The crystal city of Uleuda is accessed from the minds of the Yludih. A safe haven from the persecution suffered in Idalos, Uleuda provides a place for Yludih to learn about their people from the Ancients, congregate together about the light bringing crystal Yldria, and begin the process of unlocking their 'gates' to eternal life.

Between Worlds

He woke. He woke. He woke. Again and again.

Going between. Spiraling.

Confusion. Pain. A lot of pain. Where was he?

Bright lights stung his eyes. Then there was a certain dimness, like being under the shadow of a cloud. Around him was darkness with gleaming glowing shapes like tall towers.

Where was he?

He tasted blood. The late yellow sun shone in his eyes before the clouds passed over again. Was it summer? No there were no seasons here. No sense of smell and only little sense of time.

Where was he?

---

He was moving but he was holding still. Someone was carrying him. Every new movement there was a pain, sharp through him, like something cutting. Screams. But it was quiet here. He was not being carried. He was standing still.

"You're--!" someone had said. Somewhere else: "Yludih. You're a monster."

"You're the Wanderer! We've been looking for you!" "I've got you. I've found you."

Distantly, a memory: "Father's dead and I have found you. I will never leave you again."

"Come, this way. Come, finally. Your penance." Long and drawn out: "You will pay."

And still, where was he?

There were multiple voices talking all at once. Two different conversations in two different languages. Neither made sense to a mind that was lost in between. If only he could tell where he was.

---

Wait. There was something.

He was hot, hot and confined. He couldn't-- he couldn't move his arms. He was bundled up in something soft and scratchy, but it was too warm here and it hurt. But at the same there was no feeling. There was nothing, no temperature. Pain didn't exist in the soul.

Yes. Yes it did.

Somewhere locked away he writhed in discomfort. Trapped in a small room on a cot. There was humming crystal around him; no. And then, feeling the catch in his side he screamed.

More pain, why did it hurt so badly? A sound like footsteps, someone was coming, someone else screaming, and then the screams were joined by a phantom voice which shouted, getting louder and angrier as it neared. Hands gripped his shirt;
he was alone. There was still more pain and still more shouting. "Shut up, I said shut up!" A fist and at once there were stars in his eyes, sparking and stationary in two separate worlds. He was spinning spinning between them until, trying to make sense of it, the fist came again and--

And he felt the two worlds shift and settle. There was a moment of clarity. Blessedly he was in one place, still in both worlds but here at least he knew where he was. He could finally see.

He was in the Uleuda realm in a small space like a pod or cubicle with a low, sloping ceiling. It was all made up of crystal, tinted soft blue emanating a pale, teal glow. Soothing. He was lying down. Alone. He knew he was supposed to be doing something but the instructions had not made sense to him and so he didn't know what he was doing now. Something like, something like resting.

He was tired, exhausted, and needed to sleep. Or no, wait. He was sleeping already.

Where was he?

In the Uleuda he wandered through the faceless crowds.

How long had he been here?

It felt as if he had been here forever but it could not have been that long, no more than a few days at most. He remembered the bright and dim, bright and dim of the Mother crystal though the passing of time had made little difference to him.

Where was Yanaqi? There was something about a seashell made of pearl.

And then there was the pain. Pain was the only constant inside him.

Did he remember?

He thought his hand was cut but when he looked down it wasn't, it was made up of smooth and perfect crystal.

Did he remember?

Was he wearing a ring made of death? No. His hands were plain and beautiful but they were unadorned.

He took a few steps further and only then did he realize again the one thing that was absolute truth for him now, coming to him as certain as existence.

The pain was a constant but sometimes it swelled.

One more step, two, and the immensity of his injury hit him and he swayed and went to a knee. He didn't need to breathe, especially here in this place, and yet he couldn't draw deep breath and he was struggling and choking on the pain.

Did he remember?

He was bleeding, bleeding badly. No. He was whole, wasn't he? In the Uleuda someone stopped nearby and reached out as if to help him; he couldn't tell what they were saying, their voice came to him as if delivered through water. He shook his head. "Please," he said, but he had no voice of his own.

Did he remember?

Had he screamed til there was no sound left? "Please leave me alone."

With great effort he staggered back to his feet and began walking again. Limping heavily as if to fall. In the Uleuda he had no injury.

Did he remember?

There had been silver blood. No, the blood was made of burning light. There was no blood at all.

---

Why did he hurt? Sometimes he hurt so badly the world went shocky and grey. Those were the times he hovered in between the two different worlds, and he heard things that were not truly there.

It was a man's voice, or sometimes multiple men who seemed to be holding a conversation. Once he thought he heard his own voice, far away from him as it babbled in Rakahi, but what was it he had said?

If he concentrated very hard in those moments of grey pain, whatever was happening almost became real. He could almost see it.

And then whatever it was was gone. And he walked on.

He knew this was the Uleuda and he knew something was wrong with him here, he didn't like to be here, but the other world was just as wrong, tenuous and confusing and it hurt. Here there was light and crystal and darkness. Somewhere else he remembered much more; he remembered the ocean. There was no ocean in this crystal place.

If he concentrated very hard he heard the voices, and if he listened even harder he thought he could he hear the waves.

Maybe he was supposed to go to them, but he couldn't find his way out. He walked on.

---

He wanted to go someplace, there was someplace specific, but he could only walk and wander and he didn't know where to go. That was what they called him here: the Wanderer. It was an apt name.

He would lift a foot and step, lift and foot and step, and it should have been easy. Sometimes it was easy, it was as simple as walking had always been. But other times each step was hard and he was very confused; why was he like this, why did it hurt? Those were the times he began to limp and fall. It didn't matter that when he looked down he saw he was not wounded. There was pain, and soon enough he was overwhelmbed by the static as it came to his mind. Each time the static came to him it tried and failed to wash the world away. But which world was it trying to get rid of?

Later, after the confusion and pain had passed he would wake without having gone to sleep and find that for now, at least, the pain was not so overwhelming. He would walk further; sometimes he tried to run and he wandered without stopping. He was exhausted all the time but it didn't matter. Here he could walk forever.

He didn't rest if he could help it. He walked or he ran. He didn't know why but he felt like he should be trying to go someplace. He felt like he should be trying to get away.

Quio knew he should be trying to escape.
