Lonan was, since birth, a slave. Sold by his parents to earn enough money for their own personal gain. Raised into a small and harsh labour encampment on the outskirts of the Eternal Empire, he was immediately raised with a family intended to care for him. Until the age of eight the young boy was treated well, fed well and given a good life from a Biqaj couple. While firm, they were kind and caring, raising him on a good lifestyle. Plenty of food, lots of care and play. Yet the fate that awaited him was much colder than the one he was led to believe. He never had any real freedom and he knew of the slaves that worked, but until he was old enough his life was good.
Yet the man and woman he loved as family were only there to raise him to be a slave, as he learned when he was finally taken from them and set to work. Despite his kicking and screaming, the slavers took him anyway, shipping him away to the mines. Hundreds of miles away from the land he once knew, Lonan was set to work immediately. He was naturally strong and durable, hardworking and powerful with his movements. Swinging down the pickaxe with power. But the trait that really attracted the attention of some was his colder demeanour. Uncaring and unwavering, keeping quiet to himself as the trauma of losing all he loved for this rough treatment shattered his mind. There was little left inside of him to read. But the situation only grew darker for the man, as the lashings began.
They started gently on the boy. But to keep his work hard the men in charge beat and lashed him without mercy. Scars quickly began to cover his back, many of them. Arcs passed of the same treatment and yet the willpower of Lonan only hardened with his body, taking a stronger shape and becoming more durable to the blows he received and the long days he had to work with no reward. But with how hardened his body was becoming, potential buyers of the slaves had their eyes set on him. Regular buyers came by and would watch for long periods of time to see if he would falter. Yet the young boy's stamina remained unbreaking, working tirelessly for as long as they had him work. Every part of him ached and pained, but it was nothing compared to the focus he felt.
During one of the viewings they had, Lonan was aside with other boys who were being given food. It was plentiful but disgusting. All of the younger boys sat along a long bench every day, shoulder to shoulder, eating. Beside him, one of the newer boys spoke with another, each discussing their plans for escape quietly while nobody was around to watch them. Talking about how they could leave this place of torment. Before long, one of them had turned to Lonan to ask for his help, saying that they needed his strength and willpower for the fight. But the ten-year-old boy kept his gaze forward and took another bite of food before placing his meal down on to the table.
"No" he replied simply with a glance to the others. As they pleaded more and more Lonan found himself feeling a glimmer of anger at their hope.
"There is no escape. You'll get everyone killed."
At those words, one of the boys stood up in frustration and stood out of the bench. Lonan knew what might be coming. But he didn't have to take it from these kids, they were not his masters or owners. Sat on the end seat, Lonan brought himself to his feet. For a trill those around assumed a fight was about to break out. But quickly, it turned into more than that. Lonan reached down by his side to grab his working pickaxe and, without any hesitation, swung it. With a bulk of force the pick planted straight through the side of the other slave's skull, the crack of bones filling the air as all those around stood up and backed away. Hearing the screams of pain the slavers came over immediately, seeing Lonan with a blood-covered pickaxe and a boy on the ground with skin and bone shattered and blood pouring from their mouth. Immediately the pickaxe was taken from Lonan who was dragged away.
But one of the men that had been here to view the slaves stopped the slavers from dragging him. He offered a lump sum of money, enough to pay for a new slave to replace both Lonan and the boy he had injured as well as purchasing Lonan. After coming to the right deal, that same night Lonan had been purchased and was being transported away from the place he had been staying, avoiding his punishment for the damage he had done. As they rode in the back of a carriage the man asked Lonan why he had attacked the boy.
"I wanted to" he replied simply, voice hollow as he looked up at the man who bore a wide grin at the words that were said.
Following it, the man trained him for combat for Arcs, before he begun fighting for entertainment in Scalvoris. When Slavery was later abolished by Faith, however, Lonan was kept under the radar. Secretly, he fights for entertainment till this day.
