[Cally’s] Food for the Heart

Nodding at Trudi and all the things she said, Kali listened with interest at the description of the foods. She’d never heard of a single meal being broken into three parts, it seemed lavish. Then again, the whole point of Cally’s was to be a bit lavish. When the waitress left, she shot Pash a wide smile as he implied that by knowing her name meant he knew her, half giggling in her reply.
"Knowing someone by name alone doesn't make you no longer strangers." Glancing up as the wine arrived she picked up the half full drink before her delicately, feeling worried the thin stem of the glass would snap in her hands as she lifted it to take a sip. The alcoholic beverage was not sweet like the World's End offering but neither was it bitter like the ale, instead it was a bright almost refreshing taste with an undercurrent of grapes that left the brunette unsure if she liked or disliked it. She took another sip before setting it down, not entirely sure how quickly the drink would affect her and not wanting a repeat of the Worlds End.
Well, not right away at least.
Listening to the bard as he continued, Kali'rial nodded as he spoke of his family. She'd remembered mostly correct, but some things were new. The huntress hasn't known about him having siblings, and the mention of his grandfather gave her cause to smile, feeling a sort of connection to the man through his words. Picking up the glass again to take a sip, the brunette looked at the sun kissed minstrel over the rim with a chuckle.
"Maybe ambush is too strong a word. Caught me...off guard." She conceded, blushing at his words that eluded to the events on The Muse and dropping her periwinkle gaze to the table as she sipped again. Putting the glass down, she turned it slowly with the tips of her fingers, watching the light catching the pale amber liquid within.
"I think you're doing a pretty good job, what with making people happy and being entertaining. Look at where we are, where you work. All those people who listen without listening to the music you play, enjoying their meals and still able to talk without being drowned out by the entertainment." Moving her hands to the shawl, Kali nervously adjusted it to sit in the centre, before resting them in her lap.
"And you've kept me..entertained." The word was innocent enough, but it was clear the Sev'ryn was playing the double meaning of words back on the Biqaj. As their food arrived, Kali laughed and shifted to sit straighter in her seat, the shawl falling off her shoulder again.
"Yes, your turn." She said looking up with a blush, before exploring the entree's visually. The layout was almost too picturesque to destroy by eating it. Picking up her fork, the young brunette selected various items on the plate and tasted them one by one with looks of surprise, followed by little sounds of delight. By the Immortals, this is amazing, she thought as she finished a mouthful, sitting back and dabbing at her mouth in a mimicry of the man before her. Picking up her wine, Kali swirled it as she waited for Pash to relay back his recounting of what she'd shared with him, taking a sip for good measure. The wine had just begun to brush the depths of her senses, like the feathery tickle of a warm breeze. She nodded at his words about leaving home and searching for her familiar, shooting him a playful pout at the serious comment.
"Hey, it's important to follow the rules and take things seriously, at least for a little while. We can't all be happy-go-lucky sailing musicians out looking for a good time." Her pout turned into a smile, shaking her head and putting down the glass again as he continued. The southerner blushed under his sudden compliments, unsure how to take them. She didn't think she was bold or brave, if she was it wouldn't have been handfuls of ten-trials before they'd spoken again. As he asked about familiars, the brunette made a curious sound in her throat and leant back on the chair, trying to think how best to start.
"Sev'ryn were once a different people, a long time ago. When Lisirra destroyed Moseke's people, the Mother was distraught. She brought us back, reconnected our souls with our bodies. Old Souls that were present at the beginning when then Plague killed us the first time. But before she brought us back, the spirits of Desnind kept us company and kept us sane in the Emea. When we came back, these spirits were somehow tied into our very being. Bonded with us. These are the Osẹ-bori, or Familiars as you know them." Leaning forward, she rested her laced hands on the table, keeping his emerald gaze with her own as she continued.
"Now when our bodies die, when we return to then cycle, our Osẹ-bori remain here and roam Idalos until our soul is reincarnated into a new body. A new person. Then, when the time comes we journey to find our Familiar and Bond with them to become whole again. We can see and speak to our Familiars, and see parts of our past lives, in here." Tapping her temple, Kali continued.
"We can also meld with them, become one through Connection, and roam the world in their body. This can be dangerous if the Familiar is killed or injured our bodies are also." Her eyes looked distant for a moment, thinking on the teaching of her Elders.
"If our Familiar dies, half of our soul will be lost in Emea forever. Not having a Familiar leaves you feeling...incomplete. Restless. The only way to find it is to journey. Somewhere along the way, our Familiar comes to us in a dream and gives us a quest. When this quest is complete, our Familiar will reveal itself and in turn, bond with us." Focusing back on Pash, the huntress smiled before picking up her wine with a small shrug.
"What's it for? It's for restoring a Sev'ryn's soul and making them whole again."
