Rebirth Cycle, 719th Arc
What Went On?
Cylus
| 1st | The Rebirth Cycle and Cylus begins. |
| 2nd | To mark the Two Year Anniversary of the opening of the Scalvoris Campus, a huge delegation of Videnese academics (professors, researchers and students alike, all head through the Portals to Scalvoris for a celebration. |
| 4th | Anagénnisi - The celebration of Treid allowing the moons to light up Viden, as the citizens of the ice fortress excitedly wait for the sun to return. They spend the first in silent reverence for the incapacitated lover of Yvithia, followed by parties and excitement for days following. |
| 5-9th | Anagénnisi - The celebration of Treid allowing the moons to light up Viden, as the citizens of the ice fortress excitedly wait for the sun to return. For the next 4 days, the city lights bonfires in honour of the Immortal of Moons. |
| 16th | Most land hunting halts until the end of the season, to allow the herds to replenish their numbers with the birth of foals. Attention turns to fishing, where schools of fish have had all of Zi'da and Cylus to grow without fear of fishing nets. |
| 17th | The Rangers leave the city on their first hunt of the Arc as the weather begins to clear slightly. It is later than usual and everyone waits their return excitedly. Meat is sold at an extortionate price, and most citizens are only able to afford the fish, grain and wheat which is so readily available. |
| 24th | With the initial thawing of the Bay of Synnefa, the first trade of the new Arc arrives in the city, carrying non-perishables and the much-needed salt to grit the roads of the city. There aren't many ships that come into port, but the ones that do carry cured and preserved meats and fish. This limited produce saves the city from utter rioting, now that the many weddings are over and the citizens have nothing to distract them from the distinct lack of flavoursome foods. |
| 25th | The Tienite Reavers head out into the harsh blizzard in oder to maintain the delicate structure of the city, which has been somewhat compromised by the consistent attacks from the blizzard. |
| 28th | The Baths close for three trials in order to have their 'spring clean' the facility, due to overuse and potential damage from students of the Academy. Outrage is rife throughout the city, particularly by the more affluent members. |
| 30th | Cylus ends. |
Ashan
| 1st | Ashan begins. |
| 6th | The Springs end up being closed for longer than expected and only open on the 6th trial of Ashan. Upon reopening, the Hot Springs decide to limit the amount of individuals allowed to enter the springs on any given day. Priority is given to aristocracy and artisanal castes. |
| 12th | Kryoma When Spring returns, and Ziell returns to the Northern Region, passing though Viden around the 12th day of Ashan, the citizens of the city leave their homes and venture out into the freezing streets to welcome him home. For this day, which can vary each arc, depending on the Immortal’s movements, all are there to congratulate Ziell on a successful winter season for the rest of Idalos, and to thank him for keeping them humble and reminding them of the hardships of living. It is a relatively subdued festival, with far less exuberance than those for Xiur and Yvithia, but it suits the Immortal of Peace and Winter well. |
| 39th | The troupes of Players who had remained in the city throughout the Cold Cycle finally prepare to leave, much to the inevitable disappointment of the citizens. The final show of the largest troupe is played on this evening and, to everyone's delight, entry is entirely free! |
| 51st | Earlier than usual, the Bay of Synnefa thaws enough to allow in its usual steal of boats, coming in with shipments of goods after the harsh winter. The Salt Stores are restocked and all essentials are brought into the city. |
| 64th | The warmest day of the arc so far sees temperatures rise about zero at the peak of the day, though it plummets soon after and will remain there until a steady rise ten days later. |
| 72nd | More trade is brought into the city and prices return to normal. |
| 90th | A graduation ceremony is held for the youth who have completed their compulsory education. Records show a staggering number of graduates, indicating Viden's growing population. |
| 98th | The harsh turn of the weather sees increased hospitalisations of people due to exposure related injuries. The Infirmary becomes overwhelmed as patients clamour for attention from their injuries. Non-citizens find themselves paying for even the simplest of treatments. |
| 101st | With the weather still multiple degrees below freezing, some arriving students destined for the Academy have come unprepared. Prices in Madam Teviot's shop for furs skyrockets: customers can now expect to pay 2.5 times more than they would have otherwise. |
| 115th | As the days grow slightly longer and weather, the Rangers start up their excursions again. Trips to Lake Verity, the most optimal place to see the Viridescent lights, resume, though prices are hiked up to account for the added danger and need for additional Rangers to support excursions. |
| 123rd | Ashan and the Rebirth Cycle ends. |
Weather To Expect
The beginning of the Rebirth Cycle means little for the Videnese peoples in terms of weather - the temperatures are just as bitterly cold as they had been the season before, with temperatures falling as low as -40 degrees celsius and rising to a maximum of -15 degrees. For citizens, this is unusual, but any new visitors find the city bitterly cold, and are exponentially grateful for the laws which require every room to be furnished with a burner of some variety. As with most of the world of Idalos, the sun is not seen for the entire 30 days, as it was not for the latter part of Zi'da. Constant darkness surrounds the city, and the only natural light sources come from Treid's Moons, or from the eery Viridescent Lights.
The first few weeks of Ashan are rigidly cold, and this is most obviously felt in Viden. Though the sun finally makes its appearance from Cylus, Viden remains consistently cold. Ashan is mainly known for it's spring weather, gentle breezes, and the slow return of the sun bringing some warmth to the cold city. Compared to the inhospitable weather of Zi'da and Cylus, Ashan is relatively moderate. It is even possible for snow and hail to become sleet towards the end of the season. However the front of warm air from the south brings its own dangers: storms are commonplace in Ashan, and will continue until the bitterly cold weather returns in the Cold Cycle.
