Mastemyr Kaidonis
》 Son of Aelig 《

Mastemyr prowled down the hallway and into the courtroom, a throw of excited fairies trailing along with him. One heavy paw before the other, his golden eyes roamed around the expansive chamber as the chaos of preparation rested upon his shoulders. Somewhat. There were others, non-fairies, who were offering aid with a bit less zeal. In the room, he could feel the thrumming buzz and leaned into it, but it fed him nothing. Not all chaos was crisis, after all.

However...

A handful of the fairies that were more high strung than the others were panicking from their choices, and would have smiled if he was physically capable of it. They zipped back and forth in the air, interest locked on their little frames. He took a step forward, and rose up on his hind legs to put his face at their level. Hot breath huffed from his nose and he closed his eyes, taking in the collection of their smells. It wasn't the skulking, manipulating magic of mortal mages, it was fresh. Earthy. Wild.

Mmmm... He missed Emea. He missed Jesnine.

Noticing his interest, one of the fairies landed in front of him and he dropped down as others wove flowers in his fur. This one smelled like herbal tea and electricity, and he purred, burying his nose against their frame. A little nudge and the fairy's wings fluttered until he knocked the creature on it's butt, Mastemyr's nose, cheeks, whiskers rubbing up and down their body as he traded scents. Delicious. A tiny hand reached up to scratch him under the chin and the intensity of his purring increased tenfold.

Someone patted his paw, "Come! We have a special seat for you!"

Another special treatment?

Flower necklaces swung as he was led forward, leaving the fairy on the ground without much thought, his massive paws stepping over his little friend. The others led him and they passed a table with more streamers draped about with colorful madness. It seemed another from the mortal realm had taken notice, and was directing their choice in style, which Mastemyr felt a bit presumptuous. Who was to come into another's home and tell them how to decorate? 'Maybe it's for the best?'

Mastemyr contemplated this, stopping before a seat made of moonlight, lined with emeralds and topped with a thick cushion. He circled it once and pinched his eyes closed. A bit of effort, the Mortalborn drew a pinprick of power, opening his eyes so that his right one matched the green stones. He was pleased, and his body shifted again, suddenly a tall man with wildflowers woven in black hair and teeth a bit too sharp. Necklace after necklace of floral arrangement was draped across his bare chest and when he grinned, he looked as if he held a secret, "Lovely." Mastemyr turned and sat down, running his hands down the armrest, "When should I ring the bell?"

"When everything is ready."

He glanced up at the various seats of honor, "Who will sit upon the others?"

One of the fairies gave him a curious look, "The Kings and Queens."

Obviously.

Four other seats were lined up, and he tried to remember what he knew of fairies. There were courts, but he couldn't remember them all. Did they represent the four seasons of Idalos? Winter, summer, spring and fall? Yaralon only had two. Hot and Cold. Or as Mastemyr called it - Rainy and Not-As-Rainy. He tapped his chin in thought as bunnies began to flood the room.

He watched their little bodies hop across the floor, rising on back legs to nibble at decorative plants. Breath tightening, he stared at them without blinking, "Why are there rabbits here?" He wasn't angry, but a tension had entered his body.

"Because all citizens in our realm deserve a voice in its governing."

"Diplomatic," he wasn't disappointed, but how could he focus? How could he behave as he had sworn? Mastemyr chewed his lip, cut the skin and tasted blood. He could smell them, hear their little feet scuffle across the floor. They looked so... delectable. "I'll be good. I'll be good. Good. Good. Good. Good-" The word stuck to his tongue, refused to let go and he gave another shake of his head to loosen the sticky thought. A rabbit came hoping from the corner of his vision and he launched himself to his feet as fast as any perfect predator, a chattering sound crackling from the back of his throat, as he slid into a crouch. He prowled forward, heart beat picking up and he watched their long ears twitch, clutching his clawed hands to his chest, with voice a breathy whisper, "I promised."

Green had sent him off on his way but not in time. Not as the bunnies had decided they would come see what all the fuss outside was about - and then proceed to nibble on anything edible in sight. Which was most of the decorations and all that they could reach for. Bae’s brows furrowed. That...wasn’t good. Was it? They were, in a way, being cared for — fed — and that was part of what he was supposed to do, right? But they were eating the decorations. The decorations!

He should not have been put in charge for this. A terrible idea, and now the consequences of it were evident in the party guests feasting on what was supposed to be for the festivities to come. He felt his face warm all the way to his neck, ears burning as tears began to blur his vision. He wasn’t doing a very good job of this. Not at all. Green would be upset and the kings and queens and Jesine would be so very disappointed. Angry, even. They’d be like his mother, with her hard looks and cold words. Lips quivering, he attempted moving the bunnies away from the floral accents of the great hall, only for them to hop right back or just out of reach.

Thysbae balled his hands up at his side, a mix of emotions rooting him in place while he turned his head from nibbling creature to another. But there was more to this disaster as a not-man not-cat seemed to advance on the rabbits, creeping slow. The mortal born could not hear what the man-cat, not-man-cat was saying but there was already so much happening. He was going to eat them and then that would be it. There would be dead bunnies and a ruined great hall all because he couldn’t do the one job tasked to him.

“No!”

Voice shrill and strained with tears, he put himself between the rabbits and the not-man-not-cat. “No! Please don’t do it!” He hadn’t really thought it through, not really. Just stop him from eating the bunnies and at least one thing would be done right.

The Great Hall of The Fairy Court
Thysbae, Mastemyr, Cervantez

The glorious Great Hall of the Fairy Court, grown in a massive tree, had become busy with life. Plants, unknown and known, grew along the wooden pillars and polished floors. Grass blades of aqua, spring-green, and periwinkle slid forth through the fibers of the colorful blue carpets. Buzzing sounded through-out the hall and one merely only needed to look around to realize it was the fairies themselves as they flitted from one room to the next in hurry to prepare for court.

Some fairies sang, some fairies whispered to each other, some followed the unusual visitors who’d come to help, and others blatantly stared in awe-struck witness of the honored guest.

It was the first Court in many generations, after all, and thus, Mastemyr was the first honored guest that the younger fairies had ever seen. For these fairies, it was the first time they’d ever seen someone sit in the nocturnal throne. An esteemed dreamer, and lover of Jesine, got to sit along with the other four seats of fairy royalty... it reminded them of the legends that the elder fairies used to prattle on about.

Aromas wafted from the kitchen, of acorn pudding and blueberry cakes, even a faint scent of fresh fern salad mixed in. A group of fairies bustled out with trays made from bark, all kinds of berries piled high into pyramids on top. Butterflies hovered nearby, and when one of the raspberries rolled onto the floor, the butterflies swarmed it to feed from the sugar.

Bunnies innocently nibbled at the growing plants, more than happy to keep the blades of grass down.

When Cervantez laughed, a nearby group of fairies laughed along with him. Where his mortal voice was low, their laughter chimed like tiny bells shaken along a rein.

The few fairies followed him as he spruced up the decorations somehow, someway. Of course, without explicit directions given, they only continued to add more color, more brightness, more vivid and exuberant decorations until blossomed flowers stuck out of the walls and the air was filled with various colored spores that’d make any sensitive-nosed person sneeze from the heavy perfume scents.

Fixed was such a subjective term after all, and without any communication of the verbal sort, they had no idea that’s what the Lothar intended to do. For the fairies, they assumed his laughter meant approval, and his enthusiasm to continue decorating could only mean More!

Eventually, however, Cervantez went to the doors and he looked at them.

And the doors curiously looked back at him.

Yes, though they had no eyes, the doors radiated with awareness. As he investigated them, they investigated him in turn, and he could feel each door scanning and exploring through his very mind and soul, and every dream he’d ever had…

Meanwhile, Thysbae attempted to corral the bunnies. The bunnies, however, took this to mean that he wanted to play. They hopped around. Their ears flopped and straightened. Their little noses twitched. They surrounded Thysbae, their new best friend, and brought him leaves, stalks of grass, and reeds so that he might also join in their feast.

But Thysbae had noticed something that the bunnies hadn't, and that was the way Mastemyr yearned and chattered in a predatory crouch.

“No!”

Thysbae’s voice echoed through the Great Hall.

Once he’d spoken it, it repeated in a BOOM that rattled the foundation of the Great Tree:

NO!

All his fears, all his thoughts rushed through the powerful word. Cervantez could see it in a flash of vision, an image made real over their surroundings. Everyone in the Hall could see it, together, in a shared vision as real as the colorful streamers and happy preparations before:

A ruined Great Hall. Decorations in flame. Dead bunnies. Screeching. The cries of fairies. And above it all, in a mess of crushed flowers and broken crystal at his feet, Mastemyr with fur as black as the darkest night, and a great grin of sharp pearly teeth that sought the blood of rabbits and fairies alike.

For a few trills, it seemed this was real. It seemed to have happened. Cervantez saw it. Thysbae saw it. The fairies all saw it.

And Thysbae’s voice sounded again in that booming echo:

NO!

The horrific vision faded.

The fairies trembled. Some of the younger ones fled from the Hall entirely. They zoomed past Cervantez, and through the doors. The doors did not open, but rather, the fairies went directly through like ghosts through walls.

The two mortalborns faced each other. Chaos rammed into illusion, rippled outward through their exchange. The world turned dull and colorless around them.

Thysbae pleaded against Mastemyr.

And somewhere, elsewhere but not as far away as one might guess, Aelig stirred.

Beneath and above, all around yet from nowhere, their father echoed in perfect mockery:

ᵢ’ₗₗ ᵦₑ 𝓰ₒₒ𝒹. ᵢ ₚᵣₒₘᵢₛₑ𝒹. ᵢ’ₗₗ ᵦₑ 𝓰ₒₒ𝒹. Gₒₒ𝒹. Gₒₒ𝒹. Gₒₒ𝒹. Gₒₒ𝒹₋ ₙₒ! ₙₒ! ₚₗₑₐₛₑ 𝒹ₒₙ’ₜ 𝒹ₒ ᵢₜ!

An unseen woman screamed.

In a paradoxical burst of black light, shadows jutted forth from the nocturnal throne. They wrapped around Mastemyr, coated him in their darkness, and slid backward until he disappeared - as if absorbed by the throne itself.

A low hum of silence sounded through the Great Hall.

Even the bunnies had stopped eating… well except for a very fat orange rabbit known as Ambassador Fluffster who kept chewing on a leaf while watching the whole thing from a side-eye.

Mastemyr was gone.

Vivid color returned.

Thysbae remained.

Crisis, averted.

The Blue
Rabu, Kisaik

“Outside, to your world,” answered Queen Cerulean to Rabu’s question as to where she’d sent the Red mortal. She shook her head and said, “No need to fear.”

The light enveloped the two items, fusing them, and created a perfect gift for King Scarlet.

Cerulean’s blue eyes glanced between the Tunawa as Rabu nervously stammered, blushed, and then went quiet. Before she said anything, Kisaik bowed and took over the conversation for his bashful partner. A small smile lifted Cerulean’s lips.

“You are generous friends. I accept your invitation on behalf of the Blue, but you must invite the others if you wish for them to attend,” she mentioned.

For a moment she went quiet.

Through a nearby mirror, a fairy sped out from the reflective surface. She nearly ran right into Rabu, then hurriedly adjusted her wings. After her, a few more fairies followed. They hesitated, bowing and curtsying to the queen.

Queen Cerulean glanced over her subjects.

“Something is wrong,” she said. “Very, very wrong.”

The royal fairy looked at the couple and said, “Go through the mirror. Use your wings,” she gestured to the wings she’d given them upon their arrival to the blue territory.

“Quick, please! You must help make things right! Court must be held, it cannot wait any more seasons.”

“Both pure of mind and heart, I believe in you!” She pointed toward the mirror. The reflections were no longer reflective of where they were, but a blend of shimmery colors. It moved about, as if stirred. The blue-metal frame, in patterns of leaves, vibrated from the immense power that it bounded to maintain the portal.

. . .

And upon traveling through the portal, Rabu and Kisaik would find themselves exiting a blue door.

Their wings would remain, still as small as any other fairy. Nearby, they would see the large Lothar Cervantez, at his full height in the expansive Great Hall, surrounded by cowering fairies who hid behind the Necromancer as if for protection.

A few bunnies hopped, but all in a specific direction, to gather around Thysbae who stood, looking at a throne of five empty seats in the front of the main room. In the far corner of the room, a large crystalline bell sat on a pedestal of roots that appeared to ever so gradually be growing higher and higher...

Kisaik sighed in relief as Cerulean granted that she would attend their wedding, and then telling them that they would need to ask each member of the court individually should they wish them to come. And Kisaik certainly had every intention of doing just that. It would be rude to put one of their number above any other. He still wasn’t certain of the ways of fairies, and their etiquette, afterall. He didn’t wish to make any assumptions here.

”What is it, your Highness? What’s wrong! What’s happening?” He felt a sudden chill run down his spine, feeling a slightly familiar sensation.

He turned to Rabu. ”I think… I feel something I haven’t in quite some time… Maybe it’s just my imagination but…”

He turned toward the portal, that Cerulean had bid them to travel through. ”Come Rabu! Our new friends need us!”

So saying, he charged, wings flitting to carry him through that portal. Where he emerged, the large Lothar, who’d shared in their adventure with the tree was towering over a host of fairies, who appeared to be taking refuge behind his bulky figure.

”What is this?!” He tossed his glance this way and that as he floated through the air, looking and taking in the whole scene. He noticed the bunnies coalescing around Thysbae, wondering what that was about.

Several of the people that had been gathered at the fairy ring were notably absent, but the situation was urgent, and Kisaik had no inclination to be slowed down by pondering what happened to them.

He looked up at the growing pedestal of roots, and began flying upwards to see what was on top of it.

”Rabu! Make sure the fairies are safe with Cervantez, I’m going to check up there!” So saying, he began the flight upwards toward the top of the pedestal, to see what dangers it held.

It was an odd sensation, feeling as if he too was being observed by sentience. This place, these doors, the fairies. It was all a very curious and interesting situation. His level of understanding and investigation led him to believe these doors where someone peering into him as he was trying to figure them out.

He knew nothing of them, and he figured he would ask them some questions. He figured if they gave off an air of sentience then maybe they could respond to questions. It was foolish, but there was no harm in trying, besides he would only look crazy talking to doors, but in a would of fairies, what was really insane.

"Tell me, if you can, how do courts go? What have you witnessed that could give me some insight into what I've walked into. This is my first one, so I'm not sure what all to expect."
he asked to the three doors. He felt somewhat foolish now that he thought about it, talking to inanimate objects.

It couldnt be helped, however, so he left it as is. As he awaited an answer if any, he turned to see how his group of fairies were doing, hoping they weren't making another mess of color again, lord knows he couldnt let another one happen on his watch. He hoped everything would turn out well for everyone else, though there seemed to be a commotion going on elsewhere. Then a vision of calamity.

It was weird and faded as soon as it came. Finding something to be off he went to go check on the other male that had come with him. ☠

As Cervantez spoke to the doors. They blankly stared at him, well - if they had eyes - but he got the sense anyway that they were mostly ignoring his question rather than unable to answer. The Yellow Door rippled, however, and a faint whisper crossed the barrier, "Sunshine. Lemons. Yolk of egg. Gold. Potato. Honey. Not enough cream, not enough sand, not enough. More orange, more green, more yellow needed."

Rabu beamed with delight when Queen Cerulean accepted their invitation. "We will invite all deh fairies we see, if deh as nice as you and purple it will make best wedding for truth"
The mortal born imagined the sky filled with the dazzling glow and fluttering wings of the fey folk and it made him smile the goofiest day dream grin as he nearly forgot his present company. He pictured himself looking down on his soon to be husband Kisaik who was looking dashing in his best amour and most elegant of hats, they held hands and looked into each others eyes as they exchanged heart felt vows to one another.

This beautiful day dream was cut short however, as a fairy shot through a mirror and almost toppled Rabu over. He knelt down to attend to the startled fairy but before he could get a word out another appeared and then another. Queen Cerulean looked them over with a concerned look and Kisaik asked what was wrong. The Queen told them that things were looking very not good and that they were needed through the mirror doorway.

"What is deh matter Kisaik?" Rabu looked at his betrothed with a strained brow of concern. There was definitely something troubling Kisaik besides the situation at hand but Rabu didn't get his answer before his partner urged him through the mirror.

they arrived to a room full of chaos, fearful rabbits and fairy folk a like scattering about in panic but Rabu could not see any sign of threat. Kisaik was quick to spot the hovering bell however and flew to investigate, quickly urging Rabu to go to the faeries aid to help calm them down. Flying over to massive goliath of a man Cervantez, Rabu noticed he was talking to a mirror. The strange thing was, it talked back but only with strange words about different colours, some of which were needed. "Hello Cervantez, what happened here." The Tunawa looked back at the talking mirror. "Is this mirror mad at you?"

One of Rabu's Mortal Born abilities involves emean creatures called Dooglewogs doing pranks and causing misfortune for the Rabu. I roll a dice every time Rabu uses his other powers and whatever it lands on will happen in the thread he's in.
If a Grader or Mod wishes to add a misfortune as a reward that would be wonderful but please be sure that it's only temporary and isn't too disruptive or disturbing (I'm mostly going with light and silly) look on my character sheet for examples.

Re: To Court the Fairies (Open)

An overactive imagination was something one might have accused Thysbae of after knowing him for some time. Perhaps only due to his particularly childish nature, but this — the vision of death and dying — was not entirely of his own creation. He didn’t think so, at least. Sucking in a breath, he watched as the not cat man was pulled back, dragged away by the shadows into his chair and a supposed crisis was averted. An apocalyptic vision of the end of the Great Hall would not come to pass, and he was grateful for it. Relief sagged his shoulders as he nearly collapsed. Heart beating so hard he felt it all throughout his frame, he breathed finally. Scary, scary, scary. Now the tears rushed forth.

He had narrowly avoided causing a complete disaster because he couldn’t do one thing. They streamed down hot and dripped down from his chin. There was something warm and soft beneath him — one of the bunnies swarming him — and he latched onto like a safety blanket, murmuring apologies for not doing better. Dark hair mussed, he buried his face in the fur of the bunny in his arms. When he calmed down marginally, he lifted his head to see that the others that had once in the clearing were congregated once again.

“Oh! You’re all here!” His previous sadness disappeared, a smile spreading. But it fell when he took in their expressions. Was nothing going right? “What’s happened? Is something wrong?” He hoped it wasn’t something very, very wrong.

The Great Hall of The Fairy Court

The fairies, which were many when Cervantez and Thysbae had first arrived, gradually left the Great Hall through the three doors. Green, the fairy from before, passed by Kisaik and Rabu as the couple traveled through the blue door, she hesitated briefly then disappeared in return to Queen Cerulean’s side. She didn’t answer the Tunawa knight’s question. None of the fairies did Those fairies who remained seemed too shocked or afraid or even unknowing of the answer themselves.

Rabu remained behind with Cervantez, to keep the fairies safe, while Kisaik bravely and boldly flew forth through the main room.

As Kisaik flew up along the pedestal of growing roots, the pillar getting higher and higher, a few of the fairies that flitted around Cervantez’s shoulder cheered.

Rabu spoke to Cervantez, inquiring about the door which the Tunawa labeled as a mirror.

For the Lothar, it looked like nothing more than a yellow-painted door. The adorable Tunawa had, after all, seen the other side of the Blue door and knew of its nature there.

There was a faint shimmer to the Yellow Door and then another whisper followed its previous answers of various yellow things, “Has the Red Kingdom arrived yet?”

In the moment, Rabu or Cervantez or both could answer to the Yellow Door's question and then...

...Cervantez went to check on Thysbae…

…and Thysbae was in the main room, surrounded by bunnies. The child of Aelig held onto a spotted black and white bunny known as Lady Snugglehop - a paragon of her house - and the bunny’s nose twitched. She nestled against the upset boy and allowed him to cry into her fur. The apologies confused her, but she didn’t argue with it - she couldn’t, really, being incapable of shared language.

Thysbae caught sight of the others - Kisaik on his brave journey up the pedestal, and Rabu following Cervantez as the Lothar came to check on the mortalborn.

A few fairies remained around Cervantez’s shoulders, but their attention was fixated on the Tunawa knight who neared the top of the rooted pillar where the crystal bell was.

Kisaik reached the top of the pedestal, though it continued to grow up and up and nearing the ceiling above. It seemed perfectly safe. Just a crystal bell on the flat surface of a growing pedestal.

The bell, however, was larger than the Tunawa - at least three times his size. The crystal glass glistened and reflected all the vivid colors that decorated the hall in brilliant, almost blinding rays of light.

One of the fairies at Cervantez’s shoulder shrilly called, “Ring it or it’ll shatter!”

The other fairies flew wildly around, above the bunnies, in shared realization that the pedestal wouldn't stop growing taller and taller, faster and faster, and the bell gradually moved closer and closer to the wooden ceiling of the tree’s interior. They repeated in sharp cries: “The Court! The Court! Ring the bell! Hurry!”

A handful of the fey drifted to Thysbae and tugged on his clothing and hair, to pull him toward the pedestal. The bunnies aided in the effort, hopping along his legs, and trying to get him closer. Pleas were repeated.

One fairy pulled at Rabu's hand, pointed at the pedestal and Kisaik, and then flew away to flee through one of the doors.

Re: To Court the Fairies (Open)

Kisaik received the cheers and accolades of the fairies below. It gave him courage and a second wind of strength. He flitted on his new fairy wings upwards to the top of the pedestal, trying to outpace the growth of that pillar so he could find out what was on the top of it.

And there it was, a crystal bell, about three times the size of the tunawa! It was pretty big, even as hand bells went. The handle was longer than the tunawa was used to seeing, anyway.

When he heard the frantic cries of the fairies on the ground, he got a shock of panic going through him. How could he ring it properly if he couldn't lift it?!

He tapped on the crystal surface of the bell, trying to give it some sound. He did this a few more times, trying to see if it produced a sound.

Failing that, he flew up toward the tip of the handle. Perching there for a moment, he considered the situation. Then, with all his meager might, and the power of fairy wings, he tried to lift the bell ever so slightly off the surface of the pedestal. If he even got it so much as a centimeter off the surface, he would wobble slightly on the air, to let the bell ring.

Kisaik was determined not to give up, he would see that bell rung, and rung good.

He remembered the words of Princess Purple. The advice she'd given against evil triumphing. He must never give up!

Kisaik lifted again with all his might, and tried to ring that bell even once.
 ! Message from: Strange
As Kisaik tapped the surface of the bell, he felt tingles rush through his Tunawa body, like the sensation of the first chill of Cylus. As he continued to tap at it, the sensation changed however to the first warmth of Saun, to the coldest day of Zi'da, through temperatures and the inherent feeling one has to the seasons, Kisaik found himself unable to produce sound from tapping at the bell.

He flew toward the handle tip and perched there. Sensations of wading through water rushed the air around him. When he tried to lift the bell, the edge of the hollow base squeaked along the growing pedestal. The ceiling loomed closer above Kisaik. He found he could not lift it fully, but he could move it slightly. His grip on the handle slipped and slid for the crystal was incredibly smooth to the touch, almost no friction to be had.

Dangerously, the bell itself wobbled as he started to get the smallest of lifts - though not enough to ring for it was quite large and would require a great swing of momentum. Kisaik felt the sudden threat of falling backward, of losing his grip, of him and the bell accidentally tumbling off the pedestal and to the ground that had gotten a far ways away from the pillar's surface now.

Would he proceed to attempt to lift the bell on his own?

Re: To Court the Fairies (Open)

Image

No good... Kisaik couldn't lift the bell, it was too heavy and his wings didn't have the lift nor his arms the strength to make it budge. He felt it wobble beneath him whenever he tried, threatening to topple off the pedestal. And he had no wish to find out what happened when the bell shattered on the ground.

He was in a bit of a panic now, very worried and concerned that he wouldn't be the hero the fairies needed. His nerves were strained, and he looked down at his companions, toward Thysbae in particular. He was on the edge of losing his cool, but crept up toward the edge of the pedestal, and with a great straining reach of his one arm, he tried to reach for the young man.

Much to his surprise, his arm lengthened, to the tune of five feet! Perhaps enough for THysbae to jump up and grab onto his arm and climb up it! He would just need to secure his position on the pedestal.

"Young Man! Any of you! I'm too weak to ring the bell, come climb up my arm, I will try to hold onto the pedestal while you make your way up, but make it up you must! Everything depends on it!"

Kisaik continued to reach out with his one arm, which extended now nearly five feet to the ground. Kisaik was astounded, not knowing how he was doing this. Was this some fairy magic? Or something else...

"Quickly! The bell must be rung before it reaches the ceiling!"
