Name Korin
Race: Sev'ryn
DoB: 123rd Ashan, 690
Title: Gold Cloaked member of the Order of Adunih
Skills: Animal Husbandry: Competent, Caregiving: Expert, Detection: Competent, Discipline: Competent, Endurance: Competent, Field Craft: Competent, Gardening: Competent, Intimidation: Expert, Medicine: Expert, Psychology: Expert, Research: Competent, Strength: Competent, Teaching: Competent

When tending to a patient, Korin is kind, gentle but firm when needed, and endlessly patient. But that is a side of her that she shows only to her patients. To her coworkers, she is a stern, driven woman who strives for perfection in all things. She demands the best from herself at all times, and she has no respect for anyone who does not do the same. Korin is respected by many of her coworkers, but she is a very hard person to like due to her beliefs.

As a gold cloaked member of the Order, she is happy to teach less experienced members of the Order, but she does so her own way. She firmly believes that treating patients directly is the most important thing that a healer can do. Medical research and making medicines and herbal remedies for the Order are all well and good, but they are for people who are unable to be true healers for some reason. Due to her beliefs, she insists that everyone assigned to her focuses on treating patients directly as she herself does. This does not mean that she will allow healers who are new to their profession to deal with patients. Anyone under her guidance must prove to her that they are skilled enough that they won't make mistakes that could harm their patient and that they have a good bedside manner before she will allow them to treat patients.

Korin is slow to admit that a healer who is studying under her is ready to earn a higher rank. This does not mean that she has the power to stop someone from earning a higher rank, as much as she might wish she could at times. But she will treat her students with very little respect until she feels that they have earned it.

She will highly discourage her students from specializing in any field of medicine that does not involve treating patients directly while they are under her guidance. She makes her feelings about the other branches of medicine plain to her students, and it is very difficult for any student who does choose to study them to gain her respect and approval. If one of her students do choose to study a branch that she does not approve of, she will try to keep them busy enough that they can only study it in their free time. Her methods are extreme, but they are tolerated because they work. The healers that graduate from her instruction are usually very skilled, driven to succeed, and disciplined in their work.

She works in the Earth Quarter Branch of the Order of Adunih.

Hello Seira, thanks for your submission.

My main concern with this entry is that Korin allows and even encourages medics new to specialties to treat patients directly without prior training. Am I reading that right? I would hope that there'd be a lot of prior training involved for any new medics before they got to lay a hand on a single patient. The Order doesn't tolerate the maverick behavior/training of medics who do things 'Their own way', and this one wouldn't likely last very long. Especially if her methods are considered 'Extreme'.

No, she won't let new healers treat patients with little to no training. If anything, her perfectionism causes her to demand more from a healer before letting them near a patient than most would. And I've added a bit to make that more clear. Her extreme views are that things like medical research, herbalism (when it comes to making remedies, not using them, and any field not dealing with patients are...not lesser, exactly. She acknowledges that they are needed and that great good can come of them. But she believes that a real healer treats patients. The other fields in her mind are for people who can't cut it as a "real" healer. And for that reason, she won't allow (well, she can't forbid it - but she will highly discourage from studying any field that doesn't involve treating patients directly, and she won't allow a healer she is mentoring to pursue those fields on the Order's time while she is their mentor). Nor will she point them in the right direction or help them in any way if they insist on studying those fields in their free time.

Korin is slow to admit that a healer who is studying under her is ready to earn a higher rank. She feels that a new healer should spend at least two arcs studying before earning their green hood, and another three before graduating to a blue cloak. But she will not thwart a promising student who manages to impress her with their intelligence and devotion to learning.
Korin is not the arbiter of any cloak's progress through the order. Order Members raise through the same methods as anyone else, by doing work for the order. This doesn't even necessarily have to be as a healer, as the Order admits all types.
She will not allow her students to specialize in any field of medicine that does not involve treating patients directly until they graduate from her teaching. Her methods are extreme, but they are tolerated because they work. The healers that graduate from her instruction are usually very skilled, driven to succeed, and disciplined in their work.
Korin doesn't get to decide how other members of the Order will develop. I think you're really overstating her influence here, when Rharne already has an Order leader. Gennadiya Lyosha. And even the Earth Quarter chapter has a Gray cloak who 'outranks' Korin.

I've made some changes that reflect her lack of influence more.

Posting here because Pigs asked me to as the IC head of the Order.

No, she wouldn't. The Order works with the Institute for Innovation and Faith and Genna worked hard to make sure that there is a clear curriculum.

This belief is well known? So - she has expressed that to Faith? I'm sorry, that makes no sense. Faith would not - not allow such a close-minded and ignorant individual to be treating patients or acting as a mentor. Frankly, she wouldn't allow her in the Order, because the order has standards of behavior and standards of morality. Purposeful and wilful ignorance is just not happening.

And if she did that just once, she'd be given a formal warning by Faith or Genna - and if it happened a second time, she'd be asked to leave.

I'm sorry, but this is just a bully. Faith doesn't tolerate bullies and bigots in the Order. There is no way this woman would be working in the Order with such horrible views.

No. Just absolutely no. The Order of the Adunih is run by a PC, and this branch of it is run by a PC. Neither of whom, in my opinion, will tolerate people who are bigots - for any reason.

I'm sorry to be / sound negative - but if this person was working in the Order when Faith was in the Rharne branch, she'd have been out on her ear. This woman is a bully who wouldn't be in the order. Maybe she should be working somewhere else? I leave the final comment to Genna who is currently there, but this NPC goes against everything Faith has built up for years.

No worries. I can try to come up with a different concept and resubmit them later if/when I do. I can't imagine that there would be any need for other clinics since the Order is there, or that anyone would go to them if there were.
