Volker did not like the way Alissa stepped forward. Oor was frustrated; he wanted to appear and talk sense but...in front of such people and in such closed quarters it wasn't a wise idea. It was infuriating to watch the woman and his bonded; couldn't they see they were just feeding in to one another? One threatened with her hand on her blade, and Volker had responded in the same way. She might not have said anything, and Faith might have been holding her leash, but Volker's first language was body language and she was telegraphing threats like goddamn semaphore. Oor could see it plain as day. Her tense stance, hand on her weapon, unwavering eye contact. Volker had responded by putting his head down to cover his throat, returning her eye contact, and growling. A conversation without words. It put Volker on edge, and from the way his bonded was now refusing to put his back to anything other than toward a wall, the tension wasn't about to let up.
Volker's hiss was exactly what was on the tin; a declaration he would defend himself if Alissa pressed the matter. Humans and their ilk really were separated from what made them animals.
Come to think of it, the only one who seemed to instinctively 'get' what was going on was Nalin. The man didn't need to say anything. He just took Volker's hand quietly, and leaned himself into the other man. Volker responded in kind. He stepped closer to Nalin, squeezed his hand a little, and relaxed ever so slightly. Even though Nalin disparaged his own words and Lavender had a difficult time communicating with only her hands, Volker found himself in complete agreement of her words.
'I guess you're going to have to learn Handflap.' Oor told Volker. 'And you're going to need to be more careful about your body language. We both know that you attacking anyone in that facility means Nalin doesn't get any healing. I will say these morons need a crash course in how to read a person. They wouldn't last fifteen seconds in a Fracture.'
Volker shook his head a bit, and helped Nalin put his coat on.
He was expecting Nalin to pass out. It had all been very exhausting for him, and Volker was quite familar with the way a person's eyes rolled back into their head seconds before crumpling. Volker managed to catch him, curl him up to his chest as he had before, and walk him to the room. He'd undressed Nalin with care, and cuddled him up in the sheets. Not having anything else to do, Volker had quietly sat on the floor and rested his head next to Nalin. He must have dozed off himself, because he woke with a loud snort when Nalin woke.
"Hours." Volker said simply. He pressed his forehead to Nalin's shoulder in a show of affection. "What do you need?"
