Rebirth Cycle, 711
midday
It was something of a holiday and he had been invited to Jared Warrick's home for a party of sorts. The First Hunt was upon them, and this was an event taken seriously in Warrick. Being in the grasslands during rebirth and being of noble stock, when he had come across Jared in a nearby town Vaughn had immediately been invited to join in their celebrations.
The young man was on a sabbatical, sent to tour the seven duchies and learn about history and meet the nobles and blah blah blah. The First Hunt wasn't a holiday Vaughn had ever taken part in, and as he was supposed to learn about the regions now (unlike a few happy arcs ago, when he had traveled on a whim), he figured experiencing the Hunt firsthand in Warrick might be better than having to learn about it in books or from hearsay. Vaughn himself wasn't one for hunting despite being a Krome wolf; he preferred to free animals rather than kill them, but then again it wasn't like he didn't eat meat either. And he'd have a story to tell Marcus, too, whenever his brother next came home.
Jared had let on that Vaughn should socialize with his daughters, twins a few years younger than him named Lazuli and Lei'lira. He figured that was not such a bad way to spend a trial either, especially considering his mother didn't know about it and so wouldn't pester him. Jared was one of the few higher nobles Vaughn could stand; the man seemed earthy and had a warmth to him that meant he wasn't bent on power or climbing political ranks. If his daughters were anything like him, Vaughn would get along with them just fine.
---
When he arrived at the Warrick's farmhouse it was to find a small get-together, a pre-hunt party Jared had called it, already in full swing. Ambling up to the house he knocked on the door, which was opened invitingly for people to let themselves in, and so without further ado he meandered inside.
First he sought out Jared to let the Baron know that he was here. After a brief conversation, Vaughn found himself pointed to a corner of a nearby room where he found a girl, probably sixteen or seventeen arcs in age, sticking mostly to herself. Lei'lira her father had told him, and so Vaughn approached the girl, careful to give her a smile.
"Hello," he said, cautiously because from what her father said she was shy. "Mind if I join you?" He stuck out his hand and grinned. "I'm Vaughn Krome. My mother Vanessa is one of your father's peers."
