Ether Twilight

Name: Ether Twilight
Image
Quick Facts: Extremely hard to get flower with multiple color variations. Drugs created from the seeds help increase the power of domain magic but can have serious repercussions.
Height: Reaches a maximum height of about 6 inches.
Width: Each flower is about 1 inch wide.
Length: N/A
Fruit: N/A
Poison: Not toxic, but may inhibit domain magic
Native to: Only native to Maiden's Refuge. North swamps near deep water.
Locations: Yaralon, Maiden's Refuge

Appearance: Ether's Twilight is a small plant with grass like leaves that gets about 6 inches tall. The bud, always purple in color, appears from the ground during Zi'da but remains closed until the sun disappears. Only then, it will bloom and reveal the colors within. While the colors inside will vary from flower to flower, indicating which domain magic they affect, there is always a white line separating both colors. The color combinations are as follows (from outer to center): Aberration is purple and red. Abrogation is light blue and white. Attunement is white and grey. Becoming is black and white. Defiance is green and red. Dustforge is light blue and red. Empathy is brown and black. Graft is white and brown. Hone is blue and light blue. Mirage is yellow and brown. Necromancy is green and black. Pact is red and black. Rupturing is orange and blue. Schism is yellow and grey. Sovereign is red and white. Transmutation is brown and red.

Habitat: It's only know to exist in the Maiden's Refuge swamp, particularly in the North swamps. It is found near deep water where amphibian and aquatic creatures could lay in ambush. This plants will very rarely appear through out the swamp, usually with a single flower. There are cases of up to three flowers in close proximity, but this is a very unusual sight to see. No more than three flowers will appear close to each other.

Lifespan and Development: Ether Twilight seeds drop from the flowers right before the sun surfaces during Ashan. When this happens, the previous flower immediately withers and dies, providing sustenance for the next generation. Only three seeds appear from one flower and they immediately burrow in to the ground, but this does not mean that three flowers will sprout, for the seeds can use each other for sustenance, meaning that some may die. With the start of Zi'da, they reappear from the ground and sprout a bud that only opens once the sun disappears again during Cylus. Once the sun is about to return, the cycle is born anew. Any attempt at forcing the bud open, cutting the flower, or removing the seeds from the ground will immediately wither the flower and putrefy the seeds, rending them useless. The only exception is to remove the seeds or cut the flower during the sunless days of Cylus when the flower is fully bloomed. Any contact with sunlight or moonlight after removing the flower will cause the flower to wither and the seeds to putrefy. Each time the cycle of death and rebirth happens, the flower may change their color. What type of flower appears is purely based on luck.

Uses: Magic increasing drugs and magic inhibiting poison.

Temperament:

Abilities: The seeds can be grounded in to a dust to create a drug that temporarily increases the power of a specific domain magic when inhaled. The petals themselves can be combined with the seeds and grounded to instead create a poison that inhibits the use of that specific domain magic. Each color affects a specific domain magic as explained above.

Re: Ether Twilight

Hello! I am your friendly neighborhood developer Prongs! I figured I would provide you with some feedback for your on your flora submission, the Ether Twilight. I remember you speaking of the poison/potion you were looking to create with this plant. Though I believe most of what will need to take place on this approval is way above my paygrade, I will offer feedback as I can.

  • Location:Having looked over the Maiden's Refuge Lore, it seems the swamp is broken into three someone distinct areas. Does the Ether Twilight exist in all three? Or just one? Or Two?

  • Access: You say that the flower is hard to get. Is this only due to the fact that it is in a dangerous swamp and the specific requirements to harvest the flower/seeds? Does a certain creature feed on this flower that is dangerous to the average individual? Does it only grow on the edges of deep water? etc?

  • Rarity: How rare is this flower within the wild? How rare are each individual colors?

I like the idea of this flower and the poison/potion that comes with it. I believe it could be a good addition to the lore. The idea of needing a specific coloring of the flower to effect a specific magic is also very good. Keep up the good work!

Re: Ether Twilight

Since the concept behind this is alittle out of my comfort zone at this point in my life as a Prophet. I will direct this toward some Senior Staff for their blessing :)

Re: Ether Twilight

Just an update, I brought it up to the full staff (including the Senior Staff) for their thought. So to the points that have been brought up so far:
  • There should be a note at the bottom of the write up that some of the magic write up are in development. As this write up mentions schism and pact, along with the other unfinished magics.
  • You should go into more detail on how exactly it increases the power of domain magic.

Keep up the good work!

Re: Ether Twilight

Hey there,

I don't know if this was brought to MY attention, specifically.
If it was, I either missed it or have forgotten.

But not being the "magic' guy, other than Abrogation, I am not necessarily the one most needing to say okay.
However, I love this sort of idea, even though they are always hard to get off the ground, due to lore fluctuations.

But I know you play in Etzos, so if you have a specific thread idea that would be enabled and enhanced by Iashiri's use of this, Pm me about it.

I can probably find a way, even before this could ever be fully approved.
I have a drug from long ago, when I first started here, before the site actually launched, that has that two-sided, effect on magic.

it is called "Brimstone" and has a dual use.
This is a drug that has either offensive or defensive applications. On occasions, the lava flows from the "Heart of the World" carry a streak of oddly green color. It is nearly impossible to harvest this while in magma form, but careful observation can mark the spot for later retrieval. Upon cooling, this streak loses its color, making it very difficult to differentiate from normal magma without having been marked somehow.

Once located though, the key mineral can be easily detected by its chalky texture. When then blended with the saliva of the Acid Crocodile, and subjected to sufficient centrifugal force, the dissolved mineral will separate into two layers. The thinner layer will give moderate protection against mental magics like Empathy or Illusionism. The thicker fluid will instead give a practitioner of these magics a boost of power to their spells. This offense-based, second version is said to be more addictive than the defensive form. But most think this is simply due to the pleasure of feeling powerful. But for whatever reason, many practitioners experience a complete failure of their magic abilities for many trials after only a few trials' continued use.
there was additional small paragraph about prices, but that's been changed now.

I don't know if a mental Magic was what you might have planned to use, but my BEING the "Alchemy" guy, i would say there would probably be ways to "adjust" this drug to encompass other magics as well.

You will need to PM me your plans though for approval.
