Chapter 1
2 Ymiden, Arc 720
2 Ymiden, Arc 720
A mage no longer innocent in a place unknown. Outside, night with moons pale against velvet black and stars aplenty. Stars that turn and twist in impossible dance, blown aside by the tragedies and triumphs of those who shake the world beneath their boots. Oceans rise, tides foam to mist, lanterns bleed red and metal glitters like silver ice. He is never alone. Not on the mortal-infested planet of Idalos, not in the recesses of the impossible realms of Emea, nowhere has he found a place of true tranquil solitude. Only approximations of a mere concept. Mocked structures distanced but not separate.
Always connected . . .
Forward time marches, even in paused quiet moments does it ever turn and turn like the stars in their impossible dance. The night will end. The morning shall come anew. The world does not stand still. As it moves, all moves with it. As the arc curves, so too does the trials fall until vanished beyond the horizon of time better forgotten.
The mage runs from such times as he moves from dreamscape to dreamscape. Farther, with each glide through the linings of reality, unnoticed by the dreamers who create the connected web in which he travels. The arc expands, the horizon moves, the past is forsaken.
Drawn past the unseen limits of dream to dream, the mage-known-by-many-names flies like a dragonfly through morning fog. On wings of gossamer fragility, he enters a dream in the spaces between what is visible to the dreamer. Behind the imagery that props up the construction of the subconscious mind, Llyr lands. For a moment's glance informs him that this dream is not like other dreams. A moment's glance and he is caught by the lure of fascination for what he sees, feels, and belives.
A mirror, tall and grand, framed in gold.
Llyr stands in the place where reflections belong. Cloaked from perception by either constructs or dreamer, he steps closer to the mirror's threshold. He sees not just the dreamer, but many constructs. Hardly the first time he had seen a dance ball, or a fancy party, in a dream, yet he'd never seen one with the sort of outfits worn in this particular dreamscape. The dresses were of such magnificent shapes, and the suits so finely tailored. Jewelry gleamed on every man and woman alike, or so it seemed, for Llyr's attention certainly felt lured by this...
...but he noticed shadows to the sides of the long dance hall. Silhouettes of figures, in wait? Watching? He could not be certain, but he noticed them all the same.
Through the mirror, Llyr entered the dream. His attire changes as he does. It conforms his fashion to that of the dream, like any other construct to be seen. He allows his Emean Cloak to fall, to let himself be seen by any who might care to. His wings remain. His halo glows, and yet, it must compete with the sheer brightness of all the gold engraved into the walls and furniture. Intricate designs of luxury unlike most dreams. Designs that spoke of understanding rather than simple imagination.
He walks among the crowd. Past those chatting behind fans about things he cannot understand for the language they speak is nothing he can recognize. He is uncertain it is even a language, or if it is a mere composition of melodic sounds to mimic the speak of humanoids. Is that where the music comes from? Those gossiping and socializing between sips of champagne and sparkling bursts of laughter.
Llyr walks, and he walks with confidence despite his role as intruder to the dream. For he knows how to act as if he were but any other construct. An odd one, perhaps. Sometimes noticed by the dreamer, but never by the various little props that moved about on the strings of subconscious whims. He folds his gloved hands at his lower back, and he appreciates the many rings that adorn the digits. He admires, in another mirror, the piercings and the gold wrapped around his neck. The marble white suit, with thin golden threads through the design, sleek to his tall silhouette. A fortunate painting of the dreamer's preferences, in which he is happy to oblige wearing such things.
Skin tinted in silver moonlight glow, eyes filled to the lash-brim with ice blue light, the mage walks until he comes to stand near the dreamer. He turns to observe the dancers who spin around and around in patterns as elaborate as the architectural intricacies. Llyr's gaze glides upward to follow the lofty ceiling in expectation for a glistening chandelier for how much light gleams off everything, but he is momentarily surprised to see no ceiling at all... but a vast sky of clouds that cross over a starry sky.
Gaze tilted upward, he admires the glitter of this dream. Features softened on the youthful sharp angles, and an unintentional smile creases the corners of his pale lips. He says nothing.
