Alyssia looked over at Devin as he got excited talking about Delroth. The teen smiled gently to see Devin so excited talking about his patron Immortal was amazing. Would the teen ever truly have that feeling as well? Was that a feeling that many only felt with their Immortals or did people feel it with their families too? The teen felt silly thinking about such things, but what else could she do? She was not old enough to wed and had no idea where to even begin looking for her family…. Did she want to go back? After all she had seen and done, was there truly a way to go back to being just a daughter and not who she was becoming? The girl pushed the thoughts from her mind focusing back on Devin as he asked if she had met Delroth. Shaking her head gently, Alyssia had not met the Immortal. But if he was anything like Saoire then the girl would be happy to meet him.

“No, I have not personally met him, but I would like to one day. I wish to meet as many people and Immortals as I can. I would like to know what it is like to be one of the ones they choose. Though I fear I am too young right now, that just gives me time to figure out how to meet them. That doesn’t involve being in some kind of danger,” Alyssia said with a giggle.

Alyssia smiled when the man began talking about alchemy. It would be something interesting to learn for sure. She had heard of people using such a technique to change things. Why couldn’t she use it to make things too. Perhaps even make gifts for Saoire herself. The teen wanted to make something that the Immortal would be proud to have not just take to be kind.

“I want to make something special for Lady Saoire, but I don’t have any skills. Nor do I have the money to get her something. Do you know anything that I can do, Devin? I want to make sure that I show her how much I appreciate everything she has done for me,” Alyssia stated looking at the man, “perhaps someone can come and teach me here as well as me taking classes at the school lady Saoire constructed. I do not think I am old enough to start at the university just yet.”

If there was anyone who could help her come up with a plan it was Devin. He was always good at that sort of thing. The teen was still very curious about the Scalvwing that the young Mortalborn had mentioned before. Even if it took some time, the teen was sure that it would be amazing to have one.

“If it is not too much trouble I would love to see your Scalvwing as well,” Alyssia stated with a smile, “I have never seen one as far as I know.”

Re: Curious Questions

Devin had no idea what kind of things Alyssia was wondering about after having witnessed his excitement about Delroth. He was just relieved that she hadn’t actually met his favourite Immortal ever yet and gained a bad impression of him. He didn’t want Alyssia to have a bad impression of Delroth – or Delroth to have a bad impression of Alyssia because he liked them both and really wanted them to get along. So, when the young Baroness admitted that she would like to meet Delroth one day, he beamed at her.

“You could attend a mass at the temple that I built for him, for example”, he suggested. “I don’t only hold sermons there, I also try to teach people a bit about Delroth himself, and I play odes to Delroth on my lute. I’m not sure if he’ll visit again anytime soon – Delroth does as he pleases, of course – but you’d still learn what he’s like”, he continued only in order to stop abruptly and furrow his brow when Alyssia mentioned danger.

“When did you meet an Immortal in a dangerous situation?” he wanted to know.

“I’m not sure if there is a set way to meet an Immortal”, he admitted and furrowed his brow some more. “It’s a little different every time. Delroth suddenly showed up when I visited that old shrine, for example. He told me to fix it. I’m pretty sure that embodying an Immortal’s domains and honoring them helps attract an Immortal’s attention though”, he added. Alyssia wanted to meet as many people and Immortals as she could, and he wanted to help her with that, but he didn’t know how exactly.

He hadn’t even managed to meet his own Immortal father yet, mostly because he didn’t know his name!

“Unless … some Immortals actually have addresses!” he suddenly realized. “Saoire does. And Ilaren probably does as well. We could try to invite a few Immortals to dinner sometime!” he suggested and mentally congratulated himself on his great idea. He was pretty sure that a few Immortals would come, too, especially if he promised them food that they’d never eaten before – such as fried moss bunny legs with rainbow-colored breading and Rubrum Berry jelly with a side of Night-Scented Stock.

“What do you think of that?” he wanted to know.

“You have a lot of skills!” Devin insisted when Alyssia admitted that she wanted to make something special for Lady Saoire, but that she didn’t have any skills. From the firm tone of his voice, it was obvious that he didn’t agree with her. At all. “You are a hero, and the bravest person I know. You could write a story for her, for example. You’ve had a lot of adventures. Gifts don’t always have to me material. They can come in the form of knowledge, too, and I think she’d appreciate it if you shared something personal with her. And if that isn’t enough, I can teach you how to bake a cake for her. She probably loves cake!” he told her in cheerful tone of voice and smiled.

“And I’ll see about getting a tutor for you to come here”, he said. “And then we’ll get you enrolled at Saoire’s School. I don’t think that they have an age limit there”, he added. Having said that, he reached down in order to stroke both Heidi and Novus so that they wouldn’t feel ignored, and then he looked at Alyssia again, expectantly.

A few moments later, when Alyssia admitted that she wanted to see his Scalvwing, he abruptly stood and told her, ”We can visit him right now if you want to!” Provided that she was interested, he would then lead her to the stable where his Scalvwing Caz resided so that she could get to know him.

Alyssia smiled brightly when Devin suggested she go to the temple of Delroth and attend a service. She did not know much about Delroth so it would prove to be an interesting opportunity to learn more about him. There was only so much the teen would be able to learn from books and scrolls of the immortals. The teen had never been to a temple before; the experience would prove to be an interesting opportunity to see how the followers act. She already knew how Devin was being a marked of Delroth, but that did not mean everyone else acted the same way.

“I haven’t met one that I know of. But I know that meeting people in general in dangerous situations can make for bad impressions because of stress. It only makes sense that logic would work for Immortals as well. Of course, I could very well be wrong,” Alyssia said with a smile.

The teen listened as he explained about the strange way, he met Delroth once before. A shrine that was run down? Why would a shrine be run down? Do people not take care of shrines that belong to Immortals? Alyssia decided to listen before asking any questions. The girl was surprised to hear that Immortals actually stayed on Idalos. Of course, she knew of Saoire because she had come to several events and even hosted some herself. Ilaren, the teen knew of the name in passing; but she did not know much of Ilaren. The Baron had given her a book about a lady named Yvithia’s library. She was not sure if that was another Immortal or not.

“I think a ball for all the Immortals to come and enjoy themselves would be great! Though what if they don’t like each other? Perhaps we could send word to Saoire and see if she could meet with one of us and ask some questions before setting a date. I would happily send out the letters if you like!” Alyssia said with a giggle excited sitting forward on her seat wanting to start immediately, “we can even invite the other barons, Elizabeth, and the council members!”

Alyssia caught herself and took a deep breath before sitting back in the chair looking at Devin once more.

“Sorry about that. I got a little excited. I would love to learn how to bake and send Saoire a gift basket of sweets along with some writings of my journeys. Maybe even see if she would have time one day to meet with me. I was doing some research about the Pirate Lords and it got me questioning some things. But those thoughts are for another time. I would love to see your Scalvwing; but it is getting late and I have taken up enough of your time. Thank you for letting me come talk to you,” Alyssia stated and smiled with a look of true gratitude towards the young man, “you are like a big brother to me. I feel like I can trust you with anything. Maybe one day we can go for a picnic, and we can share more of our pasts with each other.”

Notes: This was a funny thread that was kind of all over the place with regards to the conversations that took place.

Ranging from pets, to the prospect of learning magic, to meeting Immortals and learning alchemy. I think both characters had interesting perspectives with regard to magic, immortals, and all the other topics considered.

However, although I would agree that Devin is probably right in that dying sucks, how would he know without having experienced it? Maybe there's an afterlife that's great!

Alyssia had an interesting point about the Immortals and inviting as many as possible to dinner. Maybe some of them wouldn't necessarily get along. It's hard to see Ilaren finding much interest in Saoire, who serves non-alcoholic drinks at her parties and is a pacifist for example.
