Plot Note Request Form:
Character Name: Brent Forrester
Resident or Visitor: Resident
Your Suggested Plot: Looking to participate in the construction of a new building or repair an existing building that got damaged due to something. I'm flexible on the details, although it would be really cool to have an impact on a calendar event plot for the next cycle (e.g. in Ashan).
Possible Impact: Brent may start getting a name for himself, as a builder/designer.

Re: Plot Notes Request

Since Strange is on hiatus, I'm going to be handling this plot proposal. I wish you'd asked if any of this was viable before going to all this work of writing it up, because so little of it makes sense in terms of Melrath lore.Plot Note Request Form:
Character Name: Azrael Blackfire
Resident or Visitor: Visitor? (He was in Yaralon and it closed so he came here.)
Your Suggested Plot: I've titled this plot "The Hunt For The Ether-Forge"
This plot, in short, will not work. I'll go through the reasons here.
The Ydalir is not a mercenary group for hire. They exist to protect Melrath from incursions from Outlanders and Immortal-worshipers and to protect the spirits. There's no way, on hearing what you're planning (presuming they don't think you're crazy, talking about 'ether-weapons') that they'd help you much less allow you to claim such a powerful resource that can be turned to the defense of Melrath.
Ether-weapons are not something that currently is developed. THat's not to say they couldn't exist, but it'd take a hugely powerful blacksmith or something similar (Think tier 2 smithing). There can't be an ether forge, that allows lesser smiths to make ether weapons. Likely it's the sort of thing that it'd take tier 2 to actually know how to use. So you're likely chasing a rumor or an old wives tale.
It seems a bit convenient that a grendel single-handedly killed everyone that might've stopped you from claiming the prize you're seeking. If ether-weapons were a thing, it'd seem it'd help against a grendel at the very least. The risk vs reward is not lining up here, and it seems like the group is just stumbling from one lucky encounter to another.- In the Wilds they'd find The Guilder Cult Settlement and the connected cave that Floren Guilder used to craft his ether-weapons. However the settlement will be in ruin with many long dead bodies laying around as if some mass ritual suicide occurred. Yet in other parts of the settlement it will be more clear that the villagers were killed by beast attacks (a grendel in the cave). One final time they will encounter the group of rival treasure hunter NPCs, perhaps a few bandits, and then from the cave a grendel. Should the party endure these encounters and explore the cave they'll fine the forge itself collapsed and destroyed, the schematics for the weapons now gone forever. However further exploration will reveal an armory where each player will be able to loot an ether weapon or two to fit their play style. There would only be 5 undamaged and usable weapons though so it could cause conflict between players trying to determine who gets what at the end of the hunt. I call that the Season 8 moment when the party you've been rooting for might just completely turn on each other for the loot.
So I'm going to have to say no to this particular plot. There's just too much that goes against Melrath lore in it as it stands.

Re: Plot Notes Request

Hey Brent, I'm a little pressed for attention so I can't really give you as detailed a plot as Strange might, but there's certainly plenty of building opportunities in Melrath for you to get on with:Brent Forrester wrote: Sat Jan 18, 2020 4:20 am Plot Note Request Form:

Brent has recently received a commission to work on THE Winter Lodgehouse for the Svariella encampment.
But all is not exactly well with that. Although the Children of Myrkvior have been held in check by the Ragnari, there are still cells that cause damage here or there. He may find that his efforts to build are surreptitiously thwarted or sabotaged by mysterious characters.
The Ragnari are not willing to help guard the settlement for whatever reason, but he may find there are mercenaries travelling through Melrath that are willing to guard him and his building efforts.
Should he succeed in the building of the Winter Lodgehouse, he'll be well rewarded with renown and further contracts down the road. Perhaps even one of the Jarls may take notice and commission buildings from him!
So this should take you several threads or major plot points to accomplish, if you like you can do them in less:
1. There's the acquisition of the commission to build the lodgehouse.
2. There's the actual set up and logistics of gathering materials, finding a source, drafting the architecture.
3. Then there's the actual buildings, with all the difficulty that comes from that.
4. There's the outcome and the finishing touches to put on the Lodge.
5. ? Maybe one thing drives out another, leading to more building opportunities. Perhaps a foreigner notices Brent's prowess at building and tries to rope him into travelling elsewhere to build?

Re: Plot Notes Request

Heya Folks, so we're all caught up here.
We're locking this thread for now, as Strange is on hiatus and Octopie is having trouble getting online. Once the mod situation is resolved though, we may consider opening it up again. In the meantime, if you have any plot concerns or ideas for things that fall outside the purview of an ordinary thread, feel free to hit the PSF up for feedback on your idea!
Thanks for your patience.

Re: Plot Notes Request

Hey guys, so since I'm going to be pulling up a chair here, I figured I'd reopen this thread to people who wanna get plots jump-started.
That said, when making a plot request, please craft them within reason and respectful of the lore of Melrath and Standing Trials as a whole. I'll try to be gentle, but if something doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever where it's giving you overpowered things or flagrantly out of whack risk vs reward, prepare for it to get the Magic-Dev treatment
I'll try to be gentle, otherwise.
Now that said, I'd really like it if you're detailed about your plot requests. That doesn't mean I'm expecting a novella of an idea out of you, but at least some specifics of what you're looking to get done will go a long way toward me coming up with plots for you to run on your own or with others. For instance plot requests of something like the following: "I want an adventure..." Will often receive an equal measure of effort on my part. I'll still point you in a direction, but you'll want to give me a better idea of what you'd like to do if I'm to point you in a direction that appeals to you.
Thanks for sticking it out in Melrath, and let's get plotting!
