[Krome] Shed no tears

34th Saun, Arc 709

The suns were rising and but Xander was already up. He hadn't slept last night, he hadn't slept for days. His heart was just too weak and he didn't have the calm he needed to pass out of the waking world. So he had just sat, staring through the window of his room, watching comers and goers as well as the suns rise and fall. He had run out of tears to shed, they were all gone from the days before. All that remained from Xander now was an emptiness in everything, his face, his mouth his eyes and his heart. His whole being was broken, fractured down the middle. He was just a shell and he felt like he would never feel whole again, like he had lost a part of himself.

She had been his life for 10 years, she had been the one thing that kept him 'normal' and now she was gone. His eyes may no longer weep for her but his soul did. He had never lost someone he cared about, never experienced the pain of seeing someone you loved die and now he had he realised just how cruel the world was. He could not understand why the world would take someone so innocent and sweet as his sister from the world. Zara had been nothing but a blessing upon the world, still she had had her life ripped from her. It just wasn't fair or so Xander believed.

His mind was taken from the absent minded staring out of the window to his door when a knocking filled the room. He looked at the door with a heavy heart, it must have been time already. He pushed himself to his feet and straightened his black suit, he wasn't ready. Obviously he was dressed for the occasion and he was physically prepared his heart was not. He hadn't the guts to say goodbye, he felt guilty every second. He had gotten her sick, he had caused her to die and that was lingering over him every second.

He opened the door to find Badon, the butler and his old friend, stood before him. "It is time my dear boy, come you are to attend the funeral with your parents." He clasped the teenage boy on the shoulder doing his best to comfort him. Badon may have been the type to sympathise with a man's pain but he was not good at comforting them. He was not often needed too, instead he had spent many years learning and discovering ideas and ways to take Krome into a new free golden era. Yet he still did his best for his 16 arc old disciple.

The walk to the willow tree under which Zara would be buried was not a long one, only a couple of kilometres. However, when walking with his two parents who care little for him, having not even checked he was okay, felt like a lifetime. The walk was wordless, filled only with the clear sadness felt by the three.

The tree that came into sight was all too familiar for Xander. He had played around this tree with Zara for more than 8 arcs of the girls life, he had climbed every branch big enough to hold him. They would play catch around the tree, chasing one another in a loop that never ended. His ears were filled with the sound of nonexistent laughter, it was in his head. He could hear the sounds of his sister as if Zara were stood only metres away. Of course she wasn't what was ahead, however, was the coffin. His eyes looked at the wicker basket, made form a willow much like the one behind it. Zara would have liked such a natural casket, one that would rot away into the earth and help it to keep going.

His attention was drawn from the coffin to Olivia, the girl he was now confused about. Was she is friend or his enemy, was she the kind of person he wanted to see anymore. All she did now was remind him of Zara, bring up memories he now seeked to bury. He did knows if he could continue to be her friend, but for this moment he would try. Although, she did remind him of his sister he still had nobody else and he wondered if he really wanted to block her out, to sever the connection so cleanly. His mind was a mess as he walked over and stood beside her, steeling himself as he readied to face the task of saying goodbye.
