"She can't be that bad?" Tina looked at Faith as the two of them made their way out to the farmland owned by Cally's, the restaurant that Faith owned and ran. Faith returned Tina's gaze and merely smiled; Tina let out a giggle and shook her head. "Lipstick? Padraig? Really?"

Faith lowered her head slightly, but her smile was genuine and she couldn't hide the wickedness in her expression; or more precisely she could, but did not. "She is a very lovely woman who is full of love." Faith said and meant it entirely, she just added the thought internally that Katie, Paraig's almost step-grandmother was also exhausting. "Besides, we're about to visit Paul and you know that he has eyes for you." Tina waved her hand away, dismissing the idea and Faith did not push it.

Arriving at the farmland, Paul was there and waved to them. "Hola! I hope you two are ready for some hard work! First harvest is coming and we need to make sure that we've got everything ready." Faith looked at Tina and the two of them smiled and nodded their heads. Paul waved them over and took them to the storage shed. "Now then, the trick with this is that we need the produce to be as fresh as it can be and to the restaurant as quick as it can. So, we prepare now and that means we're efficient then."

Faith had to admit, she approved. Paul had everything very organised, clearly labelled and evidently prepared. "The trick is to be completely prepared. Also, running this land for a restaurant is different than doing so for sale in the market. Why?"

Paul did this, Faith knew, so she remained quiet as Tina considered it. "Because the restaurant wants a much more slow and steady provision? So, smaller amounts but over a longer time and consistently fresh?"

"Exactly! So, we don't plant all at once, we plant on a rotation and we make sure that we always have things coming up. Now, this is really just starting to come to fruition, so come and look, I'll show you the plan."

He was going to show them the plan, Paul had said and when he did, Faith had to admit that a plan was exactly what it was. He had a detailed map of the land, the rotation of crops, the dates of planting per row, that kind of thing. It was quite a feat of logistics, Faith had to admit. More than that, considering how little she knew of agriculture on this scale, it made sense. Faith smiled at Paul and nodded her head, "I approve," she said with dry humour and he gave an easy grin.

"Good to know, you being the boss lady and all that." Paul's delivery was dry and Faith simply shook her head. He was a dreadful tease and she had started to grow used to it. Tina looked at the plan and her eyes widened. "Lets see how much the boss lady approves. Would you, boss?"

Faith was a little surprised at Paul saying that, but she did not mind and it was a good way of checking that his system worked as well as it seemed to. "So, these colours denote sections of the land, identified in the key to the side. They are in four sections, to identify the four groups of 123 trials. You've split each set of 123 trials into three groups, so that must be of.." A quick calculation and she nodded,"Fourty one trials per group. All split into which trial. This is very good. You've split them into eight groups of five, though. What happens on the trial which is left over?" Paul leaned over and showed her where one trial overlapped with another and Faith raised an eyebrow. It did that twice, for half a trial and that meant that the extra trial was accounted for. She nodded. "You've thought of everything."

"Good!" Paul smiled. "If we're going to be ready to start the harvest when we hope, in seven trials, then we need to do a final sweep, clearing between and around the plants and then spraying the leaves with this. It helps crop growth and we spray it every five trials. You ladies happy to help?"

Faith looked at Tina and the two young women, both of whom were so serious most of the time, grinned at each other and then turned to Paul and nodded.

"While we work," Tina said with a smile to them both, "I'll teach you a song about working in the fields?" Both Faith and Paul were happy to do that and so the three of them went outside, once Paul had given them all the equipment they would need.

Faith loved gardening, she kept her own garden in their home and she had to admit that she enjoyed being out here with Paul and Tina. The two of them were working together and Faith had purposely moved slightly away. There was an obvious attraction between the pair and Faith had no interest in getting in the way of that.

Paul had provided them with the equipment they would need. She cleared the debris from around the plant, putting it into the large basket Paul had given for that. Once she was done, that would go into the composter. She made her way down the line of plants, clearing each one and then, when that was done, she started to make her way back along the row, spraying leaves as she went. Frowning, Faith considered. "Paul, how much more land would we need to keep livestock?" He looked at her and rolled his eyes.

"Do you ever stop thinking about things?"

Faith chuckled and shook her head. "Not so far, no. I was just thinking that if we had livestock too, then we could have eggs and milk. A dairy herd. I don't need obscure meats. But also, I'd like a fish farm." Paul's expression was incredulous. "Or a fisherman on staff. That would work too. Fundamentally, I want us to be entirely self sufficient."

"So, a boat builder to teach these trainees how to build boats, building boats for our fishing vessels?" Immortals save him, Paul thought, but he was joking and she was more than half serious. She was certainly considering it.

"No. But apprenticeships, yes. Once we get fully settled here, we need to branch out. Maybe look at apprenticing in Egilrun, for example."

Paul looked at Faith and he shook his head. "Do you get this lady, Tina?"

"Yes. She's my friend. I just don't know when she sleeps."

Faith looked between the two of them and shook her head. "Don't you two start. I sleep plenty. I just want this to be the best it can be, is all." She nodded, earnest silver eyes turning to her employee and her friend. "There's not point doing something half hearted, is there?" Tina shook her head and chuckled and Paul threw his hands in the air.

"I'll look into it, boss lady, alright?"

Faith's silver eyes showed her pleasure at that answer. "Thank you, Paul. I appreciate it."

Faith and Tina got on with the plants and the crops. It was important to get the ground clear and that they did, then they sprayed the plants and pulled off any dead leaves and so on. Up the rows and down the rows. It was monotonous, repetitive work but then Faith recalled a lot of times when she had been given utterly pointless tasks to do as part of her training which were a lot more monotonous than this. So, she made her way through the plants and she and Tina worked together.

When they were done, Faith stretched her back, feeling the bones crunch as she did and she smiled at Tina. They made their way back in and Paul was sitting at the desk, head bent over the table. "Alright, boss lady, I think we can do it. Look."

Faith moved to sit next to him and lowered her head to the documents in front of him. "Which is the old land and the new?" He glanced at her and shook his head.

"You're awful, you know. Your sense of direction is non-existent."

"I know," Faith replied with a smile. "I consider it a blessing. This way, I never worry about where I'm going or where I've been. I just focus on where I am."

Paul chuckled and showed her what he meant and where. He pointed to the small squares which were houses, basic homes but nonetheless suitable. There would be four houses, he said, and that would be enough to house eight trainees. Faith considered it and nodded. "How much?"

"Three thousand nel, land and buildings."

Faith considered it for a moment and then nodded. "I'm confident that we'll make that much this season, but if we don't then I've got enough in the bank to cover it. Make it happen." Paul looked at her incredulously and Faith raised an eyebrow. "We'll cover it and if we don't I can. I have a friend who is very good with animals and is studying at the university. I'm sure she'll help at the very least." Faith was going to offer Amaris a job, in fact, and was hopeful that this was something Amaris might consider. Either way, Faith was sure that she could rely on their friend for help.

"How quickly?" Faith asked and Paul considered it.

"End of the season," he replied and Faith nodded. That would work and she was more than happy to take that time. So, she lowered her head back down and looked at the land. Which livestock was important, but whilst Paul sorted out the purchasing of the land and so on, Faith could take her time and work that out. When she was sure that everyone knew what they were doing, Faith was more than happy to go back with Tina to the restaurant and have something to eat together.
