[Krome] Fortune favours the fit

Cylus 27th, Arc 717

It was cold and Xander felt it against his exposed face, the icy touch of the breeze on his cheeks. Luckily it wasn't snowing anymore which meant that Xander was able to enjoy the cold without getting soaked by snow. He was also thankful for this cold air, it would make the running much more bearable. When running in the hot you would just get sweaty and it was not pleasant, at least in the cold there is much less sweat. Xander was wearing his coat even though he was running and he realised he needed to invest in some more suitable clothes for exercise next time he visited the town. His current attire was just not suitable for what he had planned now.

"Here we go." He spoke aloud to himself as he began to jog, pushing off with his right foot and beginning the rather mundane task of running. One foot in front of the other over and over, each step he made sure to lift his foot high enough that it didn't catch in the snow or the ground. It was certainly harder to run in such conditions but maybe the challenge would make the exercise more worth it. So it continued one foot in front of the other as he ran the loop he had planned for himself.

It started with the main road, taking it straight away from his home until he reached the forest path that turned left. This path would continue for a a while before he would have to take another left following it for a little longer than the original straight meaning it would run the whole way past the back of his home and up until it was a couple hundred metres past the end of his house. Then would come another left following a long curving path that ends with a 200 metre straight to the front of the house. It was a very simple route and mostly on flat and even ground but int he snow even that became a hard run. Not to mention with his limited running experience it would be twice as hard than for a seasoned runner.

He was running quite quick and at a pace that it was unlikely he would be able to keep up, especially with the extra effort of having to lift his feet higher from the floor. Xander was certainly inexperienced and as he came to a short downward hill he actually found himself slipping a few times. He was really inexperienced but he managed to stay on his feet and avoid being butt first in the snow. The last thing he wanted was that, the cold and icy water that would result from such a fall was not something he wished for at all.

Xander was coming up on the first left when he began to feel the burning sensation in his calves. It was earlier than he ahd expected and had hoped he would get further before he started to feel the exercise affect him. Clearly he was wrong as the burning quickly turned into more, an addition of pain and discomfort. So he distracted himself, searching his mind for something to think about as he ran, something to stop him thinking about the burning in his weak calves. His mind came across the idea of revolution, much like it often would and he decided to come up with some contingency plans. He trusted Alistair to help him with his aims and he trusted his few other allies to help if needed.

Yet it did not hurt to be ready for anything, preparation and planning were what won wars and kept you safe. Xander wanted to be both safe and winning so planning was clearly of great importance. He ignored the burning that nagged at him from his lower legs, luckily it had not spread to the thighs yet. He needed a plan for how he could achieve his goals without the support of Venora if the need came about. He hoped it wouldn't but he needed a solid plan, he needed to be ready. His first thought went back to slowly taking over Krome and become Duke, then once in this position making sure he was able to build up a large military force, declare independence and just defend his lands. No Duchies had better men than Krome and none knew the land better than those from there. Although this was not his favourite choice, he needed more support than just Krome.

His next line of thought as he rounded the second left corner and began to feel the burning spread to his lower thighs, was of a marriage, some form of political marriage to bring another house to his side. However, this was risky as there was no promises that the house would be willing to support him in his aims. Still, there was no harm in gaining a wife and it may have the desired effect. It was a possibility and not one he would ignore, it was definitely something to consider.

It grew harder to ignore the burning and the pain as the small upward slope began. Xander let our a few grunts and his breath would catch in his throat as he made his way up the shallow slope, shallow but still harder on his muscles. He fought against the urge to walk, Fridgar had told him that it was important to make your muscles work hard, to burn and hurt. That way he knew he was doing it right and they would repair and grow back stronger. So Xander powered on as best as he could, his speed already half what it had been at the start, maybe he had begun too fast.

The run was only about six kilometres in distance but it was long enough for Xander, he was not well experienced or practise in aerobic exercising. This was what he was hoping to change by running though, still making sure not to drag his feet. He had been happy to find that under the cover of the trees the snow was shallower and so he had not had to lift his feet so high. Xander was not unfit by any means, or at least he did not appear so. Yet, he was already panting and struggling to keep himself going and he was only half way, he knew he really needed to get better. Yet, Andaris wasn't built in a day and neither would he get fit in such time.

His mind wandered back onto rebellion, he had now moved away from contingency and back up plans and instead was thinking about informants and researchers, he had already enlisted and asked for the assistance of the lovely miss Edalene. He hopes to see her as a researcher to find out the weaknesses in history of the opposing houses as well as to keep an eye on the proceedings of Andaris city and the Noble house by the same name that resides there. She would hopefully be a useful asset and someone who he could make good use of. All it had taken, apparently, was the offer to record an immense event in history, seemed quite easy for asking her to basically be his spy. A surprisingly low price for treason, maybe she just hadn't realised what he had dragged her into.

The third corner was coming up and Xander struggled against the screams and protests of his leg muscles, searching for the strength to go on. He found it in the way of thinking of facing men twice as strong and fit as him, it was not an appealing prospect and so he forced himself onward. He was running little more than a slow jog not as he came up on around five kilometres. Everything screamed and Xander struggled to stay fully upright as the ice was slippery under foot and the legs weak. Yet, he kept going even if he was unable to distract himself any longer.

Finally came the last 200 metres and Xander stumble forward at a high pace towards the house, at least he had been right about the cold weather. One thing Xander knew for sure was he had to make it to the house and so he dug deep, searching for the strength. He found it and pulled on it, the idea of winning the revolution would require him to be strong and so he kept up his pace quickening slightly until he finally reached it. He was panting heavily and gasping for air as he bent over and put his hands on his weakened legs. He took deep breathes as the snow began to come down again, the short break over and now it returning to the white blizzard like landscape.

"I will find a way with or without Alistair to take this land and make it free." He muttered under his breath as he thought aloud on what he would need to think about some more in his spare time. He needed back up and contingency plans and those he would make another time. Now his priority was with getting inside and cleaning himself and that was what he would do. He would conciser his options and make sure all was in order for when the time might come that he needs it. It never hurt to be ready and in fact it would only improve Xander's chances in achieving his aims.

Inside the house it was much warmer, the heat would hit him the moment he stepped inside and he would long for a cup of warm tea. Taken black with a few drops of honey and a slice of lemon squeezed into the mix. He was greeted by Badon who took his coat and let him go through to the warm hearth room. He requested a cup of tea from the man as he curled up on his chair under a blanket and waited for the tea, watching the flames flicker in the fireplace. licking the air.
