Thread(s):Serenity & Serendipity
Participants: Elisabeth & Balthazar
Brief description of thread: This is an introduction to the Ashwoods! Balth and Elisa find the Phoenix Wood (and discuss how to go about making baby trees) and are introduced to the Kazan Fowl and get a glimpse of the Red Cervus. Mostly to set the scene for later threads involving all three and to introduce Balth and Elisa's thinking regarding appropriate resource management.

Thread(s): Woodcutting Warriors
Somebody's Watching Me
Participants: Balthazar Black (technically just him)
Brief description of thread: Woodcutting Warriors - While Elisabeth spends her day leaving little clues around Haven, Balthazar starts the logging operation in the Ashwoods near their settlement. He marks the largest trees to have them cut down to converted into lumber for building then assists with cutting down the first tree. While cutting down the first phoenix tree from the Ashwoods, he collects the bark and cut away wood to bring to the research center to see if they can find out anything unique about the wood.
Somebody's Watching Me - Balthazar delivers the wood to the research center and gives it to them to look at as a gift. He looked for Elisabeth for a little while, checking in on people from his settlement, and then he goes back to help the woodcutting crew finish trimming and cutting the tree.

Thread(s): [Haven] Bare Necessities and Hobbies
Participants: Balthazar Black
Brief description of thread: Balthazar builds a new house for Elisabeth and himself in Haven. In my review, I gave him the following consequences:
The Element reports to the Albarech that Balthazar confirmed that his new house cost more than anything that the settlers have when he (the Element) remarked that it was better than the homes of the settlers.

Please tell Kura about this here.

Furthermore, some of Balthazar’s settlers are not happy with the fact that their leader has decided to build a nice house for Elisabeth and himself while they lost everything during the volcanic eruption.
I thought that you should know.

 ! Message from: Balthazar Reports
Okay, due to the sheer volume of reports, and how many of them are along the same lines, we're going to divide this up into to sections, first the ones Kura would directly reply to on an individual level, and the ones she'd do as a whole group. I'm also using summaries of what she's replying to, rather than listing individual reports or threads.

Individual Responses

"Balthazar wants to go into the Badlands": Kura sends a quick note telling him not too, then shortly afterwards sends a longer note giving more detail on what a massive clustercluck the Badlands are and advising him to maybe build some defenses in that direction. The first note arrives a day after he expresses interest in going to the Badlands, the second a few days later.

"The Seasonal Event Threads": Balthazar will get a note telling him to get all of his people into a single building so they can keep warm better, and that he should not interfere with the animals except to save pets. More troops will be arriving to help secure Haven against a possible attack. Current conditions are the outcome of the various attacks Scalvoris has endured the past several years, and she's working on solving it. This is an almost identical note to the one she sent to all the other towns, villages, and Hopetoun. There is also a smaller note informing him that, as of when she sent the note, Elisabeth is safe. This happens a a few hours after his request for information.

"Ghosts": Kura skips the copper and bells, instead pulls on her contacts from the War of Death and Souls to get some Zuuda to come deal with Haven's ghost problem. She sends a note saying to treat the Zuuda nicely and not to interfere with them, as they know best how to deal with matters ectoplasmic. The Zuuda, and the accompanying note, arrive a few days after the request.

"Sending Farmers to pick up farm stuff": Kura releases a stockpile of seeds and farming equipment to the farmers Balthazar sends, along with a pamphlet of advice on farming that she had the university assemble, since she had the stores set aside when the Settlements were formed.

Collective Response

A few days prior to the sudden storms and freeze, Balthazar will receive the following letter from Kura.

"To Flame Trooper Balthazar Black, leader of the Haven Settlement

The reports I have received from you observers are, all told, quite distressing. While I hardly expect you to be happy about your situation, it will be no one's doing but your own if you choose to do nothing to improve it. Attempting to outsmart the psychologist will, quite simply put, be nothing but counterproductive. Moreover, I would strongly recommend against any further attempts to rile up the people of Haven. They are as much Scalvonite citizens as the people living on the mainland, and if you attempt to convince them otherwise, it will only lead to tragedy and harm.

As to the development of Haven itself, there are supplies available to both Haven and Hopetoun. Please do make use of them, as it was never my intention, nor that of Saoire or Faldrass, to simply throw some Scalvonite settlers on a wrecked island and tell them to fend for themselves. However, the use of these materials will be monitered. They are for the improvement of the settlement as a whole, and while houses are part of that, building yourself a big house so you can brag about your position is not, in any way, an improvement of the settlement.

Next, as to your position itself. I will not tolerate much more of this behavior. I sympathize with your frustrations in having your powers sealed, but it is not well done that you should vent them on the settlers you were asked to lead or on miss Angelus. Do not let your temper stifle them by refusing to allow them access to benefits that being part of Scalvoris gives them. If you are not fit to lead the settlement of Haven, then they will be entrusted to someone who is. Also, your position does not give the power to impose regulations on Scalvonite academic and research institutions. You do not have any powers that are not granted to the village council representatives, and in truth, you have less as you are not a member of the Council. They are free to collect and study specimens as needed, and their regulation is a Council affair.

Finally, do not ever attempt to keep information that could prove vital to the security of the island a secret again. If you do, the following message will come with a warrant and quite a few Troopers, as that will, with this warning, be considered treason.

Sincerely,
Albarech Kura Mareth

Okay, this is where I take a quick moment to make something very clear. I am not my PC's. I play my PC's very rigidly to their characters, but their actions and words are not my own. Just so as to make sure no one confuses Kura being upset with me being upset.

Please rework this request using the new template, and provide links to threads where these actions take place. There are quite a lot of actions listed here, and i would like to know what consequences you are intending for these to have and evidence of the threads where they happen.

Re: Haven

Announcement

Hello,

Apologies that the change requests have been stacking up a bit recently. I've been ill and there has been some debate as to an issue regarding the settlement system, which required that all changes to profile be suspended.

As a result of these discussions I have implemented a few changes to the settlement system and the testing process:
  • All threads must now be peer reviewed before being submitted on the settlement profile.
  • When submitting a request for a settlement thread, players must now include a short list of what (if any) settlement resources they used in the thread. This could include people, settlement money, buildings, tools or anything else, but if it is not a resource that is listed on the settlement profile then links should be made to the thread in which this reosurce was obtained.
  • Players must also include a short list of the changes they believe their actions should have on the settlement, include changes to population, order, WP or effects. A guide has been posted into the settlement forum listed what appropriate rewards should be recieved from certain actions. Mods reserve final judgement as to whether to approve, deny or alter these requests.
As a result of this, could I please request that all currently unmarked settlement review requests be deleted, and only ones that have already been peer reviewed be resubmitted using this template:

Notice
On the night of the 23rd of Ashan, when Elizabeth falls asleep she has a strange dream. In her dream she is standing in a what looks to be a huge forest of ashen grey trees. It is ancient and muggy, with the ground covered with wet, rotting leaves. All around her there are statues: each one unique, but all of people dressed in fine clothes or armours from every corner of the world reaching towards the centre of the forest; the only place illumtinated by a single ray of moonlight peircing through a hole in the canopy above.

In the centre of the forest sits a throne carved from a large tree stump: simple in design, but carved with symbols she does not recognise. It is crude and ugly, but there is a feeling of weight to their air around it. The specks of dust Elizabeth can see in the ray of light are frozen in midair, as if time itself has been halted by the presence of the throne. Sitting upon the throne is an old skeleton, dry and lifeless. Though the skeleton bears no discrening features, something about it gives Elizabeth the strange feeling that she recognises it. Though she only dreams of this scene for a moment, when she wakes up the day she can remember the image with perfect clarity.

Thread(s): Resource Management 101 - Gardening
Participants: Elisabeth
Brief description of thread: This thread is a continuation of the story regarding the Rubrum Berry, Phoenix Wood, and Faldrass Potato crops. The Rubrum Berry plants that were brought back to Haven are planted in frames and starting to producing tiny new root systems for new plants. The nuts from the Phoenix Wood trees have been planted and put into warm sand frames. The potatoes are in warm sand frames, waiting to produce sprouts to propagate. It's not intended for anything other than to show that Haven is continuing the work on creating stable, rotating crops and understanding the resources that they have and that Elisabeth is following the progress.

Settlement Resources Used:
  • Manpower
Intended Changes:See this guide.
  • The player completes an action that proves they are trustworthy to the settlers (Working with the settlers to solve some of the resource issues, offering support) = +1% Order

Thread(s): The Curious Matter of Baby Trees
Participants: Elisabeth
Brief description of thread: This thread was previous submitted to the tracker here, and given consequences by the peer reviewer that I wanted to make you aware of.

"Consequences The Phoenix trees will take a while to grow; in fact, without magic they will take at least an arc to even emerge from the ground and a number more arcs to develop into proper trees. Once word gets out about the Faldrass potato, settlers will start foraging for them. Since the skin is poisonous, a couple settlers will get sick from eating it (not fatally so, but enough for them to have a couple very bad trials). The effectiveness of the rainbarrel system will depend on the weather in the coming seasons. "

Re: Haven

Thread: Do All Leaders Get Hand Cramps?
Participants: Balthazar Black
Brief description of thread: Balthazar Black writes letters to individuals requesting support for Haven. Rita from Haven Farm writes back and sends him supplies. I submit this thread already and you have reviewed it. At the time it did not qualify for settlement growth however in the review consequences for it, Rita has responded with aid. Here is what is says: "Ria writes back quickly. She explains that, regretfully, she cannot spare much in the way of grain seed (she got his letter immediately after the spring wheat planting); however, she can do much better on the vegetable front. Sometime 30ish Ashan, seeds arrive of the following varieties: radishes, tomatoes, peppers, peas, beans. Anyone any good at farming will tell Balthazar that there are enough seeds for Haven to achieve self-sufficiency in these legumes and vegetables by next cycle, if the farmers know what they’re doing. Turning a surplus in radishes and tomatoes before the end of the arc is a possibility. There are also boxes of wheat, oats, and corn, enough for a combined couple acres of these; better than nothing, but nowhere near what Haven would need to be self-sufficient."
Settlement Resources Used:
  • None
Intended Changes:
  • The player completes an action that proves they are trustworthy to the settlers = +1% Order
  • The player discovers a new resource that is mined, harvested, dug up or otherwise collected directly from nature, and instructs settlers on how to gather it = Include the resource in their Primary Resources section of the settlement profile.
  • The player completes an action that would lead to a new cultural quirk, supernatural effect or other notable change to daily life, or acquires a grandmaster level skill or supernatural ability that would affect the day-to-day lives of their settlers = Create an effect relevant to the change and add it to the settlement effects list. (Balthazar has reached Grandmaster Leadership and has a capstone that improves a key skill that small groups he works with use. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to come up with the effect and suggest it or leave it to you so I'm just mentioning it here.)
 ! Message from: Trouble
Accepted. As a result of this thread, Haven has gained:
  • +1% Order.
  • Primary resource: Radishes
  • Primary resource: Tomates
  • Primary resource: Peppers
  • Primary resource: Peas
  • Primary resource: Beans
  • Primary resource: Wheat
  • Primary resource: Oats
  • Primary resource: Corn
  • Effect: Taskmaster: When Balthazar is using his taskmaster capstone ability in a thread, the task his settlers are currently working on can be completed as if they are one skill level higher than they really are in the skill most relevant to the task. This effect cannot be stacked with other effects that increase the skill levels of PCS or NPCs.
  • Effect: Debt to Ria: Haven owes a considerable debt of gratitude to Ria of Haven Farm. When she calls this favour in Haven had better repay it, or else lose the trust of anyone else they ask for help in the future.

Re: Haven

Thread: A Fence In Need of Mending
Participants: Balthazar Black
Brief description of thread: Balthazar calls a gathering of his settlers in response to a letter from the Albarech. He gives a speech with the intention to promote unity between Haven and the mainland and offers his settlers his home to house them during the unnatural chill that has settled over Scalvoris. The feedback about Balthazar's speech was "The speech doesn’t actually change much, tbh. It doesn’t actually address any underlying problems, which didn't include a shortage of lectures about teamwork; it just lets people know what Balthazar wants. By the time Ziell’s freezy-truce wears off, the two factions will be back to hating each other’s guts. The most meaningful thing that happens here is Balth’s offer to let settlers stay warm in his house. For the duration of the Ziell thing (until Ashan 38) the house will be fairly crowded with settlers taking up their governor’s invitation to keep warm there. The proximity of that many people means that Balthazar will have even less privacy than usual, and there will be low grade roommate friction among the various temporary residents."
Settlement Resources Used: Intended Changes:
  • The player completes an action that directly protects the settlers from harm. (Housing them together in his home to protect them from the cold.) = +3% Order or The player completes an action that proves they are trustworthy to the settlers. (Housing them in his own home to protect them from the cold.) =1%
  • The player completes an action that would lead to a new cultural quirk, supernatiral effect or other notable change to daily life, or acquires a grandmaster level skill or supernatural ability that would affect the day-to-day lives of their settlers. (Speech was intended to remove the civil friction effect, reviewer determined that it would not however I am mentioning this in case there is another effect it could cause as he has done what he did to cause the civil friction.) = Create an effect relevant to the change and add it to the settlement effects list.
 ! Message from: Trouble
Accepted. As a result of this thread, Haven has gained:
  • +2% Order. (Balthazar stopped his settlers from being cold, which solves a problem. However directly saving their lives would be something like fighting off a bandit raid: something that places them in immediate danger.)
