Making Home In The Void

Patrick raised an eyebrow once he'd heard Wendell scoff at his remark, apparently what Patrick was up to didn't seem to count as an important. Either way it didn't change the matter at hand; the only amount of time he could be given would be a break, one full break before the opportunity to go home would set sail.

How long would he have to wait then? Another season perhaps? How quickly could he come up with a believable lie to Crowley, return here to pack the rest of his shit, and then break for the docks where his friend would be waiting?
Surely a break's worth of time should be enough, and given how serious Wendell projected himself, Patrick would have little spare time to dick around. "That's all I need, see ya in a break." He repeated as he scooted his chair back and headed for the door, there existed little point in sitting around when he had things to do. Patrick left to go do what he intended to do first, made his way to Crowley's estate expecting to find the man's servant there to answer.

Instead there was only a door cracked open, wide enough to allow Patrick to prudently enter the premises. He found Mr. Barnes face down in a pool of his own blood within the foyer, while all the decorative collections Crowley had were scattered about. Had somebody committed a robbery? This was very bad timing to say the least; he probably should've ran and left the scene as is, yet part of him remained determined to locate those research notes. "Cro..." Patrick started to mutter the mans name, but refrained from further letting his tone carry out.

What if the robbers were still here? Or worse... what if they heard him now? Patrick gulped and the foyer grew chillier just by standing in it, he had a deadline to keep but there existed a dilemma before him...

One Break Later

The docks were busy but Patrick remembered where he had to be, Wendell made it clear to meet there after all. His entire body shook and for once, he couldn't decide whether it was because of the cold... or because of how anxious he was. Paranoid even. With his bags packed and equipment strapped Patrick had everything he needed, his weaponry as well as exploration gear; all of it bundled up as he marched down towards the platform.

When he saw Wendell in sight he finally whistled to the man, his face slightly paled as he feigned a friendly grin. "Sorry if I'm runnin' late, had some loose ends t' tie up." He remarked when he approached the group that was there.

All three of them had been waiting in the shadows, Haraji having returned to the docks only moments before Patrick, who he had been following. The man whistled and all three of them stepped out of shadows, there went their cover. Sugar rolled her eyes, arms wrapped about a sack of rice they couldn't afford to get wet.

“That one,” Haraji pointed to the schooner with red sails. “It will mean a bounty for all of us if we are caught.”

“We won't sail right into Rharne,” Wendell told them. “We can walk from the coast.”

Sugar agreed with a nod, she would have agreed to anything if it meant getting her home.

“Ladies first,” Haraji said, and pushed Patrick into the water, mainly because he was annoyed the man had outed them when they were meant to have remained quiet. Now they had to hurry.

Wendell climbed in and accepted the rice from Sugar, using his legs and one arm to swim towards the boat while the other held the rice out of the water. Haraji followed and was given the flour, and Sugar ended up taking the potatoes which they didn't mind getting wet.

Aboard the boat, they kept low, and Wendell drew his axe, prepared in case they ran into trouble. “Oh, too perfect,” Haraji mouthed as they entered the cabin where a man and his wife were sleeping. “If we take them with us it won't look like theft.”

“Shit,” Wendell mouthed, he wasn't in the business of kidnapping people. “Fine, gag ‘em and tie ‘em up.”

With their new boat acquired and the occupants secured, they set to work. Wendell undid the sails and Haraji took the helm. There wasn't much wind, so Wendell opted to climb back into the freezing water and give the boat a push, a rope tied about his waist to make sure he could be pulled back to the ladder where he climbed aboard again. There he got out of his wet clothes, stripping right down to his skins before wrapping up in a blanket.

Once they were clear of Ne’haer’s docks, they were free to celebrate their success, but the journey had only just begun.
