Dinner for Two

When he teased her, her face lit up in a deep blush. Instead of the soft pink she had been sporting most of the night, it was deeper and darker- closer to red. But the thought of being naked in front of him sent chills through her body, tingling her spine, even if she had already seen him half naked. Other than patients, she wasn’t sure that she had ever seen anyone nude. Her mother, perhaps, but certainly never in a romantic or intimate way. She stifled a physical shiver of her body. “You are terrible, you know that?”

Despite being far from a big girl, Rei had eaten most all of her dinner. Besides the fact that it was delicious, she always found herself very hungry after work. Probably because she didn’t eat during her shift and was often on her feet and moving around. It worked up quite the appetite. She had eaten slowly though, enjoying the company far too much to let the night end. She nursed her wine all through the meal, taking tiny sips here and there. By the time Wendell had paid the server for their meal and her service, she was taking down the last of the wine. She had a nice warm sensation filling her body to her fingertips and a slight fuzziness of the mind.

She smiled across the table at him, folding up the napkin she had used and placing it back on the table on top of her mostly empty plate. “You should. I usually have good suggestions. For instance, I would have suggested you skip that tattoo.” Laughing under her breath, a bolt of shock struck through her at his comment that she should pick the next place they would go. He was insinuating that he wanted to see her again, almost seeming to say that they definitely would be seeing each other again. She would have blushed if she wasn’t already. “I have a few ideas,” she said, a pleased smile crossing her features.

Standing up from the table, she pushed her chair in. It gave the servers less work to do if she helped out. “Of course. I often get the undesirable advances on my walks home. Perhaps having the big bad wolf with me will help.” Smirking slyly, she walked out of the door and onto the streets. The moon was bathing it in a silvery light and the flickering yellow light of street lamps helped to brighten it up enough to not be dangerous. The butcher had closed up shop, and she silently wondered what time it must be. How long had they been sitting there talking and bantering?

Comments: Really lovely thread, you two! I enjoyed how the conversation flowed between Rei and Wendell, the quiet teasing, and the discoveries they made about one another. This was an important social thread for their relationship to develop!

Rei, beautiful writing as always. I enjoyed learning about Rei's background, and her reactions to Wendell (the blushing, the teasing, the admonishment about his tattoo) were perfect.

Wendell, nice work! This line made me laugh out loud: "Well I work as a builder," he admitted, which women always told him explained his large hands. Little did they know, he thought." Ha!

I'm looking forward to your next thread together!

If you feel I've missed anything or if you have questions about your review, please don't hesitate to send me a quick PM. Thank you!
