TIme to cool down

The thing with Scalvoris, Faith thought to herself as she walked down the street, was that the extremes of heat were just so.. extreme. It was fantastically cold in the winter, incredibly hot in the summer. In typical Scalvoris fashion, also, the in between times tended to be filled with storms or rain or who knew what. There was certainly a lot of weather here. Turning to Alissa, her friend and self-appointed bodyguard, Faith smiled slightly. "You alright?" Alissa looked like the heat was getting to her, Faith thought and so she looked around and spotted where a local cafe had put seat outside in the shade of large umbrellas and she motioned over there. "We've got a break until I have to be in class. Shall we get a cool drink?" One of the boons from Famula's blessing was the fact that Faith never needed to feel the heat or the col and so she did tend to forget that she charged ahead without really care or concern for the heat.

So, they went to sit in the shade, in a quiet corner where they were largely unseen by others. Alissa chose that spot and Faith smiled at her slightly for doing so. Always the bodyguard, it had to be said. Always worrying about who could see them, where their vulnerable points were and so on. Faith found the notion to be exhausting, in all honesty and she sat, sipping some cool water and looked at Alissa with a critical, medics gaze. "You shouldn't let yourself get overheated. Heat is dangerous, you know." Alissa rolled her eyes and Faith raised an eyebrow. "When you warn me of dangers, you expect me to appreciate and respect your knowledge and expertise." It was a softly spoken point, made in a gentle way but was nonetheless true.

Alissa sighed and nodded. "You're right, I'm sorry. I'm tired." Faith shook her head. "There's nothing to apologise for. Are you not sleeping?" Alissa's eyes widened slightly and she looked at Faith somewhat disbelievingly. "I'm sleeping. Or I would be. I want to. But you? You! You don't sleep, you don't stop. You're... impossible!" Faith blinked a few times and looked at Alissa with a raised eyebrow. "I'm really not sure why my sleeping habits interrupt yours. I don't mean them to, certainly. You don't need to be with me all the time, Alissa, you should rest." Faith didn't want her tendency to sleep so little to be a concern for anyone, especially not her friend. She didn't point out that Alissa had taken the self-appointed role of bodyguard, Faith hadn't asked her to do it. Considering what her friend said, though, Faith thought about it and concluded that she could be more thoughtful, more considerate. With Padraig away, she was busier than ever and she understood that wasn't an easy to keep up with.

"I'll do better at considering you, as I should be. My apologies," Alissa shook her head. "You don't need to do that." Faith smiled at her. "You are my friend. Maybe I should actually hire a bodyguard," as Alissa's gaze shot up in surprise, Faith continued, "a second one. Someone you could work with." She could tell as soon as she put it that way that Alissa was happy with that. Faith smiled and was about to comment when there was some kind of a commotion in the street and then she heard someone calling for a medic or doctor.

Without pause, of course, Faith stood - and Alissa did the same. Moving, the two women went to see what the issue was.

TIme to cool down

Another day in Scalvoris. Another day of blazing heat in other words, at least as far as Ly'lan was concerned. She had, however, gotten more used to staying out of the sun's glare and it did help a bit. She had no plans for the day, simply wandering around town occasionally stopping in a quiet spot to observe people passing by or interesting looking spots or sites.

On one such pause, she decided she would do some light Attunement practice for the day. She picked out a man resting against the wall of an alley and focused her attention on him, taking deep, regular breaths in an attempt to meditate to help her do so. Slowly and one by one her other senses took a backseat to her mental sound image of the man's Frequency, the notes it was comprised of ringing in her head. Something seemed slightly off, however. Every other Frequency she had heard before had had a kind of sense to it, a melody of sorts. Parts of his seemed distorted or wrong, not in the sense that the notes themselves were strange, but in that they did not seem to fit the rest of the tune.

Finding this curious she left the sounds ringing at the back of her mind and focused her eyes on the man. She couldn't really see much at all strange about him, other than he was kind of slumped against the wall and not really doing much. He didn't seem to be looking around or anything, just kind of stood half upright in the shade.

Then he suddenly was no longer doing that, collapsing on the ground without seemingly putting up any resistance or making a sound other than a soft thump and a brief rustle of clothing. Concerned, Ly'lan left her own spot in the shade to check up on him, but her she really couldn't see anything wrong with him, other than that, well, there clearly was something wrong with him. She weighed her options and came to the conclusion that, there wasn't much she could do for him, aside from trying to call for help. So she did just that, walking out of the alley back into the street proper and calling out for a doctor or a medic.

They were sitting and chatting and then, there was a call out for a medic and Faith did not hesitate. She never would, of course, if someone needed help it was her instinct, duty and privilege to act. Alissa was more cautious, by nature and the short human woman and her tall biqaj friend moved to where the collapsed man was, they did it with different reasons and different thoughts of what might be happening. Faith, the dark haired human woman looked around and as she moved, she spoke to the woman who had called.

"What happened here?" Faith asked, although she kept walking as she did. If Ly'lan answered, Faith listened but if not, she didn't pause to ask. Instead, she knelt down in front of the collapsed man and she knelt next to him. Glancing up at the woman who had shouted for her, Faith smiled, slightly. "His breathing is fine, his heart rate, too." She was already pulling her medical kit out and when she looked at Ly'lan, the Sev'ryn might notice that her eyes were so pale a shade of grey they were almost silver but more than that they were tinged with a deep ruby red.

"Any detail is helpful, but I think he's just.. yes, it's the heat, I'd say." People were foolish in the heat, Faith knew. They over exerted themselves, didn't drink enough and were downright thoughtless. The heat was something which could, if given the chance, kill them. "I'd like to get him into the shade there and some water down him." He was certainly dehydrated, Faith recognised. Heat stroke, she thought.

"Preferably cool water and a cool flannel if such a thing exists in this heat," Faith added with a smile. "I'm Faith, thank you for calling. Heat exhaustion can be very tricky if not treated." She didn't stop to shake hands or any such thing, simply because she was working but she seemed to be very friendly and welcoming. The woman with her, the biqaj who watched but did not help, seemed far less so. Faith didn't mind, though, simply got on with her job."Are you new to Scalvoris?" Faith asked, checking the pulse of the man again.
