44th Trial of Ymiden, Arc 716
Warm beams of sunlight shone through the small opening of the tree dwelling and onto the sleeping form of Niv, who began to gently rouse from her peaceful slumber. The Tunawa had slowly migrated from her bed and into the comfy nest of her friend Skret the flying squirrel, whom Niv shared a home with. Niv was careful as she wiggled her way free from her furry friends grasp without waking them. Niv’s efforts were all for nothing as skret was stirred awake regargless with silent yawn. Skrets looked up at Niv with her sleepy black orbs and made a few quiet chirps as if to say “good morning Niv, Sleep well?”
Niv replied with a nod of the head a cheerful squeak to say “Yes I slept well” Niv knelt down and stroked Skret’s smooth scalp and added “I hope you did too”
Niv gathered her things for her trip out as she waited for her roommate to become bright eyed and bushy tailed. Niv wanted to go out to collect herbs so she took her small woven sling bag which held her prized reverence book of herbs and of course her sling staff for defence. The last thing she needed was the riding saddle which belonged to Niv’s cockatoo friend who lived in the higher branches of the tree. Patcha was a kind soul who offered to fly Niv around, in return Niv did her best to make her friend feel appreciated.
Niv peaked her tiny head out the entrance and called out an enthusiastic “Caakaa!” to get the bird attention. An echo from above was heard only moments later and not long after that, a white cockatoo came souring down to the branch in front of Niv. The bird bobbed up and down to show it’s excitement, then unfurled it’s wings and whistled. It was obvious to the tunawa what her friend wanted and she was more than willing to deliver. Niv stepped out on to the branch and struck a dynamic pose; one arm outstretched to the sky, the other towards the ground and her legs crossing each other with natural poise. She looked up at her hand then lowered it to look at Patcha who continued to bob up and down eagerly.
Niv opened her mouth and out came the sweet chirping of a song bird, a nightingale to be precise. Unlike the bird she mimicked however, Niv did her best to carry a melody, a cheerful one with just the right amount of repetition. Niv accompanied her song with some calculated spins and a dance that involved rhythmically flapping her arms as if they were wings. When her little performance was done she gave a bow and Patcha followed suit.
Patcha turned his back to Niv and started hopping up and down with a few squawks as if to say get on my back. Niv rushed to grab the saddle, the single saddle bag tied to the back and the other belongings she intended to bring. The Tunawa pushed the saddle onto the large birds back and did up the latches. Patcha lowered his head so Niv could climb aboard, and she did so with only a bit of difficulty because of her cumbersome sling staff.
“I’ll be back later” Niv chirped back at Skret, who always seemed to become suddenly reserved whenever Patcha was around, or really anyone for that matter. Niv supposed it was just the nature of a squirrel in the forest, but most of the other squirrels were very daring so that couldn’t be it. Skret chirped a reserved little squeak before Patcha took off towards the skies.
As the too soared through the trees at a steady speed, Niv coaxed the route out with her chirps and caws to give Patcha direction. They were headed out of Magani since the marsh covering the floor didn’t house the type of herbs she was looking for. It was when they got near the borders of the city that the cries of desperation caught Niv’s attention. She instructed Patcha to follow the sound and they quickly found the sobbing Tunawa couple.
“Whats the matter?” Niv asked them.
“We can’t find our sapling, we’ve looked everywhere he could be..We’re afraid he went out of the city” The father explained in dread.
“Don’t worry Niv is up to the task!” She shouted before she set out to look for the lost child.
She flew low in the forest and after a careful search, she found a fallen toy abandoned on the forest floor. It wasn’t a good sign and fear began to enter Niv’s core.
