Celeste was resting, the door being watched over by one of their guards who had previously remained outside, he had given direct instruction to keep a close eye on her. Now he was finally back out among the crowd, ready to finally glean some information from the people there. Gossip and rumours were just as valuable to him as the straight up facts so he kept a close ear to the conversations around him. Bouncing between groups near to the hallway where Celeste had been left in a side room. He was apprehensive to move too far away in case of emergency.

Still he gathered a few short rumours, it seemed people had already noticed Tristan and Valeria's sneaking off together. A rumour he was less amused or happy to hear was one of his Sister's betrothed, it really did seem this Valeria got around. Finally was something he had observed first hand and was of their host and his skyrider friend. They did make a good couple and politically it was a fair move too, Warrick and Venora had a strong history that would not hurt from some more recent renewals.

Seeming to be all Xander could acquire from the trivial talks of the night he stepped away from any groups and continued to look around. It was apparently a popular party, no one appeared unhappy and donations were being continually made, at least by those who could afford it. The suddenly relevant Venoran Lord had managed to create a night to briefly distract from the mess most people saw Venora in at the current time. That in and of itself was impressive.

That was when Xander spotted Lord Oliver Venora, walking among his guests and meeting every now and then with someone in attendance. Perhaps they should talk some more, outside of the group in which they had met earlier that night. It would be much easier to talk freely when not surrounded by other noble ears who were directly listening.

So he began the difficult walk through the people, dodging dancers here and there to finally reach his target. Waiting until he was not engaged Xander stepped forward and cleared his throat. "My Lord, I must congratulate you on your event this evening, it is quite the hit it seems." The Baron stepped closer to engage in the conversation, bridging the large gap that had been between the two men. "Perhaps we can have a drink together?" Although alcohol was off the table for Xander these days, for a multitude of reasons, he would not mind something to quench his thirst.

A smile creased his face as Oliver broke away from the crowd, the man running a clean hand through his hair. From conversation to conversation, Oliver had navigated the political landscape of the evening, dancing between dialogues like a dervish through her routine. And when he stopped spinning, he found himself plied with placations or congratulations, and none more so than Ser Erik Van Dross. The older knight had accompanied Jericho, and had spent the entire evening trying to get Oliver alone to discuss some alliance between his keep and the barony. Though not the baron yet, the older knight had correctly surmised Oliver's future intention to take over Bellesoir in the coming arc, hopefully. Plying him with questions and requests to offer aid of his bannermen in exchange for luxuries, Ser Erik used his large frame to block the smaller man into the corner. Shark-black eyes scanned behind him through the space between his arm and torso, and the smile widened as Oliver looked directly back into the man's face.

"Pardon me, Ser Erik. Write me when I've taken the chair, and we will discuss this." He excused himself, sliding by the man, quick as a fox. Passing behind Charlotte, a manicured hand quickly slipped out and brushed the shape of her ass, running along the curve. She turned her head, startled, but Oliver just grinned as he strode by, winking just as he exited the range of her peripherals. Sliding to the tables laden with good, Oliver plucked a piece of roasted goose from the bone and popped it into his mouth, spying Erik approaching him. Quickly, he turned and darted around the table, putting himself directly in line with Xander Andaris. Nodding to himself, Oliver started to approach the man, but was distracted by the fiery haired young man approaching him from the side. He stopped, turning to intercept the knight as he approached.

"My lord." Jericho greeted, pale eyes fiery. Tilting his head, Oliver regarded the man.

"Trouble, Ser Jericho?" Oliver asked, suddenly interested by the man. Jericho turned and regarded a man, drunkenly swinging his arms about, wine sloshing from the glass, which was impressive considering the minute amount left in the bowl of the glass. Such was the man's forceful gestures. The gentleman, a merchant from the Settlements... Cobb, Oliver thought, had obviously had too much to drink. Regarding him, Oliver sighed. He'd hoped to avoid someone making a scene, but had contingencies in place.

"I see. Offer to take Mister Cobb to one of the guest rooms to sleep it off. Water and a bit of the herbal remedy that Ambre made, as well. You're welcome to ask Gustauv or Lennard to make first contact, but please be there to assist if he refuses. If he becomes violent, eject him." Jericho nodded, and Oliver's black eyes shifted to stone grey. A sigh followed, but as he turned away from Jericho, his intended target was there, greeting him.

As Xander hailed him and closed the gap, he smiled and took the man's hand, shaking it firmly. Nodding at the suggestion of the drink, Oliver indicated towards a room off to the side, the study he often used to work... And that one time to make love to Charlotte.

"Of course, my lord. I've not seen you with a drink all night... By choice, or shall I speak with my staff about attentiveness?" He smiled, guessing it was the former. Bria and Genne were phenomenal at what they did, and Oliver trusted that they'd asked Lord Xander multiple times. Waving a finger at Bria, and indicating something without alcohol, she brought over a decanter of a light pink liquid, inundated with small pockets of air that floated to the surface.

"How about a raspberry sparkling water, my lord? My chef, Jirelle, learned the unique process in Argos... Or was it Ironridge? Lysoria? Somewhere over there," Oliver mused, offering the non-alcoholic drink to Xander. He led him to the room, opening the door and ushering the man in, disappearing for the moment with him. Once inside, Oliver led Xander to one of the overstuff chairs, sitting down opposite him with a glass of whisky. Shark-black eyes surveyed the man, the two sizing each other up in private, away from the distraction of betrothed and would-bes.

"I must thank you for the excuse to excuse myself, my lord." Oliver smiled, leaning back in the chair, relaxing.

Xander accepted the Lord's greeting, returning the firm hold on his host's hand. The Baron shook his head and chuckled, smiling before answering. "No not at all, your serving staff have been most impressive. The truth is I do not drink alcohol not for a few arcs now." Xander shrugged off the statement, trying to avoid any further questions about the motivations for avoiding this certain vice.

"I must confess I have not experienced the wonder's of western drinks before, especially not this particular one." He accepted the glass as it was poured for him, raising it and examining the bubbles that danced through the pink liquid. "How peculiar, what oddities the foreign world can provide to us." Xander took a sip of the liquid sweet and bubbly it was refreshing in the heat of the crowded room. "Refreshing, thank you Lord Venora."

The Baron followed Oliver off into the side room, following over to the chairs and taking the seat opposite him. It was so soft it was almost uncomfortable, at least that was the northern born nobles observation as he sank into the chair. "No need to thank me, it can be tiring greeting the many nobles and rich folk who attend these events I am sure." Xander for one hated to greet people over and over, answering the same questions every few bits.

He watched the older noble over the rim of his glass as he took another sip of the raspberry water. It was unusual for someone to appear so suddenly onto the political playing fields, especially one his age. The Baron found it interesting how he had emerged so grandly from the ashes of Venora's reputation. "I admire what you are doing here." Whether that was a comment on the fundraising or the attempt to salvage some of Venora's former image was unclear, of course it was a mix of the two in reality.

"I must apologise for not having gotten out to Venora to meet you sooner, there have been a lot of unexpected occurrences recently." Xander placed his glass down and gently stroked the creases out of his trousers, eyeing the Venoran closely to gauge his response. This time it was more clear that the Andaris was talking about Zvezdana's role in the Civil war and then even more recently the trial in which Alistair royally screwed himself. Venora had really not been doing well recently.

"Of course also with my position and Celeste's pregnancy I don't get out as much these trials." He smiled glossing over the potential insult to Oliver's house with something far more trivial. "Have you been together long with Lady Warrick?" This was important, a political marriage between Venora and Warrick would strengthen some age old bonds that could be potentially dangerous to Xander if not observed carefully.

Oliver smiled, graciously nodding his head as Xander commended him for what he was doing. Oliver knew that many of the duchies considered Venora at its weakest, and rightly so. The loss of Zvezdana and Theodore were tragic, and Alistair's exile was unfortunately poorly timed. Oliver understood that many of the families, especially those more concerned with the future political landscape of Rynmere, sensed the blood in the water, and Oliver wanted to ensure that they knew the weakness was only temporary. He quickly understood that Xander picked up on that, and was both commenting on that trial specifically, and Oliver's grander goal to strengthen Venora as a house.

"My thanks, Lord Xander. There has been quite the amount of political turmoil in the Kingdom as of late, and it's good to let everyone know that the Duchies are still very much interested in the betterment of that Kingdom. For one and all." Oliver's mouth curled into a small smile, and he took a sip of the whisky. He maintained a widespread demeanor, obviously comfortable in the setting.

"Think nothing of it, my lord. In truth, I've been quite busy myself. Planning this gala, playing catch-up with Bellesoir's finances. I will say, my lord, my mother and father were excellent party-throwers, but Seven help them if they couldn't keep track of the ledgers." He grinned, laughing at his parents' intentional lack of oversight. They had not bankrupted the barony, thankfully, but they hadn't done much for it financially either.

"I know you can sympathize, what with the running of Astedia falling to you so quickly. All goes well there, yes?" Oliver asked, genuinely interested. He truly believed that the duchies had to work together to ensure Rynmere's survival, and though he got the impression that Xander was using this discussion to size him up, Oliver tried to remain as open as he could. Within reason.

"Yes, I heard of Lady Celeste's pregnancy. Congratulations, my lord. I know the proper answer is a male heir, but between us men here, in private, are you hoping for a son or daughter? I wish for a daughter, myself." Of course, it was too early in their relationship for Oliver to bring up the thought of kids, but he'd always imagined himself having a daughter. A smile broke across his face again, one borne of hope and aspiration.

"Of course, the Lady Warrick and I have not been together long enough to discuss such matters yet. Nearly a season now, I suppose? Though, I will say that it happened rather unexpectedly and without being properly addressed, as such matters of the heart often are," he said, carefully constructing the words. If the roles were reversed, Oliver would have been inquiring to know if the joining of their houses would pose a threat later, and so too he assumed Xander was doing the same.

"But I can assure you, the passion and longevity are there. Fates willing, we will marry." Oliver said, realizing then that he truly meant it. It wasn't just a political alliance, but an alliance of their beings. Warmth spread through him.

"I suppose, my lord, we should address the glaring issue in the room. You were present, yes, during Alistair's trial? I wish for you to know that not all Venoras subscribe to such radical and illegal measures to affect change. Some of us may share the same ideologies, but with different methods. After all, you attract more flies with honey, yes?" But then again, they also flocked to shit.

Xander paid close attention to his host, noting his comfort in the place. This was obviously his territory and he would expect no different. The words of the Lord were certainly a pleasant surprise, of course Xander would have to trust the man was being sincere. "Of course, to not reassure the people would be foolish." Xander ran his finger over the cool glass in his hand, considering the events that had transpired and thrown Rynmere off centre. "The people deserve leaders who truly care."

The Baron mirrored the Venora chuckling himself at the comment about ledgers, the truth hitting home when he thought of his own parents. "Some people are more suited to positions of power than others. Handling money is a struggle to perhaps most of our class." Half his lips raised into a haphazard smile as he continued to run his hands over the fabric on his thighs. "As for Astedia, well the Barony is doing just fine, I often work more on the security than the economical side but I of course play a part in all of it. Perhaps you would enjoy a visit sometime, the coastline there is beautiful and the city of Drakengard is a sight to see." The wolf made the offer in hopes of maybe bringing another Venora on side after losing one of his previous powerful allies in the Duchy.

"Honestly I have not considered it much, the prospect of having a child of my own is great enough to make me happy. There is also our adopted daughter too, so I have begun to experience what it is like having a small girl around the house." He smiled his eyes showing the genuine amusement and happiness of having a child in your life. They were most curious and amusing, he had found he enjoyed the youthful presence. "I am a lucky man, I have known that since the day I met Celeste and a child on the way is the icing on top of the a perfect cake." There were issues of course but that was not to be discussed here with him.

"Well it is heart warming to hear of the love in your relationship, not so many are lucky enough to find themselves with a true caring companion. I wish you all the best with the lovely Lady Warrick, give her my best with her work too and I hope to see her flying her volareon soon enough." He took another sip of the drink, the gas bubbling on his tongue was an unusual feeling. He wondered how the two had met but was sure that would be a story longer than they had time for, especially with more pressing matters that Oliver soon moved to address.

Xander was at the trial and the Lord was right when it came to Alistair's methods, they had been unwise to say the least. "Of course, I knew Alistair quite well and yet even I could not have predicted what occurred that trial." Xander sighed and shook his head, thinking of the idiotic mistakes the man had made. "The man made a fool of himself and he tainted the name of your house, I can only imagine how difficult it is to cleanse the Duchy of his mistakes. Still, I trust that you are not the same as is evident from this trial, not once did he attempt something like this.""

Xander leaned forward then, showing interest in what they discussed. "As for ideologies, well, I can not speak for sure of what Alistair believed in as his actions at the trial contradict with much of what he had once told me." Xander shrugged slightly, as if accepting that he had made a small mistake in completely trusting the fallen man. "The truth is that Rynmere needs stability again, how it reaches that point is for those men and women intelligent enough to influence it to decide."

Xander raised an eyebrow and looked to his host with clear curiosity in his eyes. "What kind of a man are you Lord Venora?" A slight smile broke onto his lips but was quickly subdued as Xander awaited the answer.
