Name: Shrine of the Arachnid (Sintra Chapel, Underground)

Type of Location: A shrine in an unassuming cavern inland of Immortal’s Tongue

Description: The shrine of Sintra is a necessary evil in Scalvoris. Although it's essentially a lair that rests deep underground, beneath the twisting hollows of an inland cavern, it sees it's fair share of visitors, looking for protection from pests and insects. It's a common place for farmers and those who rely on pest control to visit, as well as the usual rogues, spies, cultists and murderers.

On the surface of Immortal's Tongue, near the Northern Shore of the Island, its entrance can be found at the foot of a great rocky hill. There, worshippers and supplicants alike tend to leave offerings of either carefully woven and embroidered fabrics, or else food for Sintra's children (the spiders). Just inside the entrance, beyond a veil of gossamer is a more labyrinthine passage of natural hollows that branch off from the entrance. The shrine itself is well-hidden, behind a screen of spidersilk and stone trapdoors, often one will need a guide in order to locate the shrine or else Sintra's favor. Many a wilderness guide makes a good living doing just that for the honest folk who have need to pay homage to the mistress of arachnids.

The shrine itself is a humble affair, an eight-candled shrine must be lit, reducing the web woven around it. Depending on how the web is reduced, the cultists will interpret it's meaning for the supplicant. This show of smoke and mirrors, while convincing to the ignorant, is really just an exercise in deception.

Nevertheless, farmers and others in need of pest control, who pay a visit to the shrine in order to attain the favor of Sintra, will often enough find their gardens being protected by arachnids, against the pests who threaten their crops. It’s rumored that more substantial pests can be dealt with, for the right price.

Other Information: Like most leaders and mouthpieces within the Webspinners, Chalice is a charismatic figure, with much in the way of guile but lacking in brute strength. One would even be forgiven for mistaking her for a accidental visitor to the Shrine, as she seems remarkably out of place, with her bright clothing, red hair, and bearing the trappings of a minstrel. She often chats up visitors to the shrine, trying to suss out their purpose without revealing her own position therein. It's rare that she would reveal herself as the resident priestess, but she makes exceptions for other Webspinners and Lethroda when they're away from prying eyes.

She plays the silken strings of her Lyre with expert grace, filling the hall of Sintra with beautiful music, accompanied by her adequate singing voice.

She's not to be underestimated, however, as someone who is adept at setting traps that bear the deadliest of poisons. While she frequently poses as a poor lost soul who has 'accidentally' stumbled onto the shrine, she is, in fact, the ranking Webspinner in Scalvoris.
