True forgiveness does not keep score. We do not count off details that indict, against those that vindicate, in order to arrive at a verdict. There is only one constant in all cases. There must be remorse in the heart of the one who would be forgiven.

What complicates things is the outside influences of others' judgment, and their insistence on what cost of atonement must be paid.
