A Well-Deserved Reprieve [Padraig, please]

"Well, I speak a lil’ common an’ I’m no’ fluent b’ any means, so we’re even there." Pash laughed. Anything to make a joke if it distracted from his terrible handwriting, though it wasn’t as if that seemed to really even get in the way between the two of them.

He found it interesting to consider that the stories he’d been told all his life about the stars would be different between races and cultures, but it made sense. No one viewed the world quite the same way, and so it could be expected that no one would view the night sky the same, either. Biqaj culture and stories were clearly different from Sev’ryn, as he’d come to understand, so he nodded and made note to ask Kali’rial what kinds of things her people saw in the stars in order to compare.

"Well, I’m sure some o’ that’s explained by th’ Immortals t’ someone. No’ that they’re all honest, either, I’d bet. I’m sure a few tell stories for themselves jus’ like mortals do, eh?" Pash chuckled, only naively aware of the conflict between powers greater than himself, but confident that even they had shortcomings and biases, no matter how perfect they longed to be seen as in the eyes of mortality. It was true that much of storytelling sought to explain the unexplainable or at least make those unexplainable things bearable, interesting, or worth remembering, "I’ve seen plenty that’s unexplainable, y’know, but at th’ same time, I know ‘f magic an’ I’ve met Immortals face t’ face. No’ everyone can say they’ve done that, ourselves an’ exception an’ no’ a rule."

Everyone had to start somewhere, even with a song or an instrument. There had been a time when the tall Biqaj was convinced he’d be nothing more than a shipwright’s son after all, and while he would always be the son of a shipwright by nature of his birth, he wasn’t bound to the shipyard any more.

Pash admitted to not knowing much about Venora or Rynmere at all, having perhaps seen the capital Andaris once or twice in his travels over the arcs, preferring to visit places that were perhaps a bit more, well, free-loving, if that was possible. Scalvoris was perhaps as frontier as one could get, he offered, and when he’d left Ne’Haer for the last time just under an arc ago, he’d simply wanted to sail as far as he could. So he did. And there had, he admitted, been no experiences in his life thus far like the ones he’d had on the island,

“Though I hate t’ say ’t, this be m’ last season here on Scalvoris.” The seafaring musician admitted quietly, setting the pen down once he’d exhausted his knowledge and memory, calloused fingers lingering curiously over the star charts instead, “Travel calls, an’ I feel more than a lil’ compelled t’ answer.”

Tutor? While Padraig appeared maybe a handful of arcs younger than himself, if at all, he was clearly more accomplished in ways that Pash was not. Had the tall Biqaj been a different sort of creature, maybe this would have gotten under his tanned, inked skin if he thought about it, but he was comfortable enough in who he was, even who he had once been, that such things washed past the hull of his thoughts without snagging at the tiller.

He might have chuckled about the view of the stars, "Nah. Th’ Orm’del’s better, but Scalvoris be a close second. Surely you’ve seen th’ view from a boat if you’ve traveled here from Rynmere? If no’, y’ should. There’s nothin’ in th’ way an’ when th’ moons are new instead o’ full, y’ can almost be blinded by th’ stars instead."

Because of his Competency in Empathy magic, Pash exudes an aura of calm emotion that is always "on." While it's not strong enough to overcome extreme emotions and it also loses strength the more people he's around, it's still up to you how that affects your character in whatever situation we're in. A Well-Deserved Reprieve [Padraig, please]

When Pash referenced his grasp of the common language, Padraig merely smiled and shrugged. "Well your grasp of common far exceeds my own of Rakahi. I can get by in a pinch. What I was able to pick up of it was mostly gained by hanging round the docks when I was a kid, instead of taking care of the things my grandfather had sent me out to do." But, the scholar explained, language to him was also a science of sorts, and as such had interested him to an extent. Surely not so strongly as alchemy or physics. But an interest all the same.

As for the Immortals, Pash made a point, and Pad frowned a little in response. "I suspect, if they were asked, claims made by each might differ from those of another. Perspective, ego, they're not so unlike us I think sometimes, as they are different." Certainly more powerful, but that was a topic for another time. As for what was unexplained, what was magic and what was reality...It was just that which compelled Padraig to study. "Surely there are things around us that, due to study and growing knowledge, that we can explain now...But which had once been considered to be magic." That in a nutshell perhaps, was why he'd chosen his particular line of work.

"You'll be leaving?" he asked, beginning to put his work away when Pash mentioned it. "There's a lot of the world to see," he conceded. "Your means of travel is also your home in a manner of speaking. You've never quite struck me as the type to settle in once place for long." As for the stars, he confessed that he'd viewed them from a number of different locations. "The best views are where the skies are darkest, therefore all the better to see the stars and more of them. In the city with its lamps lit and windows glowing, not so much."

There was no denying that, but ultimately Padraig was expected at home and he smiled, finally having gathered up his books and materials. He stood, smiling and offering a hand across the table to Pash. "It was good running into you Pash. Good conversation is always a welcome diversion. I probably should be heading home before someone sends a search party after me." With that, he'd excuse himself and make his way out of the library in order to return home.

“Well, there’s prob’ly also a lot more that goes on that’s actual magic than we choose t’ see.” Pash countered with a broad grin, aware of such implications if only because he, himself was a part of that unseen.

Shifting in his seat to allow Padraig to gather his things, the seafaring musician nodded, “Aye, I won’t say I’m one t’ be settled ’n a place, no. However, Kali’rial has her familiar t’ follow, it’s call apparently leadin’ her elsewhere, an’ I feel a need t’ head home t’ Ne’Haer again. T’ see m’ family an’, well, maybe build a bigger boat.” there was mischief in that, an implied admission of all of his future intentions when it came to the dark-haired Sev’ryn, but one which Pash was still much more comfortable playing close to his chest instead of living out loud. Not for his sake entirely, but still.

He chuckled at the other man’s farewell, shaking his hand and understanding he had places to be and someone expecting him sooner rather than later, Des’penya—no worries. It’s better t’ spend time in conversation than combat, anyways. Have a good night, then.”

Not in the same rush, he’d settle back into his seat and squint at the books set on his table, perhaps a bit more motivated to make the effort to read them than he’d been before.

Comment[/b]]Wow - Pash does the nerd-dance. Love it, love it. I enjoyed seeing a different side to Pash here, although he was very obviously and recognizably himself. Lovely dialogue, very much enjoy the relationship between the two pcs, it's a really interesting dynamic the two of you write. Great work, as always, give me a pm if I've missed anything.

Comment[/b]] Thanks for the pm - knowledges awarded. A fun thread where I enjoyed seeing a slightly less serious side of Pad, he seemed almost British in comparison (joke!). Anyhow, a great read.
