60 Saun, Arc 716

“Take a deep breath in,” A bald headed man instructed to a class of scattered individuals. He moved his hands towards his chest slowly with his eyes closed and focused. “Then exhale slowly.” He pushed outward against an invisible barrier, while he exhaled with unnecessary vigour.

Niv was in the front row of the class, looking up at the man and doing her best to mimic everything she saw. The Tunawa's brow was stained and her mouth held a gape as she tried to understand how the mans breath magic worked. As Niv let her body fill up with air and slowly deflate as instructed, she noticed herself self feeling more relaxed. Her strained brow would shift back to its normal position and her shoulders would loosen but only as long as she didn’t think about it too much.

“Inhale and touch your toes keeping your feet shoulder with apart,” The man demonstrated easily, touching his toes with little resistance. “Go only as far as you’re comfortable with. This isn’t a competition and there will be no judgement in this room.”

Niv took the time to make sure her feet lined up with her shoulders, stopping to make a few adjustments until it was perfect. She then slowly leaned forward and immediately felt her bark strain in an uncomfortable but oddly satisfying way. Despite what the instructor said she couldn’t help frowning at her progress compared to his. The Tunawa shot a quick glance to the right and saw a slightly curvy woman with frizzy red hair who also preformed with ease. Niv frowned again before she glanced to the left to witness a Mer man practically reach through his spread legs towards the other side.
“Show off.” Niv mumbled to herself in her native tongue.

“Now inhale as you move into the downward dog.” The Man said as he seamlessly shifted from a standing position into an arch position held up only by his hands and feet.. Niv’s head jolted back to look at the instructor in panic before awkwardly stumbling into next position, forgetting to breath in the process.
“Now ease down into the Cobra and exhale.” The instructor dove forward with his chest like he was about to scoop up a fish from the water and then arched his back with his face to the ceiling. Niv tried to do the same but ended up driving her face into the carpeted ground in her haste. The Tunawa tried to play it off like it was intentional, moving her head quickly towards the ceiling. It didn’t matter as she could still feel eyes burning into her like fiery rays of judgement at her ineptitude. Niv’s eyes darted from the instructor to the open door of the studio, as she contemplated leaving out of embarrassment. The voices telling her to give up had more compelling arguments, so Niv scurried out the door as the entire class continued to bend themselves into pretzels.

Niv hesitantly peeked back in the room to see if anyone noticed, if they did there was no sign of it. They were all ether looking at the instructor or at the ceiling. Niv breathed a sigh of relief and turned back around only to stumble in surprise at the sudden appearance of feet stomping towards her. Before Niv could attempt any type of evasion, the feet stopped.
“Hello down there, hope I didn’t startle you.” A pleasant voice bellowed from above.
“Oh noes I not been startled” Niv lied
“Good to know, Anyway I hope you don’t mind if I ask you for a favour.”
Niv looked up at the source of the voice, to see a brown haired man with prominent laugh lines and a large round nose.
“Wat dat be?” Niv eyebrows strained slightly as she continued to gaze up at the man, a bit of hesitation could be heard in her voice.
“Well there is a poison found in a small spider thats quite deadly but we believe it might cure a very deadly disease. Its dangerous task for just about anyone, except for a Tunawa of course. There will be compensation for your work but if you happen to be busy I could-“
“No I will do dis. Wat dis spider look like?”
“Good question, just a moment” The man knelt down and began rummaging through his bag. After a few quick moments of searching he pulled out a book and flipped its pages until he landed on the right one. The man turned the book around to show Niv it’s contents, On the page was an illustration of a compact spider that appeared to have an armoured exoskeleton. What Niv first thought were small stubbly legs were revealed to be its powerful fangs upon closer inspection.
“Its a burrowing spider, and is quite small. Its called the black blossom because it looks like a flower.”
Niv tilted her head at the drawing and raised an eyebrow.
“strange flower..”
“the spider can be found in the parks with in the city but is far more common in the Willow Woods. look for tiny holes in the ground and do your best to lure them out.”
The man rummaged though his bag once more and pulled out a small vile, it was likely the smallest he could find. “Use this to get a sample of their venom, we don’t need much but we do need the actual venom and not just a Tunawa flower. will that be a problem?”
“I not dink so.” Niv shrugged her shoulders, she didn’t think it would really be very hard to get some venom from a tiny spider. She out stretched her arms to receive the corked vile. It was small enough that the man could only hold it between his finger tips but Niv still needed both hands to grasp it.
The man noticed that the meditation class was coming to and end and realized they were in the way of traffic so he did his best to rap things up.
“Well then be on your way and good luck to you little one.” He nodded as he got his things together and went on his way.

The Spiders Bite

Image
Niv called her mount Patcha and took a short flight to the edge of the Willow Woods. After landing on a large boulder, Niv dismounted and stroked her birds feathery neck before softly thanking him and saying goodbye. The Willow woods was no place for Patcha, Niv wasn’t likely to be eaten but Patcha was practically a delicacy who’s white feathers stuck out like a sore thumb in the dingy woods. Patcha got the message and took to the sky, leaving Niv to her own devices.

With the corked vile held under one arm, Niv slid down the boulder and into the tall grass below. She took a deep breath to find her courage before venturing into the dark wood.

Niv stayed to the ground looking for any sign that a spider might be around. What she mostly found instead
was poisonous greenery and shrooms that stood in her way. She nibbled on the three leaves of a poison ivy plant and stuffed a whole top of a Conocybe filaris mushroom. Niv had notes in her book telling how deadly if humans ate them, poison ivy inparticular was damaging to even touch. The Tunawa could feel her body sprouting antidotes as the poisons stirred inside of her.

She had been looking through the forest for several breaks with no signs of the creature Niv sought. That was until she leapt over a tree root and fell down a hole on the other side. She didn’t fall very far before running right into the The little devil she'd been desperately looking for. The Nimble spider was quick to launch its powerful fangs directly into Niv’s stomach causing the tunawa to scream in agony as a peircing burn of pain spread throughout her body. She tried in vain to pull the strong fangs from her torso but they wouldn’t budge, Niv resorted instead to hitting the creature with the vile. The spider was more stubborn than Niv anticipated and took each blow without flinching. It seemed to Niv that her best plan was to act like a usual victim and go limp to trick the spider into letting his fangs free. Niv tried to make it as convincing as possible despite the burning venom coursing through her thin body. She slowly relaxed her body and went stiff as if she’d been paralyzed, she knew it was working when the fangs began to stir and leave her body. The moment they had left Niv grasped the vile again and shoved it forcefully onto one of the creatures fangs, then gave it a swift knee to the thorax. In alarm the spider lunged again squirting its venom out of its fangs, one shooting at Niv the other into the vile. When Niv felt she’d gathered enough, she kicked the strong spider again with both legs. The spider flew back at the kick and Niv quickly corked the vile and ran out of the tunnel while clutching her gaping wound with her other hand.

“Wat a rude spider, dat not how you greet guests in home.” Niv grumbled as she looked at the venom she’d managed to collect from a safe distance. There was a decent amount but not as much as she’d hoped, at least she knew where to find more if it was needed. She slowly made her way back, glad that she would be able to an interracial part in curing a horrible poison.

Comment: Minor spelling mistake of vile instead of vial, but a spellchecker wouldn't catch that since it's technically a word. Additional minor spelling error with interracial, but everything else is good. I loved this thread. While it was short, I enjoyed seeing Niv's envy in yoga class (ugh, haven't we all been there) and her fight with the spider. It was a great expression of how the Tunawa are unique and helpful. Don't forget to add your loot to your ledger.
