by Lei'lira

Lei'lira stirred and woke at the sound of a man yelling loudly. Feeling better than she had the last time she'd been awake, but still disoriented by the chaos, she lay listening to him shout orders for several bits as she gathered her own wits, and took stock of herself. All signs of...whatever the mysterious illness she'd been struck down with were gone.
Chaos still reigned all around her, though. People, patients, and healers alike were panicking. Some were still trying to flee, trampling over any who got in their way in their haste. Others were trying to subdue those who had begun attacking others in their delusions. A few seemed to be trying to work around the panic, helping the injured as best they could.
Fire burned all around them, threatening the shelter that stood against them, and the freezing cold outside the walls. Someone was organizing a group of people to put the fire out. But Lei'lira didn't know what their chances were of getting the fire out in time to save the patients. So when someone cut a hole in the tent wall, Lei'lira picked up one of the patients who were hurt too badly to move on their own.
"We've got to get the injured to safety until that fire's under control!" she yelled, uncertain if anyone would hear her over the chaos.
Then she carried the young woman she'd picked up out through the hole in the wall of the tent. There was no good place to put her, so she set the woman down in the snow several yards away from the healers tent where it was unlikely that she would be in danger of the fire. Then she went back for more.
One by one, she carried out as many of the patients as she could. She worked steadily, not stopping to see if anyone else was helping to get the patients to safety. When some of the patients who had been running around in panic saw what she was doing, some followed her outside. A few even stopped long enough to pick up one of the more critically injured patients, and carry them out as they saved themselves.

Alex looked around in shock as the illusion disappeared.
It had all been so real- the men and women convulsing, shaking or screaming as fever or madness overtook them. Yet in an instant, it all disappeared. Alex watched as a pair of men got to their feet, one of them beginning to yell to the madness that had taken over the tent.
Whatever had caused the Illusion must be nearby. Alex helped out at first, carefully cutting down a full wall of the burning fabric, before darting out into the snow. The screams from the medics tent were lessened now, and the other helpers had stopped the flames from spreading. A woman was still helping move the injured outside, and several of those less injured were helping out. The smoke inside would have been thick by now, and it may not have been obvious how much of the flames had been snuffed out.
Alex turned and looked around. What was she looking for? A flicker of movement caught her eye, and she turned and darted towards the gap between tents. Alex paused for a moment and shot a look back at the medic tent.
What am I doing?
This was madness. She should be helping out. But really, why did she want to? It would be total mayhem in there- no one would remember her name if she were there now. And whatever this was, she needed, no, wanted to find out what had happened. The strength of that...it was unlike anything she had ever seen.
The fact that it hadn't impacted Alex was the part that struck her- for whatever reason, her being a Yludih was the only explanation she could see. She had brushed the arm of the sick woman, yet... yet she hadn't fallen ill. Alex turned back to the shadow and followed it.
Whatever it was, she was on its trail now.

Moseke was dead. Moseke...was dead. The Immortal that Tei'serin loved more than anything was dead. Tei'serin's entire world narrowed down to that one single thought as the icy chill of shock and horror overwhelmed her. She couldn't move. She couldn't breathe, either. And it didn't matter in the slightest, because Moseke was dead. Nothing else mattered. Only...she wasn't dead. In the blink of an eye, Moseke's image was replaced by the dead body of a nurse she had seen working in the shelter before. The woman had helped her sort some of their supplies earlier that trial. Tei'serin stared blankly at the nurse's corpse, trying to wrap her mind around what had just happened.
Fire was burning all around her. That was the first thing that Tei'serin noticed once she realized that the plague everyone had been stricken with had vanished as suddenly as it had come. It must have been as fake as Moseke, because no illness could possibly run its course so quickly. Someone was trying to organize people to fight the fire while others were carrying the injured out to safety.
Tei'serin considered helping the latter group for a few bits, but in the end she decided against it. There were several people helping with that task already. Instead, Tei'serin raced over to their supplies, and began saving as many of them as she could. Herbs, salves, medicines, bandages...saving such things were just as important as rescuing the patients. Nothing could be done to help the injured who managed to survive if all of their supplies were consumed by the fire.
As Tei'serin headed back inside for her third trip, she saw a woman cackling madly as she set fire to everything she could. Beds, tent walls, the corpses that now seemed to vastly outnumber those who were still living...nothing within reach was spared the woman's insane obsession. Why was she still lost in the grip of madness? The plague had been...Tei'serin didn't really know what the plague had been. But it was gone now, so the woman shouldn't be caught in the delusions of the false fever anymore. Had the illness driven her into true madness? Or could the woman be working with their enemy?
Tei'serin didn't know. What she did know was that the woman needed to be stopped. So she grabbed a pot that had been used to make more bruise balm before all of this madness had started, and snuck up behind the woman. Tei'serin was used to moving quietly, so her task was easier than it might have been. Especially with the chaos raging all around them, and the roar of the fire masking what sound her feet did make as she approached the mad woman from behind.
When she was close enough, she struck the woman over the head with the small pot. The woman dropped, stunned by the blow she never saw coming. Tei'serin stared at the fallen woman for a bit, fearing that she'd go back to setting fires the moment she turned away, but the woman didn't move. She looked around for some rope, wanting to tie the mad woman up in case she woke up, but she couldn't find any. And there really wasn't much time for her to keep searching. So when she still couldn't find any rope after a couple of more bits, Tei'serin left the unconscious woman where she was in favor of rescuing some more of their supplies.

The taste of vomit was something Rita tried to avoid, the crying of the dying and the screams of the dying clouded her mind as she fell to a crouch trying not to succomb. And it was over.
...It just stopped. Rita slowly opened her eyes and the plague was gone, madness slowly subsiding as everyone realised they had been fooled, there was no plague, there wasn't even an immortal with them it was just anouther pawn of their deadly game. Her hand hurt, stave gripped tightly as she tried to contain everything... but gave up
"DAMN IT!" A table flying as she lashed out, a bed with a corupse and finally the tent fabric with her hunting knife. She cursed with every word she knew, even thouse in different tongues came out in common. Letting every drop of anger out cursing the immortals, mages, anyone she felt responsible for the madness around her.
"stupid warriors just charging in recklessly getting all the glory, all the blessings. The songs are sung of their heroism in mead halls long after. What do we get! Nothing. No one defends us. No immortal aiding in our fight. At least half our number is dead and we are on fire! Why do we get no help!" The last table went flying, she held herself enough not to put anyone in danger as she finished off her rage. Someone with military experience was attempting to regain order nearby. Her hands were shaking too much to actually help any wounded but she assessed the tent would be an ashy heap quickly.
"Friend, get those you rally to prioritise stopping the spread whilst I get these patients out. We can't save this tent." Directing to the military man, turning to those around her watching the ithecal with fear. She could use that.
"All of you, get as many patients and supplies out as possible before they all burn-up. Wheel them out if you have to. Move!" Slithering as close to the fire as she could, keeping low and grabbing the first alive person. Grabbing them by the shoulders and dragging them back before slinging the unfortunate over her shoulders. Those she had rallied, by fear or otherwise, began following her lead, removing the patients closest to the inferno first.
"Come on, save all you can!" Gasping for breath as she came into the cold open air, clear of smoke. Looking back on the burning tent. As angry as she was, Rita was not one to form a tantrum and storm off when there were people in need.

Thank you all for taking part in this thread. It was great fun to moderate and I hope you all enjoyed it. Despite my first post, the simple truth is that songs and stories will be told of what happened in this tent and each one of you has earned fame for your actions here. The actions here will go down in folklore and legend.
Please do PM me if you've got any questions
