally born to an upper class family, she was always very fond of children and planned to start a large family of her own, but after being slighted at the altar, decided not to settle down, and instead care for others without a man. She used her dowry to buy an old house and got a contract with Sabaissant and filed all the formal zoning papers. Soon enough, the Little Garden flourished, but after some time, her own money started to run low and the taxes haven't quite cut it.
