Crimson Arena

Image
The Crimson Arena is found among the buildings to the east of the city. It is an imposing building to most outsiders. To those who lived within Yaralon, the true beauty that went on within was far more beautiful than what outsiders see. Though duels are held on the streets of the city almost every day, that does not compare to the amount of bloodshed within Crimson Arena. Early on the structure was used to try and enforce laws in the city. After 109 the council decided to use the Arena as a place for fighters to train and duel instead of using the streets.

After making the decision, remodeling and staff interviews began to ensue. There were ten instructors hired on, a booking lady, several chefs, and of course spotters to watch the battles. Spotters are the enforcers of the arena. They make sure all rules are followed and that there is no unauthorized death during battles. Rooms off the side of the main battle arena were made into staff quarters and offices for the instructors to rest in between teachings. Once all the teachers were brought in, they sat down and decided the types of battles that could be watched. Battle royals, viewers choice, no weapons, handicap matches, and same weapons. There are also tournaments held towards the middle of each season.

There are several types of battles held at the arena. Same Weapon, Battle Royale, Instructor’s Challenge, Viewer’s Choice, No Weapons, and Death Match; at least one of these battles is held once a week. Everyone is invited to participate no matter the skill level. Most that are regulars have been trained by the instructors for at least one full season, before trying their hand at the battle.

Same Weapon is exactly what anyone could guess would be the style. Participants are allowed only one weapon the entire battle. All weapon racks are removed from the field and locked away in the side rooms by the spotters. Participants are expected to tell the spotters what weapon will be used during the fight. As participants prepare to enter, they are checked for any extra weapons besides what they have claimed.

Battle Royal is where all signed up participants fight each other at the same time. Two members will start out battling in the middle, as time passes on more participants are sent into the arena until all have entered. Spotters stand inside the ring and watch removing any who can no longer fight in the match. As with all the other matches, the fighting does not stop until there is one victor left.

Instructors Challenge is where any trainee can fight an instructor. These fights are normally to test skills in front of a crowd. However when a rival refuses to fight, the challenger can call out the instructor and fight him/her instead.

Viewer’s Choice is where the people in the audience are allowed to vote on what kind of fight is competed that night. The options are weapons(type of weapon), no weapons, and how many fighters will participate. Once the decision is made, the spotters will remove weapons or give the designate weapons to fighters before allowing them to enter the ring.

No Weapons is a match where no weapon is allowed other than the fighter's bare hands. Spotters remove all but the main weapon from the participants before allowing them to enter. Once the match begins, the spotters will stand at the exits and watch for any kind of cheating. Should a participant disobey the only rule of the match

Re: Crimson Arena

To those who lived within Yaralon, the true horror that went on within was far darker than just the stains left on the outside
~~1: I doubt Yari would consider this a "true horror" or any type of horror. They are an especially violent/combat skill based people so they'd really appreciate it, even if it is rather gory/violent.

Early on the structure was used to try and enforce laws in the city. The public executions were the main thing witnessed for the first several seasons of the opening. After some time, the leaders of the city decided the building would be better used as a place for citizens to vent their anger.
~~Try to match this info to the following. Just make it thematically fit as best you can to that blurb (which was in an obscure place, so thanks, I'll update the info into History too to make it more accessible.)

"Ever since Isandra Haze's first duel with Raskalarn at Korlasir, the trial by combat has been a romanticized part of Yari culture. It wasn't until 109, after the failed first attempt at establishing a council of Company Leaders, that it became a true cornerstone. The system of dueling instead of legislation and laws was made to enforce the belief that only the best of the best, in all aspects of life, deserve to be in Yaralon. And by agreeing to this new tradition, it helped to reduce blood feuds and mass death, that would only further harm the city."

There were ten instructors hired on, a booking lady, several chefs, and of course spotters to watch the battles.
~~Elaborate on what Spotters are.

Even during the battle, the participants cannot wield their opponents’ weapon either during the match.
~~This feels a bit too restricting. I'd suggest removing this.

No Weapons is a match where no weapon is allowed other than the fighter's bare hands. In order to make sure no cheating is possible, the spotters remove all weapons from the participants possession. The weapon racks are also removed from the ring so that there is nothing to use when they enter.
~~This is a strange thing in Yari culture. They would respect a no weapons allowed combat if that was what was agreed upon, however, they would never, ever disarm/let another have their weapon. That's literally how people get married against their will. They can keep their weapon on their person and simply not use it. Using it would just receive punishment from the crowd or instructors or the opponent.

Death Match is a last resort battle. One of the rarest battles, seen in the arena. It is used when two people cannot come to terms on an argument or when one of the few laws in Yaralon are broken.
The "one of the few laws" bit needs removed. There are none. However, I'd like to see this elaborated on, as to why 2 Yari might agree to do their Death Duel here as opposed to in the street. I can certainly see them doing it, I'd just like to see more as to why.

All in all, this is well done, just missing some of the finer points of the Yari culture, which you'll learn the longer you're here. It's a very... different culture to most, so takes time to learn the intricacies. I would like to see some information on how PCs can get jobs here (either as the teachers or if they can sell food as vendors, etc) as well as a little bit of info on what is available to the crowd, in terms of seating, amenities (if any), etc.
