There was most certainly something strange going on, fairies opening up their realm to the public and a glowing green portal erupting purple flames down on the city were sure not common occurrences, at least Rabu hoped they weren’t. As thrilling as they were, Rabu hoped that that there would be no more magical purple flames or anything even a tenth as dreadful. Of course you can’t always get what you want and Rabu had a haunting feeling things would only get worse.
The morning chill was retreating to make way for the warmth of Ashan, the month of spirits. It was one of Rabu’s favourite times of the year, the plants seemed more vibrant and the animals more jovial. Rabu was in the back of his donkey drawn cart organizing his medicine reserves that had been jostled about as his cart traveled over rough terrain. The glass bottles were made of different coloured glass that made a rainbow, Green was for antibiotics, Blue for rubbing alcohol, Purple for poisons, Red for skin care, Orange for herbal teas and yellow for Alchemical materials. He had almost gotten his rainbow perfectly aligned when GoGo pushed the cart over another rock and the potions were flung out of order once more.
“Oh Fidddle sticks!” Rabu cursed in frustration. He wished now that he had some kind of cabinet for them but he would need a bit more money. He had attempted to make one before but with his lacklustre skills and less than desirable materials the end result left much to be desired.
“Argh enough of this…” Rabu turned to his passenger and husband Kisaik who’d been riding in the back. “Have you done your knights training for today?” He asked as softly as his frustration would allow. “I could help you if you wish.” Rabu had no idea how he would do this but wanted to be a supportive spouse.

One of Rabu's Mortal Born abilities involves emean creatures called Dooglewogs doing pranks and causing misfortune for the Rabu. I roll a dice every time Rabu uses his other powers and whatever it lands on will happen in the thread he's in. If a Grader or Mod wishes to add a misfortune as a reward that would be wonderful but please be sure that it's only temporary and isn't too disruptive or disturbing (I'm mostly going with light and silly) look on my character sheet for examples.
Kisaik was in the back of Rabu's wagon, sitting down and waiting patiently for them to arrive at their destination. Slate was nearby as well, never one to leave his master's side. Sometimes Kisaik wondered if he should take on a squire of some sort. You know, someone to hold his weapons and clean his armor. Knights were very important people afterall, and the good work of questing for righteousness required him to leave those tasks to those who were less capable of greatness.
Kisaik thought twice on his sense of what was great, and what made a knight. He could sense the irritation of his Husband as he asked him about his training. He wondered if this was borne from a sudden rise in pride in Kisaik. It was true, he was proud to be a treeknight, whatever that meant. But he hoped he wasn't letting it get to his head. "Oh yes, husband! I've been training very hard with a friend I met at the arena!"
"But today isn't a day for riding training, or weapons training. I wanted to work on a knight's manners for today. Etiquette is a very important part of a knight's arsenal. To disarm his foe bloodlessly with courteous words is the height of chivalry! I must learn this skill if I'm to become truly great!" He smiled at his husband, his head sticking out of the opening at the top of his helm, which was fused to the cuirass. His neck stretched when he wasn't expecting battle, and thus forgoing the protection of his cuirass and helm.
"So, in the spirit of that, I wanted to ask you Rabu..." He said very seriously, "How art thou! Isn't it a wonderful day and season, to be out wagoning!" Perhaps that wasn't the proper greeting, but practice made perfect.
"You're looking especially fresh today!" He wondered if fresh was the right word, to use for other tunawa. Humans had their words for what made for another attractive human. But Kisaik hadn't lived with his parents for very long, and was at a loss for flirtation.
Not that he was trying to seduce his own husband, of course not! But he did want to make him feel less irritated and happier. "You're looking especially cute today as well!"
“You know just what to say,” Rabu’s cheeks began to glow softly at his husband’s words and he smiled warmly back at him. “I think you’re already a natural at chivalry but I would love to help you practice.”
He paused for a moment and scratched his chin. “I suppose preforming good deeds is the best way to become more virtuous..” Rabu took a moment to scan the area for any one in need. He spotted a grey haired woman who seemed to be struggling to remove a boulder from her garden but before Rabu could point her out, the muscles in the woman’s arms tensed and she hoisted the boulder above her head and threw it about a foot threw the air. The women clearly didn’t need any help and the other Yari in the area were much the same.
“Maybe we can act one out for now,” Rabu beamed with excitement at the idea, it took him back to his days as a sprout. “I’ll be the poor soul in desperate need of assistance and you can help me with my problem.”
Rabu took a breath, closed his eyes and shook about to keep limber as he tried to invoke his character.
“I’m in desperate need of hug!” he cried using exaggerated and over the top gestures. “It has been ages since I have had one and I’m afraid I will wast away without one.” He gave a quick glance to Kisaik and tried his best to maintain a strait face but was his face betrayed him. “If only a knight were here to aid me in my time of great need.”

Meanwhile in the sky, a slight crack began to form. It appeared like a thin black wispy cloud that grew like a creeping vine along the light blue atmosphere. It spread out like cracks in glass threatening to burst open at any moment.

Kisaik was glad that his words seemed to have made Rabu happy. Life in Yaralon wasn’t all peaches and honey, so it was good to enjoy those small moments of happiness in between the fighting and getting tunawanapped by children or birds. They’d only met a season prior, in Mistress Gwenum’s apothecary, but in that time became fast friends, and even got engaged to marry. Of course that had been somewhat of a happy accident, one that Kisaik was glad for. Sometimes he wondered if Rabu felt the same about their accidental engagement, and if his heart would roam. It was moments like this that dispelled that notion entirely. It didn’t bear dwelling on.
The knight lit up in his face as Rabu put on the most over-the-top performance in a request for a hug. He almost wanted to laugh, but put on his serious face in order to spare Rabu’s feelings, in case he was being entirely serious. He straightened his back, and clanked into Rabu’s vicinity. ”Dost thou need a hug, young sire? I’ve heard tell of your need from a kingdom far away and sallied forth to find that young tunawa in need of a hug! Is it you, by chance?”
Kisaik waited for him to confirm or deny his need for a hug, as it wouldn’t do at all to presume this was the lad that needed a hug so desperately. Even though he’d just said so only moments before within earshot. Besides, perhaps Rabu was looking for a specific kind of hug. There were many categories, afterall.
”Wait…” Kisaik said, stopping their game, ”Did you see that?!”
A slight crack began to appear in the sky, spreading out further and further. Kisaik didn’t like the look of this, and grabbed his shield and crosse in case something popped out of that infernal opening.
“It was me oh kind and courageous knight, It was I who was in need of a hug so desperately!” Rabu continued to make exaggerated gestures and facial expressions while trying his best to hold back the giggles. He knelt down on one knee to accept a hug from Kisaik as Rabu was nearly twice his size. He outstretched his arms and let kisaik come to him, if he did Rabu would give the other Tunawa a firm but gentle squeeze. He closed his eyes and smiled as he relished in the warmth and natural healing that hugs brought. If Rabu could’ve he would have kept the Hug going as long as possible but something was bothering Kisaik.
“See What?” Rabu frowned in concern as he broke the embrace. He looked in the direction that brought his husband to be alarm and gasped at what he saw. The sky was cracking before his eyes just as it had done in Cylus when it spewed odd coloured flames and water. Like before the cracks began to light the sky with an eerie green light before an earth shaking bang erupted for all to hear.
Rabu ran for shelter under his cart and urged Kisaik to do the same. They didn’t have to wait long before screams and crashing could be heard in the distance. Something shot into the ground a few feet away, it stirred up a great deal of dust in its wake so Rabu couldn’t make out what it was. As far as Rabu could tell no one was injured but there was strange noises and movements coming from were the unknown object had landed. When the dust settled, Rabu could see a twisted corruption of one of Moseke’s creations. A body made of twisted puss coloured vines coiled around a crimson flower covered in jagged teeth. From the centre of the flower sprouted a long tongue that looked like a slimy brown leech.
The old women who had thrown a rock with ease was near the plant. Despite the nearby threat, she wasn’t fighting or running, just standing in place like a statue. The monster plant hobbled closer and closer to her and Rabu was certain it’s intentions weren’t pure.

”Ah! I see it was you that needed the hug. Hmm, a most troubling dilemma. Is there one with whomst you wish to hug most of all, or will anyone do? Knights give the best hugs, afterall!” Kisaik took this exercise very seriously, as perhaps the person Rabu was pretending to be had only one person in particular they might want a hug from.
When Rabu’s arms spread for a hug, Kisaik hobbled over toward him, and gave him a good squeeze with his lengthy arms. He could’ve stayed there for trials on end, but nothing lasted forever, and hugs unfortunately least of all. Still, he felt the warmth of the hug upon him as he gathered up his courage, in anticipation of facing that demon seed.
Will o’ Wit was lying next to his armor on it’s holding rack. He didn’t have time to don his armor, but just enough to grab Will o’ Wit, and give chase toward the demon seed.
As Slate noted the movement of his knight, he went ahead to the front of the wagon, allowing Kisaik to mount him. Kisaik gave one last wave to Rabu, dropping a favor in the form of a spider-silk hanky for his betrothed.
”I will be back in but a moment, time to test this Will o’ Wit!” So saying, he gave charge toward that demon seed in the distance.
Slate ran steadily over the muddy streets of Yaralon, toward that demonic plant. All the while, Kisaik calmly held his sword in one hand while the reins of Slate were held in another.
The chilvalrous behavior he’d shown toward Rabu fortified his courage as he approached the large tentacled plant. It was far larger than he thought.
Nevertheless, he kept his resolve as they charged against it, making to cut off its approach to the woman that’d thrown the rock. At the last moment, Kisaik and Slate leapt into the air. Kisaik made a draw cut with his blade against one of the tentacles, and with ease it sliced through the vine.
For a moment afterward, as they landed on the ground once more, Kisaik wheeled his steed around. He looked at his sword in wonderment. It was so sharp! Had it really cut that tentacle in two?
Little did he notice in his reverie as several more tentacles crawled across the ground behind him, and were seemingly intent snatching Kisaik off of Slate.
“I was talking about you silly.” Rabu smiled to himself as he continued to ease himself into the best hug that ever existed. He closed his eyes and nuzzled his head against the smaller male Tunawa. The lichen of Kisaik’s scalp was soft against the smooth bark of Rabu’s chin, it was heavenly. It however made the following moments hurt even more.
Instead of following Rabu to sanctuary under the cart, he instead mounted his feline steed with his sword in hand. With a gentle toss of fabric, Kisaik was off to face the beast alone. Rabu’s eyes widened in shock and disbelief as he watched his beloved gallop away on his tiny cat with a sword that looked way to big for him to be carrying. “Wha…No come back!” Rabu called after but it was too late his rash fiancée was ready to get crushed by a much larger foe.
“Oh squirrel tails!” Rabu cursed to the sky with a dramatic stomp to the ground in frustration. He saw no other choice but to charge after his reckless friend and save him from him self. He ran on his short little legs towards the danger, hoping against hope that he wouldn’t be too late while also not having the faintest idea how he would even help once he got there.
Kisaik was doing surprisingly well cutting at the creatures hungry vines, for a tiny tunawa with a little weapon. Then the tiny knight did the unthinkable and stoped mid battle to marvel at his own sword, almost completely forgetting the plant creature that he was in a fight with.
“Kisaik!” Rabu screamed out “Behind you!”
The tentacles raised up and were moments away from lashing at his beloved. Rabu’s heart sank in his chest and he couldn’t breath for a moment as he watched in horror. Fear filled Rabu and he unleashed his mortal born power to run with astonishing speed. While doing so a raincloud formed and frogs began to rain from it in droves as rabu ran filling the area with tons of amphibians. The vines paused and then zeroed in on the speedy Rabu and his growing army of sky frogs. .

Kisaik marveled for just a moment more, before resuming his battle against the great plant creature. Suddenly, as was wont to happen during Rabu and Kisaik’s misadventures, strange things began happening. First, it began raining frogs. Now that would’ve been odd enough, but with Rabu as a constant companion, Kisaik had seen stranger things. But then, something remarkable. Rabu began running, fast. Really fast. Almost too fast to see where he was at any point in his approach.
Then, came the cry, ”Kisaik! Behind you!” The knight then jumped straight into the air, his little twig legs bending at the knee bark and springing upward into the air. He must’ve jumped about four feet. As he did so, things seemed to move in slow motion. The plant’s tentacles could be seen to miss their attack against Kisaik, which’d been coming from behind as Rabu warned.
Then, once the excitement wore off midjump, Kisaik began falling again. With his arms flailing, he looked for anything to grab purchase to, swinging his arms this way and that. Thus his arms did extend enough to bump into one of Rabu’s ears, which he quickly grabbed onto for dear life.
Thus Kisaik was dragged along like a chariot racer on fire. His unnaturally long arm trailing behind Rabu as the young tunawa sprinted through the streets at blinding speed. Kisaik wanted to ask so many questions, and wanted the answers sooner rather than later. But that would have to wait. The wind from Rabu’s running was rushing past his face, and he didn’t think his voice could even keep pace with such speed.
Meanwhile, behind them, the plant had gorged itself on sky frogs, and long since lost interest in the denizens of Yaralon. Thus, eventually it crept back into it’s fracture, unsatisfied with the fare provided today.
Gogo made its lonely way back to Kisaik’s burrow, dragging the wagon behind it.

Cute, all I can say really. The fact Rabu color coats things the way he does, how both of them want to help each other. How Kisaik is willing to spring forward to stop a foul beast. Rabu's emotional moment when Kisaik does a foolish thing, and looks at the sword. The frogs that rained down feeding the beast, thus saving the day. It all came together in a nice chaotically cute bow.
