“I think you are trouble.”
Despite his terrible line, the Naer laughed openly, the sound ringing lightly in the air between them. The man was confident and well aware of his charms – perhaps more than a little bit cocky. Liarra could never decide whether she liked or hated that sort of men. Brushing away the dark strand of her hair, she raised a perfectly arched eyebrow. “That the best you can do?”
A knight who would let a thief with little punishment? She certainly believed that he would be considered trouble by his superiors. “What can I say? Pickpocketing is a fun pastime of mine,” Liarra claimed with an innocent shrug, like it was the most ordinary thing a young woman could do.
“Oh, so you are a knight as well as a doctor? What a talented soul! ” Liarra teased to hide the wince as she lifted her foot. Hiding her weaknesses was just one of the habits she couldn’t shake off no matter what – especially in front of strangers. Stumbling on one leg, she grabbed the knight’s shoulder to steady herself. As he eyed her ankle, the young woman took the time to study him. With his unkempt hair and roguish, he was certainly unlike the other city guards – knights – she had seen so far. When he asked for her name, Liarra smirked. “You first.”
“I am fine, honestly. I have been worse.” A twisted ankle was nothing to sword cuts and a fist to the face. Liarra wondered if the knight kneeling before her had been in an actual fight. It should be interesting what the knights of Rynmere could do – just to find out how much she could get away with if the time came.
She let her eyes wander for a moment, looking at the people who seemed to have taken interest at them. Not that she could blame. Even Liarra would have never seen the sudden turn of events. The faster they could get somewhere less open, the sooner she could get what she wanted. “Maybe we should leave. What would people say for a chivalrous knight like you fraternizing with a criminal?”
