"What if I fall?"
Oh but darling
What if you fly?
Oh but darling
What if you fly?

Silence and the flickering of candlelight surrounded them, Noth’s contemplation a heavy weight that seemed to press upon the room. Navyri waited, her right wing shifting so that she could see him over her shoulder, his expression unreadable to the Naer. He fought emotions that moved too quickly beneath his intimidating armet for her to read, and she tensed, feeling fingertips trail along her wings. It was a gentle contemplation. Did he see her as a threat, as the Etzori did? A weapon? Unfamiliar with the pinion being touched since their revival, they were sensitive, feathers ruffling where his fingers trailed until Navyri snapped the wing shut and bent to retrieve her covering.
We both know I was not meant to fly, she thought bitterly, unable to answer his question. These wings… they would be dead weight until she learned to control them, making answering his question a tricky one. She remained silent, staring ahead as she pulled the sheet back over her shoulders, the last flashes of her skin draped in cloth, “Any difficulties?”
The Naer moved elegantly back to where she had been perched, smiling. She had faced many challenges, and would likely face many more. He did not know of Balaera, or of the Miasma. Or even of the enemies she had acquired over her years. How could he help her with what was to come? With what was happening to her now? Navyri looked to the mirror and was reminded of her strange appearance, laughing, although the mirth did not sound genuine, “Do you always offer such personal assistance to your lackeys or am I just a unique case?”
Her smiled melted and she sighed, waving towards the door with a nod, “As you said, I am an excellent thief. I will be a good smuggler, and I am already a benefit. This is just… something new to handle,” she paused, reminded of flight (and her lack of knowledge) and continued, “Marrow made me an offer - gold, protection, and a safe place if I find myself in need of one. I’ll help you in exchange for that, and as for the rest… well, let’s just see what happens. I’d hate to be a bother so soon in our arrangement.”
She crossed her legs, and leaned back, “I appreciate the offer, but I have a dozen difficulties, some of which I haven’t even scratched the surface of,” Her hand idly ran along the arm, now stamped with the red chain, peeking through her Tarouz blessing, and staining the skin of her shoulder, “If that is something you can understand, then congratulations… You found yourself a new smuggler.”
