"Good" Hunter simply said after Xander's speech of honor and loyalty was over. He wasn't about to go making friends with men who would then go and stab him in the back. But Xander wouldn't do that, would he? He needed all the support he could get if he was to ever become duke of Krome. And support was what Hunter would give him, unless he was betrayed, of course.
"That is my issue, Lord Krome. All kings wish to make their people happy, to make them well and to make their kingdoms the richest and best out of them all. But when you look too far into your dreams, you forget your capabilities and suddenly you are in a reality you did not want." He spoke from experience, as the same thing had happened to him once before. Hunter had already been burned, and so he decided it wouldn't happen again. Small goals, one after another, were what was necessary to achieve greatness. Men who wanted to be great and only strived for that, they would never even deserve it.
Xander reminded the noble of himself, only of his younger self, back before all of the things that happened happened. Before he left for Nashaki, before what happened to Ivy. His teenage self, that was the closest Xander got to Hunter. Ambitious, hard-working and good at the game, while also patriotic and caring for his family. That was how he would describe Xander Krome, and that was exactly who his teenage self was.
"Equality is a dream many people dream of. What makes you think you can achieve the things hundreds of lords, barons and dukes tried before you? I bet they all wanted their people to be happy." He finished, testing the limits of Xander's niceness, and seeing how far the lord will go into explaining his plans. It was obvious he wouldn't spill everything right away, but he had to have some sort of plan of how he was to become Duke, and how he was to make his people happy.

It appears Hunter may have viewed him as a hopeless optimist. Possibly he believed him a self fulfilling narcissist, one who spoke of an unrealistic future. To a certain extent that was correct, his ideas were likely those of someone without worldly experiences. Although he did believe he could achieve his goals he fully understood the Lord’s skepticism at the aims and ideas. Perhaps there was some way to prove it to the new ally he was making, he was just unsure how he would approach that. It was possible it may only be something gained over time of course but if that were the case it would remain to be seen.
Then he asked why he thought that he was right to achieve what everyone else had failed. What did he have that other did not, what made him different? Of course Xander wished to just say it was because he was he. Yet, he knew that was no reason at all and so he asked his own question in return. ”Do you really think the leaders of the past wanted what was best for the people? Truly do you believe the Kings of old wanted to make Rynmere a safe and fair place or to make sure they remained powerful and on top?” Xander knew what he believed on the matter. He knew his parents and their parents and so on had not wanted equality, if they had there would no longer be a noble class that had all the power and instead peasants would only differ from nobles by riches and not say I'm the political environment.
”I for one know that my family did not, especially not my parents. I do not believe there have been many leaders, if any, who truly cared about the common people. Those who wished to see an equal representation between those of high birth and those of less privileged backgrounds. I believe that I actually want this, I want true equality and fairness unlike many of the leaders of the past.” He may have sounded full of himself but he truly believed he could lead Krome into a new era especially after establishing a democracy.
He rubbed his hands together and looked at the other Lord with a smile. ”You must think me foolish or even mad to think I can do something never achieved before. It is sadly the way of the world to believe that things can't change, still it only takes one man to start an avalanche. Most things just need a tap to be set into motion, a gentle push and then like a snowball it will grow. I think myself that snowball from which it can grow.” He of course had not revealed exactly his plan but it was clear he was passionate about achieving his goals. His aims for his lands were more than admirable or at least to him they were.

A narcissist, an optimist, those were all really just labels that people put on other people so they could differentiate them from other people, Hunter believed. He didn’t view the noble lord as any of that, he simply viewed him as a man that sought something he couldn’t gain, not without major troubles and obstacles. But he believed Xander had what it took to overcome those obstacles, which is why he decided to support him.
”I think that there were, for each a dozen selfish and power-hungry leaders, one or two of those that you describe.” He honestly did think that, at least until Xander further described what he desired. It appeared foolish at first, being willing to give up an advantage in life just so others could have less of a disadvantage, but it made sense as Hunter thought about it more. Giving the people equal rights would mean the many respected him, and the few didn’t, instead of it being the other way around. So that is your angle, Xander Krome He thought as he considered it once more. Using the support of the common folks to take over his duchy, Xander was clever.
”If I wasn’t myself, but another, more simple man, yes, I would call you foolish, for wanting to give the common people what only nobles have so far had. But I understand your intentions, my lord.” And he truly believed he did, understand them that is. Hunter was certain he knew what the Lord of Krome was planning, and therefore he knew he wanted to support him. A man that could come up with such an ambitious plan and a realistic idea as to how to turn it into reality deserved to be Duke, or so he believed.
”I will support you, once my support is needed. You will have Gawyne by your side, as long as I have anything to say about it.” He smiled, briefly looking in the distance. He was also ambitious, and had a realistic way of achieving his goals, perhaps Xander was more than he first thought, more than just a good player, perhaps he was even excellent.

Xander was gladdened to hear that he was gaining the support of the future leader of Gawyne. He would make a valuable ally and he seemed to have much more of a brain than many of the other noble folk. In fact Hunter Gawyne seemed like he would be a most useful and intelligent friend, one day Xander would call upon this new accomplice and then they would see if his word was true and if his support was something that could be counted on. Still, currently he had made a good impression and so Xander was inclined to see a bright partnership for the two in the future.
"Your support and, if you can bring it with you down the line, that of Gawyne is something I truly appreciate. I do not believe that the people of the south could ever truly understand things the way the folk of the North do. We see a very different side of Rynmere and we experience very different people, culture environment." Xander regarded the other lord with curious eyes, he was pretty sure the other man agreed with his views but of course that could be wrong. "They can't possibly understand what we need an yet they lead us. I have never understood that and when you take in the fact that most of the Kings are selfish and power hungry then it gives me and Krome, at least, no reason to believe in them or support them." Xander rubbed his chin with a smile as he considered the future and what would come of it.
Xander smiled and shook his head, looking at Hunter with a pleasant and less serious gaze. "Anyway, it appears I do not need to sell my ideas to you any longer so I think perhaps it is time I retire. Carriages are not the most comfortable places to sleep and I was deep in thought on my ride here, so much so that I slept little." Xander extended a hand to his companion, offering to shake them before he was deposited at his room. "If you would be so kind as to point me in the direction of my room then I am sure I can find my way. A goodnight of rest and then I will make for much better company." Xander assumed he would be seeing more of the Gawyne during his time in the Duchy so he was glad the man was interesting.
Once pointed in the right direction and finished with his farewells Xander would make his way to the room and unpack what he had brought for his time there before washing and then resting on the bed that had been provided and was prepared for his use. Napping and relaxing as he thought about what would end up on the agenda for the rest of his visit, it was likely he would be spending time with Hunter and being shown around the Duchy. He was sure he would discover some of the places curiosities and famous sites but his true interest would be in Hunter and what he wished for his future.
