It was party time. The ribbons were drawn up in the banner hall, the hearths were alight with sweetly smelling herbs, and the northerners had gathered from their respective villages through the icy wastelands to share in meat and ale for the solstice of winter time. Women, men, and children filled the wooden hall that was ornately carved with the designs of their ancestors and the legends of their heroes.

At the head of the three rows of long tables, the head of the tribes sat in watch of their people. There was the beastly Yanok with saber fangs and yellow eyes, head of fiery red braids that trailed down to his waist, and in front of him – the long table of similarly red-haired barbarians for the western hills. Their axes and greatswords rested alongside them, and they boisterously cheered each other on to drink from the ale-horns. Beside Yanok was four of his wives, and the other three had gotten placed at a table just to the side of him. He held the newest and youngest wife on his lap, playing with the beaded necklace around her and trying to feed her bread that she did not want because she was on a particular diet that involved no grains.

Roughly near the center, beside Yanok, the tribal leader of the east lakes sat. He had pale blond hair, long and silken, that framed his sculpted face. His outfit was, unlike Yanok’s furs and leathers, made of a gentle chiffon-like fabric that drifted through the air with every careful movement. His ears were pointed and long, with many earrings of silver and gold adorning them. His skin housed the waters of the region he came from, a perpetual motion of crystalline waters moving just underneath the transparent surface. Kiraz looked at his people, the pointy-eared lake mages, who minded their business while eating and discussing all sort of subjects. A few glanced over to the flame-haired Yanoks, though not with discomfort, but rather an endearing attraction.

In a few breaks, they would all cross over and intermingle tables as was custom.

The third leader of the tribes, Dlaw, ruled the central region valley and forest, was at the end of the table.

Kiraz looked over at Dlaw. He smiled slightly and asked, “Where is your wife, my old friend?”

Re: [Emea] Winter Solstice

There was a great feast tonight, there was many a time to be had. The fiery beast of men the Yanok had joined in on this occasion. Along with the more refined people of the lakes. The gathering was custom for all to gather. Dlaw's people the ones of the forest and Valley of the center, The Finskiy Tribe. His people partook in the celebration, it was a time of sharing and comradery. Though Dlaw seemed off today, his long grey beard and hair seemed to not be fixed the ways he would normally. He was the eldest at this gathering by a number. Though his body did not show his age, he had mucles that were sculpted by hard work is whole life. The chair beside him was empty, and the man seemed almost alone at the time.

Kiraz broke the loneliness by speaking first, asking something that may dampen the mood for many. "Where is your wife, my old friend?"

The Finskiy Tribe seemed to quiet down at the mention. Each one of them had their deep blue eyes saddened by the mention. Dlaw raised his hand to his fellow tribesmen, as a sign that nothing was wrong. The tribe began to pick back up again, slowly at first getting back into the festivities. Dlaw put on his best smile, it was a saddened one that he could not hide. "She is waiting for me, for when I go to the other side as well." His wife had passed not to long ago, the tribe was still morning the loss. As Dlaw only took one wife as a Finskiy tradition, she had been with him since his twentieth arc. The man's face kept strong though, as he asked the question towards Kiraz. "How are things with you, my friend?" It was spoken in a soft tone, something to move the subject along.

Kiraz noticed the sadness among the Finskiy Tribe, and the empty chair, and when he heard the confirmation, he bowed his head in reverence. He said, “I am sorry to hear that, my dear Dlaw. May she be merry in her time of wait in the halls of beyond.” His blue eyes flickered to look at Yanok, who seemed about ready to offer one of his wives to their fellow tribesleader, but he held up a hand. It would be a rude offer, for the Finskiy only kept one woman through their many years unlike the Yanok who kept many. Kiraz’s people of the lake, however, never kept any at all. They freely floated about, unattached through their entire lives with only the glimmer of what might be recognizable as intimate bonds with man or woman.

“The lakes are clear, and the winds are sweet,” he answered the question, easily allowing for the subject to move on to possibly better topics. “The tadlings will hatch upon our return and the new generation of our people shall rise to the surface.”

He lifted a curved horn and took a small drink of ale, then offered to pour some for Dlaw. Kiraz said, “What of your people? How do they fare? Have the lands in the valley and forest proven fertile for the coming cycle? I hear tell of those who visit along the borders of our rivers that the Finskiy aim to build… what was it called again…” He glanced over to a nearby Person of the Lake who clarified: “Homes.”

“Yes, homes, that’s it. What are these… homes?” asked Kiraz, curious.

Re: [Emea] Winter Solstice

Dlaw listened to how the lake has been doing, and smiled. He had visited the lakes in the past, it brought back many memories of the times back when. He use to move from each of the lands to ensure that they were well. That was back when his hair was darker, and his bones ached less. He was then reminded of how their people came forward into this world. It was odd, but things are how they are. "It is good to hear that, may the next generation prosper in the future."

Moving the glass nearby, Dlaw allowed the drink to pour. Drinking the beverage he listened to the questions being asked, and even of the project of his son. Who was going to arrive soon enough. "My people have been doing wonderfully, our lands have been rich in game, and in fruits." Dlaw looked to his people with a smile, he was proud of them as they all did so well.

With the subject of homes Dlaw had to think for a moment. "Yes... the homes or rather my son's project." He smiled and took a drink from his cup. "It was an idea he gotten from traveling south." He looked into his glass and smiled. "He has quite the head on his shoulders, he will make a fine leader." He gave a soft chuckle and looked towards Yanok. "He might be able to out fight you as well, might want to watch yourself next tournament." Dlaw was proud of his son, there was no hiding it.

A new arrival had entered, with a few others. It was Dlaw's son and his close friends. They were bringing in a large beast from the forest, as this would be the main course for the festivities. The Finskiy were the ones to bring the meal, and always it was the next in line who hunted it. This time Dlaw's son had brought something special, It was a Dolance Lamb, The creature was larger then one of the tables. These beast migrated from the south from time to time, but never one of this size. This was a good sign to all.

Kiraz smiled at the good news to follow. For when any of the tribes did well, the entire land prospered. It was in all of their interests to care for their people to the best of their respective abilities. No one benefitted from loss or destruction. The Lake-man poured the drink for his old friend and smiled, revealing his razor-sharp teeth. He asked about the homes soon after, curious about the new concept.

“Ah yes, your son,” chuckled Kiraz softly. Dlaw’s son was an ambitious and bold Finskiy. From the stories that made it to the lakes, he rather admired the young man. He’d never had the courage himself to travel south, remaining mostly in the eastern waters where his people dwelled. He glanced over to Yanok, then teased in support of his friend’s love for his son, “Yes, Yanok, you best spend more time swinging around a sword rather than swinging around…”

Kiraz looked at the girl on the man’s lap, then leaned in and gently asked, “I’m sorry, dear, what was your name again?”

Whatever it was, it didn’t matter. By next season, Yanok would have a new one on his lap. As all barbarians of the western hills were, they were insatiable when it came to collecting spouses. He could hardly imagine such a thing, himself. It was much too different than the ways of the water. Kiraz turned his gaze to the arrival of Dlaw’s son and entourage.

His eyes widened at sight of the large forest beast to feed the hall. Kiraz stood from his seat and clapped his hands together in a respective salute to the hunters. His people followed in suit, standing, and clapping their hands together in respectful greeting for it. The Yanok clattered about, and hollered at the sight of the Dolance Lamb.

“What a feat!” said Kiraz, loud enough for the entire hall to hear. He gestured toward Dlaw and said, “Would you care to say a few words during the dressing ceremony?”

Re: [Emea] Winter Solstice

The praising from the hall was great, this truly was a great moment. The way forward to the future seemed brighter by this. The old man had a slight flush, but it was not compared to his son. The young man was almost a berry at the praise. His friend gestured toward Dlaw asking if he would like to say a few words.

Dlaw rose from his chair, as some of the red-haired barbarians began to take the animal. It was their job to cook the fest, as they collected many of the herbs for the land. Once he stood, Dlaw walked over to his son with a smile. He embraced him before turning to the gathered tribes. "Some of you may have heard of my son. How he has traveled to the southern lands, and even some of his adventures." Dlaw held his son's shoulder shacking him. "Almost all of you know I am proud of this boy." The smile turned flat. "And still you also learned of the passing of my wife, his mother. It was a great loss for the tribe." Dlaw removed a golden bracelet from his wrist. "Though the future seems to be bright. The beast is a wondrous sign." The son seemed to have his eyes widen along with the rest of the Finskiy. Dlaw slowly placed the golden bracelet onto his son's wrist. "That is why. I would like to announce my son to be the head of the Finskiy. Let him live as long as I have, and prosper for every sunrise."

Dlaw's son was almost hesitate, this was a major moment and he was not ready. He looked around confused, as Dlaw went to sit back down. Dlaw sat down at the table though not at the head. This was a moment that was bound to come, but even now it seemed unreal to him. "I am Dlace... And I am..." He swallowed before speaking again. "I am the new leader of the Finskiy." The cheers went louder from the Tribesmen, who also shook Dlaw in his seat. Dlace slowly went to the head of the table, sitting down slowly, next to him sat a beautiful young lady, who seemed to be blushing more then Dlace.

Re: [Emea] Winter Solstice

It was sweet moment and would prove to be the highlight of the Solstice celebration. Kiraz sat down, to watch Dlaw speak about his son and he smiled at the beauty of it all. The turning of time, the passage of leadership from father to son, the remembrance of a mother lost. He sighed in a quiet way, and the Lake-man’s eyes watered when the golden bracelet was moved to Dlace’s wrist. Kiraz sniffled, his skin leaking with the water and many of his people did as well, puddles forming at their feet. It would be reabsorbed but for the moment, they allowed themselves the vulnerability to cry at such a celebratory moment.

It were certain times like these that made Kiraz wonder what it would be like to have the sort of relations that the other two men did: of a partner and of children, offspring. But that was not the way of the Lakes or Rivers. They were born of the foam and algae, risen with each new year, and no one needed to join to make them, and no individual stood as parent or child to each other. They were all equally friends, at the closest, or perhaps, all family. He supposed that made more sense. They all shared the same water through their veins after all.

Kiraz clapped, happily, for the moment, then paused when the boy – the new leader of Finskiy – started to speak. It was sweet, though simple. Many cheered and Kiraz led his tribe in standing again to pay respect. His gaze drifted to watch the boy join them at the table alongside a lovely Finskiy woman.

“I am pleased to have you here with us, Dlace,” he said. “I remember it like only last solstice when your father’s father did much the same with him. You will make him proud, your people prosperous, and know, that I, Kiraz of the Eastern Waters, shall always be your friend.”

He bowed lowly, his long blond hair gliding off his shoulders to hang around his face. The slightest twitch showed in his long pointed ears. He smiled at the young man, then looked at Dlaw. He placed a hand on the old man’s shoulder and said, “It will pain me to see you move on, my dear ally. You were a wonderful ruler of great heart and honor. Integrity and strength.”

Kiraz gestured widely over the hall and he said in an echoing boom of a voice, “Let us not only celebrate this great feast that has come from the south due to the prowess of the Finksky Dlace, or his rightful inheritance as leader of his Tribe, but also to celebrate our beloved Dlaw and the memory of his wife and all they have done for us in the many decades past.”

He lifted a horn, bowed his head toward Dlaw, then said, “To you, my dear old friend. May you find peace in your remaining life until you pass on to reunite with your wife."

Re: [Emea] Winter Solstice

Dlaw was quite happy with how events turned out, he wondered how his wife would think of this. She always said that Dlaw should step down, that he was getting to old for all the work. She was always the one who came up with ideas, lucky for Dlace he got her brains. The old man smiled in his drink after the cheers. He would drink to a great many things tonight. The oldest of the leaders Kiraz held the toast wonderfully. Yanok seemed to drink a whole barrel of ale, he was in good spirits. With Dlace's status change Yanok was no longer the youngest of the leaders, this must of made him feel proud he outlasted one of them.

Soon enough the large meal was presented to the tribes. The meal would feed the tribes on its own, even without the garnishings of vegetables and fruits. The meat was soft and filling, it was something that someone would remember their whole life. Dlaw spoke to his old friend with one last smile. "I will come to visit your waters again, hope you dont mind." The old man was wanting to bring back memory of the old days. He could leave his tribe with his son without much issue now. Now he just wanted to remember all the good times he had.

The group ate their fill, and many of the people congratulated both Dlaw and Dlace for everything. Soon enough everyone was drunk and happy, Dlaw was always a more of a competitive drunk. This time he decided to challenge Yanok to arm wrestling. The man bellowed in laughter, he may of been the only one not drunk. The man accepted the challenge though. Both men struggled with the wrestling match, though it seemed Yanok had the advantage. That was until Dlaw gripped into his hand, causing a bit of pain. That gave him just enough time to win the match. The two laughed, and embarrassed each other. This was going to be the last time he was at the celebration. As in the coming moons, Dlaw passed. He managed to visit each of the lands, seeing the spawning of the new generation of the lake. Even seeing the Yanok giving a rare moment of not having a wedding. He even saw the first large building go up in the valley, it was made of stone and wood. The building looked to last the test of time.

The lands would morn the loss, but soon they would move on. Dlace was a fine leader, Who eventually built a city in the valley. That city was named Dlaw, after his late father. The lands would live in peace...

Wald woke that night with a proud feeling, it was quite odd as he could not figure out why.
