Shooting pirates out of cannons sounded a bit...extreme. It did seem that Ae'garn shared the same sentiments on pirates as them. Though, as much as they hated pirates, they couldn't quite outright say they kill any of them. Injure, yes, and then send on their way. The story the sev'ryn man told sounded pretty exciting, though. Much more than their own. "I was fortunate in not being harmed," they responded. Their smile was not as delighted as the statement would have called for.

"Indeed, they do worry about those things." They had had a good childhood, they'd admit. While they were not exposed to all that someone else growing up on the island might have, they had been healthy and seen enough. It was likely that they'd be entirely different had they been raised differently. What might they have become? Brows furrowed, they considered the question with minimal interest. Certainly, they might have been worse off than they already were. Or perhaps they would have been more hardened, braver. Would they have been selfish, a blight to society? Unlikely. They left the existential questioning, pushing the inquiry deep within the back of their mind. It would plague them at a later date, but for now they would focus not the task at hand.

They smiled, pleased with his opinion of them. Most often, they felt a sense of unease when they thought of how someone might see them. It felt like too much to ask someone directly, though it meant that they might never know what that person thought of them. A great deal of anxiety would soon fill them at just the idea of it being some negative view, but at least they did not have to worry about Ae'garn. Unless he was merely being polite at this time. Nope; best not to look into it and take it at face value.

However, they could be no assistance with mounts. "I, sadly, have no tricks to share with you," they replied sheepishly, "I guess it would be best to allow your mount to fly as it wishes? Too much strain on it could tire it out more quickly, and we have a bit of a distance to cover."

I love the combination of well mannered, friendly and wary that you managed to portray in this thread! Amaris has changed in the last year, but at the same time remains resolutely them, which is a real compliment to your writing. A lovely thread, shame the two of you didn't write together more.
