The Wedding Ceremony of Kisabu

Image

50th of Ymiden 719

The wedding date was set for the 50th of Ymiden, whereupon Kisaik and Rabu would be joined in marriage under the canopy of the First Tree. All their friends were there, such as they were, and more friends yet to be met were invited.

Kisaik was wearing his finest, spidersilk tuxedo he'd ordered from the guild of blood. On his head, the fancy silk top hat of a groom. He worried, flitting from this table to that, making sure everything was gathered and perfect for the feast. Produce had been gathered from the fields of Preservation, on the lower west side of the Burho. Serving drinks was Alaiwa, Drostam and Sai's father (who they'd thought appropriate to invite, given his children's role in their matriomony), and Vasa was standing guard over it all.

Slate stalked the underbrush, invading little pockets of fractures to catch wolfmice that strayed too close to the festivities. Angus chased Slate into these minifractures, trying to see if he could finally catch the elusive and fleet-footed gray feline, only to find his nose coming up short of following the cat into those rabbit holes.

Nugget was sat in his perch, far above it all, watching curiously as the people below busied themselves in one task or another.

Drostam and Sai stood at attention, wearing what clean clothes they could gather for this occasion. They stood waiting for the other groom to arrive, as Kisaik wrung his hands, wondering what was keeping Rabu.

Had his best friend forgotten the date of their wedding? And he wondered idly if fairies might attend, as they'd arranged.

“What is talking those fairies so long?” Rabu chirped to bubbles and twig. Twig being the stoic protection spirit that they were, did absolutely nothing. While Bubbles the bubble spirit, gurgled and poped in what Rabu could only assume was annoyance on his behalf.
“No bubbles, I think Twig is right..we should be more patient. They know today is a big day and they’ll come soon enough.” Rabu said calmly in squirrel chirps while compulsively fiddling with his fingers.

Quietly they waited until Rabu felt a tap on his shoulder, he turned around to see nothing. He frowned a bit in confusion but upon turning back, his eyes widened upon seeing a sudden rainbow of glimmering fairies before him. There was so many of them, Rabu could barely see anything past them all. The were giggling and smiling coyly at Rabu’s astonishment at their sudden arrival. One fairy of tangerine fluttered up to Rabu with a raised brow as their eyes traveled up and down the tunawa’s attire. Rabu was wearing his usual pants and shirt, they had a few bits of wear and tare and the colours had dulled over use.

“Is this what mortals wear to their important ceremonies.” The orange fairy scrunched their nose in disgust, many of the other fairies openly agreed while others tried to hold their lips together to stay polite.

“Is it really dat bad…” Rabu looked down in shame and examined his clothing more closely. His clothing looked like it had never been washed, so much that there was a wild meadow of stains and blemishes that covered his once white garments. There was also quite a bit of rips and tares, that had all been put together with messy stitch work. It most defiantly was that bad.

“No my friend it’s worse.. but cheer up we’re here to help you.” The orange fairy smiled and stepped aside to reveal a draping robe carried by two other fairies. The robe was mostly porcelain white at the top but progressively transformed to a vibrant orange at the bottom. The fairies flew over to Rabu and handed him the flowing robe. The fabric was as soft as silk and felt light and delicate in his hands. Rabu’s eyes lit up and his mouth widened into a toothy smile. “Dank you so much dis is very very beautiful.”

“I will lend you this robe for today” The orange fairy glared at Rabu before adding ”…and only today. you'll be on your own after this.”

“Oh yes yes, I be very carful wit it.” Rabu nodded his head quickly in agreement. He soon went quiet and frowned in concentration before he got up the courage to speak again. “How do I return dis?”

“My name is Pekoe, and if you call my name it will be carried in the wind to me and I will take the robe from you.”

“Oh don’t forget me!” Cried another fairy from behind the crowd. The fairy fluttered down from the sky in front of Rabu holding a beautiful flower crown that they gently placed on the tunawa’s head.

“My name is Taro and I give you this crown for your special day.” The mysterious fairy smiled brightly. Unlike the other fairy their skin, hair and clothes were all various shades of purple. The flower crown was of the same colouring, with everything from dark wine coloured flowers to ones of a lavender hue.

“I will also need this back as it will wilt if left too long in the mortal realms. You understand.” Taro said as she gave Rabu’s cheek a light pinch. “Well we can’t leave your man waiting. Hurry up and get dressed and lets get going.”

——

Rabu did just that and arrived in his new fresh attire, looking almost etherial as he walked down towards his husband to be. The fairies danced around behind him, playing their flutes and horns behind him as he went. The two spirits, Twig and bubbles floated just above

Rabu looked at Kisaik, and despite his bright smile he began to tear up. He was just so happy that this day had finally come.

One of Rabu's Mortal Born abilities involves emean creatures called Dooglewogs doing pranks and causing misfortune for the Rabu. I roll a dice every time Rabu uses his other powers and whatever it lands on will happen in the thread he's in.
If a Grader or Mod wishes to add a misfortune as a reward that would be wonderful but please be sure that it's only temporary and isn't too disruptive or disturbing (I'm mostly going with light and silly) look on my character sheet for examples.

Kisaik watched as the shadows grew long beneath the First Tree. He was starting to worry now, as Rabu had not yet shown up! The tunawa knight began getting jittery, pacing this way and that in his tuxedo. Some of his friends looked on in concern, Drostam looked bored. Angus rushed down the aisle to meet Kisaik, sniffling and licking at his tuxedo. "Ach! Alaiwa, get your dog! Nice angus?!" Kisaiy pushed the pooch off of him, and then relaxed some as Alaiwa led his terrier away from the knight.

Kisaik looked at his fairy knight ring, with it's amber gem. At that moment, he remembered the adventure he had had with Rabu in the fairy realm. Perhaps that was what kept him? He was looking for the fairies? The idea gave Kisaik some semblance of hope and courage. He felt his resolve steeling as he considered the orange gem in his ring.

So, it came as not too much of a surprise, when the orange fairy court descended upon the wedding scene. Hundreds of the fairies swarmed all around, laughing, giggling. Some of them even pulling at people's hair in playfulness.

In the middle of all this delightful chaos and noise, arrived Rabu, running at the speed of... well Rabu. He was looking very handsome in his pure white robe, with splashes of orange on the bottom of it. Kisaik's eyes lit up (quite literally) when he spotted his betrothed. It was everything they'd hoped, the fairies had arrived!

The happiness of that moment stole Kisaik's breath away, as he sprouted his orange fairy wings. Thus buoyed by the ability to fly, he rose to eye height with Rabu, and met him in the middle of the lane leading up to the altar.

"Shall we?" He said with a wink. Then stretched his arm to link with Rabu's and began leading him along toward the place where Drostam and Sai were waiting to enforce their vows.

"Oh Rabu, this is so fun! I can't wait to have more adventures with you!" Kisaik exclaimed as they arrived at the altar. Kisaik remained hovering in the air, at eye-height with Rabu. Then they turned to each other, and locked eyes for a few moments.

Drostam cleared his throat, in a rough way. "Now yer gorter say yor vows!"

Sai glared at Drostam's courseness, and curtseyed at Rabu and Kisaik. "Don't mind bruder, he actual happy ter be here!" She shot a snide look at him, and then turned back toward the wedded pair. "Now, der yer remember yer vows? Gotter say them now, or no weddin'..."

Drostam smirked, red in his cheeks, "And then we all duel."

"Hug duels, dear boy." Kisaik corrected the boy, "No blood or sap spilling on our wedding."

Rabu nodded his head in agreement as he wiped the tears of joyful sap welling up under his eyes. He grasped his husband to be by the hand and they headed together to the alter. Rabu’s grip got tighter the closer they got to they’re destination, and the butterflies in his chest began to frolic out of control. It was hard to believe this was even really happening.

“I imagine we’ll get into even more trouble now.” Rabu giggled back at Kisaik. It seemed like the two couldn’t help getting in strange situations especially while together and that was unlikely to change. As Rabu locked eyes with kisaik he thought of all those times, from being captured by unruly children, to the fairy court and even helping an induk spirt find peace. Looking into the other Tunawa’s eyes eased his nerves and the butterflies slowed their dance inside him.

Rabu’s mind was startled back to the present by the gruff voice of Drostam, who urged them to make their vows. Rabu’s eyes widened as he realized he had not written or even thought about what he was going to say. He quickly did his best to relax his face and seem like everything was peachy but internally there was a chaotic storm brewing as he mentally scrambled to put words together.

“Um okay, I will say my speech.” Rabu blurted out against his better judgement. He wished he could have sucked the words right back in and let Kisaik go first or maybe cause a distraction, anything to have a bit more time. It was too late for that, he would need to improvise somehow.

Rabu took a deep breath and began. “Kisaik, my time wid you has been great..Better than Great…Amazing…no a better word…. I can’t tink of a word better than that.…So amazing will have to do… I guess.” Rabu looked out at everyone around him and felt overwhelmed for a moment, he took a another breath and tried to calm his nerves. He glanced back at Kisaik and felt a bit better looking into his dazzling emerald eyes.

“You are my special flower and I hope you always will be. I don’t know what I would do wid out my knight to protect me and I don’t know what you would do if I wasn’t there to keep you out of trouble.” Laughter and a few chuckles came from the audience and it boosted his confidence.

“No matter where we go or how many friends I meet, you’ll always be my most treasured friend.” Rabu smiled and looked up at Drostam. “Okay I done now.”

Sai sniffed in happiness as the fairies descended upon the wedding. For a while, a long while, everyone enjoyed each other's company, and no two more than Rabu and Kisaik themselves. They would have their marriage under the First Tree, with their friends the fairies, as well as the ones who'd borne witness to their initial vows.

Coming to the point of the vows, Rabu cited what he'd cobbled together. As he went through the words, Sai's smile began to fade. Word by word that deviated from the original vows that Rabu had spoken. Kisaik gritted his teeth. He didn't know if Rabu knew where or how he erred, but Kisaik being knowledgeable about Yari etiquette, knew exactly how this was going to go.

Sai's face reddened, beat red by the time Rabu finished his vows. Then, angry tears began trailing down her cherubic, but dirty cheeks. She took a deep breath, and with her shrillest voice, spoke to the skies, "HE FORGOT HIS VOOOOWWWWSSS! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!" And then she descended into a fit of crying and hysterics. Her antics rivaled the most petulant and shrill of Elindria.

Kisaik grabbed Rabu's hand, and concentrated very hard, furrowing his leafy brow as he did so. It'd take a trill or so for him to form a way out of this danger, but he was determined that no harm came to his Rabu.

Drostam gave Rabu a smug smile when the mortalborn informed him that he was done with his vows. He shook his head and chuckled, taking out a little cudgel, and beating it against the palm of his hand with menacing intent. "Oh, yior done awroight. Done fucked yoir vows!" Having said this, he chuckled louder with every passing moment, until he too screamed.

"The Broide has forgotten his vows! Now they must duel, only death can eroise dishoinoir! Foight!~" He pointed his cudgel, with evil intent toward Kisaik and Rabu.

By now, Kisaik had achieved the necessary ether to blink both himself and Rabu away. It'd likely strain his magical abilities, but he would do it to save his beloved Rabu. He pulled his shadow shiv from thin air, and then cut the portal. And with a swift layered blink, shot himself through the first rupture. Leaping through the first, he then pulled Rabu through a next rupture portal, thus achieving a double blink.

They disappeared into thin air, leaving the wedding party wondering what would happen next. By then, much of the Yari gathered were beginning to brawl among themselves. Meanwhile, the fairies began to discombobulate, fluttering around in confusion.

Kisaik sighed, "I'm sorry, Rabu, I should have told you before we prepared for the wedding. You have to recite the exact vows that we made when we pledged to each other..."

He sighed again.

As if hearing him, an orange fairy descended from the canopy of the tree. He looked beneficent upon the two who'd played such an instrumental part in saving the fairy realm. "My friends, forget the strange and inhospitable customs of this strange land. For you two were promised to each other. Your intent is all that counts... So, Kisaik, if you will give him your vows, I will complete this ceremony..."

Kisaik's leafy brow lifted at this intrusion, yet he smiled at the fairy. They were good people, and he was happy to allow this one to officiate his ceremony. Thus emboldened, as chaotic battle was unleashed beneath the First Tree, he cleared his throat. "Rabu, you are the most special and pretty flower in all the land. You fill me with hope when dread ought to reign, and give me purpose. From this Tree that we both helped give life to, I swear I will always cherish and protect you. Though our paths may diverge at times, we will never be far apart in spirit."

He showed his lucky Rabu's foot, and smiled sly at his special friend. "I swear this from the beginnings to the endings of the First Tree."

The Fairy prince seemed pleased with this vow, as he should, it was from the heart. It also included sentiments that sprung from their captivity to Drostam to the Sprouting of the First Tree, to the Call. "I now pronounce you, special buddies for all time. You may now hug."

So it was done, Rabu and Kisaik were joined from all beginnings to all endings. Once they were satisfied with their hug, and it was hard to imagine they could be satisfied with anything short of eternity, Kisak smiled up at Rabu. "Now let's fly from this tree!" He said, and activated the magic of his magic acorn, transporting themselves elsewhere.

Their adventures had only just begun.

It was as if Rabu’s worst fears were coming to fruition as he looked around him to see looks of horror and disgust. He knew his vows weren’t that great, definitely worse than the first time he made them but surely not offensive…at least he was pretty sure they weren’t? It soon dawned on him as the Girl Sai cried out hysterically that he had forgotten his lines. His eyes widened in shock and his chest tightened in dread, how could he have forgotten the vows he had made that day? He couldn’t dare to look at Kisaik and see the disappointment that was surely painting his face. Instead he looked up just in time to see the man Drostam smiling menacingly at the duo while he took out some kind of club. This man pointed it at Rabu and stated that he and Kisaik would need to do battle to the death….because he forgot some vows? Rabu was taken aback and raised his brow in confusion. “You… make joke?” Rabu stammered, while he waited for laughter that would never come.

Instead Rabu heard a loud noise behind him and Kisaik pushed him, what followed was a sudden shifting of location in the blink of an eye. Rabu nearly fell over as he tried to adjust himself to the new location and everything that had transpired. He, Rabu Nivo Kufuata Nijama, son of Wada the wanderer and Tohey the strange had actually ruined his own wedding to his most cherished friend Kisaik.

“You do not need to apologize, I am the one who caused this, “ Rabu hung his head in shame and embarrassment. “I should have known…”

Rabu was just beginning to process that he had really truly ruined the wedding when a bacon of hope in the from of an orange fairy found them and fluttered down towards the couple. Rabu’s eyes light up with relief as the fairy stated that he was not swayed by the barbaric traditions of the land and would finish their vows.

Rabu of course had faith in Kisaik but he still crossed his fingers until the final vows were done, on the off chance that a Six armed purple beast decided to pop out from the sky and gobble them up before they were made official. With all that typically happened to Rabu and Kisaik, it wouldn’t be the least bit shocking, pretty typical actually.

It was also pretty typical of Kisaik’s to deliver beautiful words that melted the hearts of anyone in earshot, he was without a doubt the better half in this instance. When it came time to Hug Rabu practically melted into Kisaik and gave him the firmest and snug Hug that ever there was. The tears he’d been holding in burst forth from his tiny eyes and likely created a massive lake of sap for the local insects.

After a good long hug, the two separated and Rabu returned his husbands handsome smile. With a rase of his acorn, Kisaik then teleported them far away.

Comments: A Tunawa wedding! That was a nice thread, and Kisaik and Rabu seem to be made for each other.

Rabu actually teared up!

I couldn’t help but grin when Kisaik told Rabu that he couldn’t wait to have more adventures with him.

I hope that they will have a lot more adventures, and I wish them all the best for their future together!

Enjoy your rewards!
