47th Trial of Zi'da,
717th Arc
717th Arc
The Viden Infirmary was the last place Virikai wanted to be sent on his first day back to work in over an arc. He had initially gone straight to the Facility of Retrospective Analysis but the team, unprepared for his arrival, had stared at him blankly before quickly conferring amongst themselves. That was the initial snub that set the young lordling on edge. But he acquiesced when he was taken aside by one of the supervisors and sent back upstairs to the Infirmary. Virikai could, after all, appreciate that the FRA was a delicate business, and they would need to find a slot for him once again. If not, a quick word with his father and all would be dealt with.
Once entering the Infirmary, Virikai had made a beeline for one of the healers, explaining his situation, though vaguely passing over where he had been sent from. The healer, too, was unsure of what to do with the medical student. Though he had a Letter of Medicine under his belt, Virikai had never practiced, and his knowledge was at least a year out of date. At best, he could be a support worker, but even the healer was aware that ordering the young Talius scion to clean bedpans and provide personal care to patients was well below par.
For these reasons, Virikai found himself in a third location that morning: behind the scenes of the Infirmary, working to support the herbalists. It was reasoned that Virikai had attended lectures in herbalism, so knew the basics… and somehow, his experience may be useful for his current ventures in academia. The erudite had no idea how herbalism would support him in pursuing a degree in Clinical Neurology, but he did not argue, biting his tongue lest the slowly bubbling anger boiled to the surface.
Entering the room, Virikai schooled his expression into one of complete indifference as he surveyed the already working employees. He recognised a few, who nodded in greeting, and he returned the gesture. But his eyes zeroed in on the woman who had caused him nothing but vexation for the past arc and a half. The naer worked quietly, mostly away from the others - the brief, disdainful glance was not enough for Virikai to pass judgement on how she was treated, after working in a job he had supplied her for so long.
Despite his contemptuous stare, he did not immediately approach her; such things were just not done. One of the healers approached and Virikai, once again, explained that he had been sent here to support the staff, and to gain practical experience in herbalism. “Right… well… let me see…” The herbalist was a little flustered at what to do with the young lord and Virikai breathed deeply, desperately trying to maintain a sense of calm. “Linika is working on an interesting concoction today,” he pointed in the near’s direction, though was clearly nervous about sending the lordling to work with the outcast.
“It’s an experimental project she has been working for a while this past season. Perhaps, with your academic background, you could offer some pointers…” The man trailed off, unsure. Virikai’s eyes narrowed as he looked back to the pariah who had somehow been blessed by Yvithia. He didn’t say anything, merely nodded tightly before strident over. “Good morning, Miss Amarinthine.”
