"Depersonalises the plight of the lower classes?" Vega looked at him and grinned. "I think that's the problem righ' there with all this nonsense you lot talk about. Lower class is as stupid a notion as upper class, or middle class. It's like the military all talkin' about superior officers. I'm not lower than anyone, an' no one's superior to me. I'm also not higher than anyone, an' no one's inferior. I don't know what it is with folks need to put themselves into a hierarchy, but it's stupid," she said, firmly. "Implied notions of a person bein' better or worse than another, on account of how much money they've got, or because they happened to be born into a certain family or not?" She shook her head. "It's an illusion, all of it. An' a temporary one at that. All it takes is one eruption, or docks collapse, an' you'll see how much difference there is between one of us an' another. That's what I think anyhow. "
They started looking at flowers and such, and she was keeping an eye on things while chatting to him when Woe gestured to a flower he had found. "What's that?" He explained and Vega nodded. "A corpseflower? I've heard of them. They're not uncommon, but they reckon that, if it grows on a grave, yeah, you can dry the leaves an' then when you eat them you flop into a trance an' stay there for half a day or so. When you wake up," she shrugged slightly. "Well, apparently, people report that they've seen ghosts of those who've not passed over. But I dunno how accurate that is, or whether they give specific hallucinations." Vega had no wish to speak to anyone who had died and those who had - namely her mother -she very much hoped that she had passed over and gone to whatever was next.
Reaching out to touch the plant, Vega considered it. "Only way to know for sure, I guess, is to give it a try." Glancing at him, though, she was sure to make the point. "But like I said. Apparently, it knocks you cold for a good ten to twelve breaks, so be prepared." The heat was coming close to unbearable and she looked at him. "I'm sorry, I'm goin' to have to go an' lie down. Pregnancy is makin' me overheat, you know, an' I run hot to begin with because of Faldrun's curse." Heaving herself up, she looked at him with a smile. "I'm sorry. I want to stay an' chat, but I need to rest." She didn't want to be rude, that was the last thing she wanted, but she had listened to her body all the way through this pregnancy and, right now, it was telling her to rest.
