The Stormlands

The Stormlands

Outside of Rharne’s city walls and beyond the Dust Quarter lies the Stormlands. This expansive plot of land is home to a sea of farmlands and meadows. The farmlands typically play host to a number of wheat, barley, or oat fields that are used in Rharne’s thriving alcohol trade. Farms that specialize in livestock tend to have pastures to raise goats and cows for their ability to produce milk, which lends itself to a localized dairy industry, though there are a few horse breeders among them.

The southern Stormlands are home to a variety of vineyards, which support the production of local wine and grapes. These vineyards tend to be popular amongst tourists and some have begun to offer their services as holiday spots for wealthy merchants who wish to escape the city for a short time.

The occasional forest also lives within the Stormlands, the largest of which is Ywyngyll. Ywyngyll lies just west of Rharne and is a massive forest that houses one of the Hearts of Unabor. Though these woods are not as malevolent as some of her brothers, it is not advised for any to enter without a guide.

To the east of Rharne is Lake Lovalus. The lake is roughly 200 miles in diameter and those who look out on it will often see nothing but water and rolling waves. Even from the peak of Rharne’s mountain, the other side of the lake isn’t visible. Lake Lovalus feeds into the sea by way of the Zynyx river. The river is approximately sixteen miles long at its widest, and is the main trade and travel route in and out of Rharne. Along its edge sits several small towns and villages with only a few thousand Rharnians living in each. These towns tend to be prime targets for pirate raids and bandit attacks, which has resulted in an unusually hardened and suspicious citizenry.
