When the first pain hit, Lei'lira ignored it as best she could.. She had been having false contractions off and on for the past several trials, after all, and this wasn't her first pregnancy. So she paused, and breathed deeply until it faded, before going back to work, weeding in the vegetable patch. Several of the other women who lived in Beacon were helping out in the farm, and Lei'lira was quickly coming to enjoy the communal experience. Working on the farm gave her a sense of purpose. And working with the others made the work go faster. The light talk between them was pleasant as well as informative.

Lei'lira paused in her work as she watched two of the other women get into a contest over who could weed their row faster. Several children played nearby while their mothers' worked. It gave Lei'lira a strong feeling of "home," and belonging. After watching for a few trills, she looked around and saw that she had finished weeding her own row of tomatoes. So she stood and walked over to the next row before squatting once more, and grabbing every weed within reach.

Another pain tore through her abdomen, this one stronger than the one before it. It left her hunched over, and gasping with its intensity. Teia hurried over with a concerned look.

"Are you okay?" she asked worriedly.

Lei'lira grimaced at the lingering ache in her belly, but nodded.

"It's just more of the same false contractions I've been having for the past few trials, Teia. They're stronger than they have been in the past, but I'll be fine."

Teia didn't look completely convinced, but she accepted her friend's answer. They got back to work, but Teia made a note of keeping a close eye on Lei'lira. And when yet another contraction hit less than ten bits after the last, she was far less willing to believe that Lei'lira was "fine." Lei'lira started to try and insist that they keep working, but another of the women that were working the farm noticed Lei'lira's condition. Before Lei'lira quite knew what had had happened, Teia and the other woman had taken charge, and bustled Lei'lira to the clinic.
