When Kura talked about the timing of letters, Faith considered for just a moment and then spoke. "Next council meeting, I'm going to suggest that we put forward a proposition where we use the Eclipse portals, between all three places, in order to speed up mail from all three. That makes sound sense from all three places. If we sent mail once every ten trials, it would speed things up enormously, still. " Faith smiled at Kura and nodded. That was the good thing about discussing things, of course, it allowed you to come to conclusions, to come up with thoughts which one might not when alone.

Kura's question was genuine and Faith chuckled. "No one ever accused me of entirely logical, Kura." The young woman gestured around, somewhat helplessly. "I have to do it. Freedom, real freedom. Subscribing to system even as a stepping stone goes against everything I believe. Whilst good sense tells me that by doing this, I'm saving lives by avoiding bloodshed, my heart tells me that I'm subscribing to the very system that I seek to overthrow. Hence, guilt." It was simple and it was clear and she knew it about herself, she said. She also knew that it wasn't logical but it was part of what drove her. "I have the same thing in medicine," Faith explained. Having cured the Rot, she felt bad for all those people who she could have saved if only she'd cured it earlier. It was who she was and it was part of what made her push, always.

Kura was going to the Derby, that was a good thing she thought and she said so. It would allow them to get some information. She'd wanted to go but Padraig was insistent that, so close to the due date of the baby's arrival, it wasn't a good idea. That said, though, she nodded. "We've got a plan. Thank you, Kura. I feel calmer than I have since he disappeared." That was why they'd had this conversation, of course. Faith knew that Kura had got her distracted and her mind on something else, just for a little while. It had worked. "I should get home, but if anything happens, I'll let you know I promise." Faith smiled at her friend and put a hand on her arm. "The world is a better place for you, Kura and I am so grateful that you are my friend and I yours. Thank you. So much." Then she grinned and shook her head. "Over emotional pregnant woman alert." She grinned and made her way home feeling, it must be said, more clear and able to focus than she had since the 5th.

Kura nodded at the mention of using the Eclipse Portals to hasten mail delivery. "It could work, aye. Sendin' mail out of Rynmere would shave a solid chunk of time off alone. Not so much Viden, they're very nearly as remote as Scalvoris itself is." she said with a shrug. Viden was somewhat better positioned, but not enough to truly matter, and both areas were near to completely cut off in the coldest seasons as it was.

She smiled slightly at Faith's comment on her internal logic, but ultimately had to nod at her explanation of why she felt guilty. "When I was younger, I had a similar problem. No matter what I did, I felt that I hadn't done enough, that I could do more, do it faster, better, somethin'. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that I had limits. Honestly, I couldn't even tell you how to not feel that guilt." she said, shaking her head. In truth, part of her own problem had been that she was Mortalborn. Cally often said that Kura tended to take on more responsibility than she needed too, and if Kura was honest, her friend was probably right.

When Faith said she felt calmer, Kura grinned, knowing that Faith new the reason for the political discussion. She was a doctor, after all, and had probably done similar things to her patients. "It's a better place for you too, lass. I'm honored to have a friend like you." she said, gently hugging the shorter woman. "You get yourself home, lass. Overly emotional pregnant women need warmth and rest." she said, grinning at Faith as she left. When her friend had left, however, she frowned. It was certainly possible that Faith seeing Alexander was just her mind playing tricks on her, but Kura would keep an ear to the ground. If he was still around, hopefully she'd find him before he made another move. But just in case Alexander tried something, Kura waited a moment, then opened her door. "Phelan, follow her home. Don't let anyin' happen to her." she said. The wolf nodded and slipped out of the house, a silent and invisible shadow keeping Faith safe until she got home.

Your Review Is Complete!

“What would an ocean be without a monster lurking in the dark?
It would be like sleep without dreams.”
Oh Faith! That Pad deserves a donk on the head for leaving her during the pregnancy. Glad to see Kura feels about the same. Legitimate quest things or not. I feel her panic and concern here, and seriously all that combined with pregnancy hormones. Yup. No fun.

MAGIC CHICKEN!? I re read this whole conversation twice hahahahaha. Fond Halloween memories! I love Kura’s logical way of thinking and talking, and her fierce protectiveness of Faith. Sneaky familiar escort is sneaky lol.

Great read as always guys!
