NPCs
Name: Morgan Beresford
Race: Human
Date of Birth: Ymiden 26, Arc 657
Skills: 30 Blacksmithing, 30 Business Management, 10 Leadership, 10 Storytelling, 10 Logistics, 10 Strength

Appearance: Morgan has always been a striking man. Tall, strong, with a swept back mop of obsidian hair and bright green eyes. He has an easy smile and prominent laugh lines, and a voice that booms louder than his hammer. His straight nose and strong jaw were inherited by his son, as well as his stature, but the resemblances stop there. As he’s progressed in his age he seems to have grown a little smaller. Perhaps due to the weight he carries from loss of his wife, or his own poor constitution. Where once he was larger than life, he’s now a mere shell of his former self.

Personality: Morgan used to have a contagious sort of amiability. He liked to joke and tell overly-detailed stories. Although he did suffer from a somewhat short fuse and a particularly stubborn mindset, Morgan was a good husband. Sadly his parenting skills were barely mediocre—even less so after the death of his wife. He loves his son but struggled with barriers that were built by the circumstances of the relationship with his own father, and his current cantankerous attitude hasn’t helped. He is bitter in the face of his own death. Although disagreeable about the circumstances and deterioration of his body, he’s hopeful that perhaps he will see his late wife again soon.

Relationship to PC: Father
NPC Type: Personal, deceased

Quests
Name: n/a
Type: Starter
Status: Unstarted

Information: You find yourself approached at work by a man with a thin frame and sharp, beady eyes. He spends some time looking over your smithy while asking you questions about the weaponry you’ve made in the past and, for whatever reason, your ability to keep a secret. If you’re paying attention, you might notice that he seems to be quizzing you, as if trying to gauge both your skill and honesty through his casual conversation. Should you decide to play his game and answer his questions to his liking, he’ll offer you a job.

The man, who asks you to call him Shadow (a red flag if you've ever seen one), asks you to craft him a sword. Not a fancy sword, he says, but a sturdy sword with a sharp blade that will hold up and remain steady even if it sees a regular stream of fighting. He doesn’t say it out loud, but it almost seems as though he thinks he’s going to need it in future.

For compensation, he offers you a horse and saddle—one of the best horses in the region, in fact—or 100 gold nel, if you prefer. Do you accept the job and keep his unspoken request for privacy, or do you send him away and look for work that seems less… suspicious?

Information: Jonathan's father is found unresponsive in his home. Despite rushing to find a physician, nothing can be done to help. He passes away mere breaks later, surrounded by grieving family and a few close friends. Jon is tasked with overseeing the funeral arrangements and attending to his father's final affairs before finally laying him to rest with his mother.

A few trials later, while still trying to come to terms with the loss, his uncle visits with a large package and a letter addressed from his father. It is a message filled with regret, and on paper his father recounts how he wished things had been instead of how they were. In death he encourages his son to follow his own path in life instead of the one that had been previously forced upon him.
